Introduction
Functional areas are the various operations which is being operated in an organisation in
order to conduct the overall activities of the business and offer them a unique product to their
potential customers(Gupta, D., 2015). It is very important for every business organisation to have
the department in their operations so that they can enjoy the better working of their company.
The report is based upon the IMO electronics limited which is operated by a John and based on
the case study in which they are a little experience and just lottery bi that they decided to buy a
local company. There are 100 employees who are working in the organisation and John is aware
about the fact that he is not having much knowledge of responsibility involved in running the
business so he hired the individual in order to produce a report in the following areas.
2.0 Business
It is the separate legal entity which is owned by the individual or a group of people and
manufacture the product and services in order to satisfy the needs and wants of their potential
customers by which they can establish good brand image in the market.
3.0 Functional areas of business
Functional areas are the various unit in an organisation which are having different task to
perform such as sales production manufacturing advertising and delivering the product. The help
of functional areas, the business scan divide each task by analysing the skills and competencies
of the employees the consideration of completing them in an appropriate manner.
4.0 Key functional areas of a business.
There are various functional areas which is been operated with the consideration of
attaining effectiveness within the organisation. Various departments are human resource sales
and marketing finance, research & development and so on. These are the earth department which
co-ordinate each other in order to ensure good brand image in the market by offering quality
product to their potential customers.

5.0 Functional areas in business organizations
5.1 Marketing:
It is the department which is concerned for advertising and promoting the product and
services of the company so that they can attract a large group of potential customers in order to
increase their sale. They can use various social media channels such as online marketing and
email marketing in order to have easy promotion.
5.2 Human Resource Management:
It is the department which is concerned for the recruitment and selection of the deserving
candidate who is having integrated set of skills and abilities in order to perform their job role in
an appropriate manner. This would help in getting effectiveness within the organisation and they
can move towards higher success and growth.
5.3 Customer Service:
It is the unit which is concern for meeting the various requirements and queries of their
customers in order to have a better experience at the time of buying and it also providing after
sales services to them. This can help in maintaining better relationship with their potential
customers in order to establish good brand image in the market.
5.4 Finance:
It is the department is concerned for procuring and allocating the funds in the different
operation department so that every operation can use the innovative technique by having Full
support of finance in order to offer unique product and services to their potential customers by
which they can meet the emerging demand of their potential customers.
5.5 Research and Development:
It is the department which conduct the effective market research in order to analyse the
emerging changes in the marketplace so that they can offer the unique and innovative products
that can meet the needs and demands of customer at large market. This also help other
department to produce the product accordingly.

5.6 Sales:
It is the department which is related to the understanding of the company and they consider
the various approaches and strategies so that they can increase the sales of the company. They set
the sales target for every department and ensure the highest revenue for the.
6.0 Skills needed by employees work functional areas
6.1 Skills of Marketing employees:
Creativity and problem solving: it is important to have the creative skill by which the
individual can offer the innovative marketing solutions to the company by which they can
increase their profitability and revenue.
Adaptability: marketing individual must have the skill by which taken easily adopt the
the change without any serious issue so that they can understand the the exact demand of
their potential market and well as the consumer.
6.2 Skills Of Human Resource Management employees:
Administrative expert: HR department is integrated with the administrative work as well
so it is necessary for the employees to have effectiveness in administration and manager
on the work in an appropriate manner so that they can evaluate the better performance
within the organisation.
Proactivity: HR personnel must integrated with this skills and understand the the problem
and queries associated among the employees by themselves so that it get resolved quickly
in order to increase the more and their employees by which they can actively participate
in the various business operations in order to get effectiveness in them.
6.3 Customer Service employees skills
Speaking skills- when the individual is having good speaking ability. They can explain
the viewpoint and the features of product to the customer in an appropriate manner and
solve the various queries and problems of their buyers. This will helps the organsiation to
retain their loyal customer who will do the word of mouth in order to to share their
experience by using the specific product and services.
Self-control: sometimes the customer get upset or angry with the product and services
and they show their anger in front of business associate so it is important for the

their problem and resolve them quickly so that they can be returned to their brand.
6.4 Finance employees required skills
Excellent analytical skills: finance personnel must have the effective analytical skills in
which they can analyse and allocate the fund in the various operations so that every
department can run in an effective manner with the consideration of generating higher
profitability and growth within the organisation.
Sharp minded: the individual person who is working in the finance department of the
sharp mind so that they can calculate all the financial requirements of the business and
assess them within the set time frame by procuring from the different source of finance in
order to ensure a better working within the organisation.
6.5 Research and Development employees skills
Ability to handle database: research and development includes the management of large
database so it is necessary for the the employee to manage the huge amount of data at a
point of time so that they can use the specific strategy and technique in order to offer
innovative and unique product according to the market demand.
Teamwork: there is no research and development without a formation of effective team.
Through which the employee can contribute their best in achieving organisational goal in
an appropriate manner and also conduct the effective search of their marketplace in order
to understand the needs and demands of their potential customers.
6.6 Skills of Sales employees:
Conviencing skills: Sales is all about selling of product to the buyer and the individual
must have effective convincing power so that they can tell the features to the buyer by
which they can make the purchase of their products and services.
Active listening: salesperson must listen the buyer first so that taken analyse their
requirement with regards to their product like which we can increase the overall sale of
the company and maintain good brand image in the large market which also help in
increasing the the success of the company.

From the above discussion it is concluded that there are various functional areas which is
being performing their respective operations in order to get effectiveness within the organisation
and each department and their personal required skills such as active listening problem solving
creative thinking excellence in analytics good speaking skills conveniencing skills.
