INTRODUCTION
In an organisation various activities as well as functions are conducted by the
management in order to run business efficiently. To perform all organisational activities in
specific manner, all functions are divided in particular areas that are known as the functional
areas of organisation such as operations, human resource, marketing and finance. Business
divides its all activities in different areas that determine their own goals and objectives that are
fulfilled by the relative employees. Efficient and suitable employees are appointed to each
functional areas who are able to perform all activities in specific manner with having relative
powers and responsibilities. Accomplishment of each functional area objectives facilitates the
business to attain overall goals and objectives. In this report John purchased the organisation
which is named as IOM Electronics Limited that is local regional business in United kingdom.
200 employees are working within the organisation. The respective business has tow sites which
are located in Manchester and Liverpool. In this report different functional areas of business and
skills that are needed to accomplish all functional activities in effective manner.
TASK
Business Functional areas
Business: Business is an entity that is involved in various organisation activities such as
professional, industrial as well as commercial functions. There are various monetary as well as
non monetary objectives because of that the business is established. Non-monetary purpose
should be charitable missions or some social cause for social benefits (Bernard, 2018). Business
generates its revenues from buying selling as well as producing products and services.
Functional areas of business: There are various organisational activities and functions
are performed by the business to attain defined goals and objectives in effective manner.
Organisation has its separated departments for each functions with their specific goals and
objectives. The functional areas are divided into four parts such human resource department,
operations department, marketing as well as finance department.
Functional areas:
As the organisation have to conduct a number of activities that are divided in various
different department that are interrelated to each other and help the organisation to achieve
overall organisational goals in efficient manner (Podawca, Karsznia and Zawrzykraj, 2019).

Employees are appointed to these functional departments according to their specific
characteristic and competencies that enabled them to perform functions more efficiently. As all
areas are interrelated as well as necessary to achieve organisation defined objectives. Such as
financial department allot finance within all department according to their requirement to
perform functions and human resource department hire skilled as well as suitable employees who
perform all task in appropriate manner (Borra and Luppino,2017). There are various activities
are performed by the organization such as operations, research and development, strategy
formulation as well as management in effective and efficient manner in order to take sustainable
competitive advantages than respective competitors. Every department has their own strategies,
objectives and resources to attain separated goals. Some of functional areas are discussed below:
Marketing: Marketing is defined as the process which is performed by every organisation
for the purpose of increasing the purchasing and selling of products and services of organisation.
In order to enhance the products selling and customers various tools and techniques are used by
the organisation like promotions, advertisements, direct selling and maintaining personal
relations. IOM Electronics Limited use various tool of marketing in order to create awareness
among customers about organisational products and persuade them to purchase them and analyse
the needs and demands of customers to provide them better quality products to satisfy them
(Cao, 2017). Marketing activities facilitate the organisation to drag customers attention towards
organisation and retain them with organisation for long period of time.
Human resource management: Employees are the essential factor who performs all
function in proper manner in order to attain all goals and objectives efficiently. Human resource
management appoints suitable candidates, handle their problems and manage them to enhance
their work performance and efficiency. IOM Electronics Limited perform all these task
effectively as well as conduct various training and development programmes and motivates
employees to retain with organisation for long run.
Finance: Finance department is responsible to develop the budgetary plan for whole
organisation in order to provide finance to departments according to their requirement to perform
functions in efficient manner. In IOM Electronics Limited organisation, finance department
prepare all financial statements that includes all transactions that are done within defined period
of time. Employees payrolls are managed by the finance managers as well as state the financial
position o0f organisation.

Research as development: Research as development is the most important functional
area of organisation that is related to analysing and identifying scopes that needs to be developed
and as well as improved. Research helps the organisation to identify current market trends and
launch new products and services according to customers requirements through adding new
features in existing products. IOM Electronics Limited organisation conduct research as
development activities to analyse all all market factors as well as check the feasibility of
organizational products in current market.
Operations: Operational activities are related to convert all inputs or factors of
production into output like goods and services (de Freitas, 2020). Operations are defined as the
heart of business that produce the goods and services in proper quality and quantity in order to
meet all requirements and needs of customers. IOM Electronics Limited organisation involves
various latest technologies and other features to enhance the productivity level.
Skills needed by employees to be able to work effectively in these functional areas
Human resource plays important role in organizational activities in order to achieve all
defined goals and objectives with in defined period of time. Organisation appoints the suitable
employees to all department who fave enough skill and competencies to perform the specific
function. Various training and development programmes are conducted by the respective
organization to enhance employee skills so, they perform defined work effectively. IOM
Electronics limited conduct the recruitment process to hire right candidate at right place on right
time in order to enhance overall organisational performance. There are various skills as well as
competencies are required to perform specific function in appropriate manner. These skills are
discussed below:
Skills required to marketing employees: In marketing department employees knowledge
of current market trends, informations of respective market segment, needs and requirements of
customers are important to conduct all marketing activities. There are various analytical and
evaluating skills are necessary to analyse all internal as well as external factors that affect
business activities. Decision making is an important skill that facilitates marketing employees to
take effective decision according to situations (Feiock, Krause and Hawkins, 2017). Knowledge
of various marketing strategies, approaches and model enables employees to achieve all defined
marketing goals and objectives.

Skills required to human resource employees: There are various skills, knowledge as
well as competencies are required to accomplish task in defined manner. Employees of human
resource department must have communication, management as well as coordination skills in
order to manage organisational functions in better manner and communicate all policies to all
hierarchical level (Gill, Mirsattari and Leung,2017). Apart from them decision making,
motivational and conflict resolution skills are required to manage other employees and decrease
the rate of problems with organisation.
Skills required to finance employees: In order to operate various financial activities in
most efficient manner various skills and competencies are needed in employees who work in the
finance department. Financial resource allocation, budgeting as well as forecasting skills are
required to perform all task in defined manner. Negotiable and analytical skills are necessary to
manage organizational investments. Decisions related to the investment and and debts that
provide facilities to take various sustainable competitive advantages.
Skills required to the research and development employees: Research as development is
an important factor that provide information to improve organisational activities in order to take
competitive advantages then respective competitors. Communication, analytical, research,
evaluating and various interpersonal skills are requited to conduct research in order to gather
various relative information to enhance business performance.
Skills required in operational department employees: Operations activities are related to
the converting inputs into outputs according to requirements of customers in order to satisfy their
needs and demands. In operations various technical, interpersonal as well as conceptual skills are
being required to produce better quality products with defined time period or serve it in market
place to the potential customers (Leon-Moreta, 2019). There are knowledge of various strategies,
theories and their implementation is required to reduce operational cost and enhance
productivity and profitability.
CONCLUSION
As per above report, it can be concluded that business in various functional as well as
operational activities in order to achieve all defined goals and objectives in appropriate manner.
Organisations prepare a business plan that guide it to perform all task in defined time with
efficiency. In business various functions and activities are organised in sequential manner in

interconnected or depends upon each other to attain the main objective of organization. There
are various skills and competencies are required to perform the functions in efficient manner.
