INTRODUCTION
Functions of business are the activities which are carried out the organisations and they can
be classified as core functions and support functions of the organisation. Such functions are
performed by various departments that facilitate achievement of the overall organisational goal
(Sag, Sezen and Alpkan, 2019). The organisation that is taken in this report is Primark which is a
fashion retailer. In this report importance of various function of the organisation are discussed
along with the important of interrelation of various departments.
MAIN BODY
Marketing Department
Definition: Marketing department is responsible for promoting the business of the organisation
so that sales of the product and services can be increased (Hamilton and Webster, 2018). For
this various research need to be done by them regarding the target customers, their taste and
preference etc.
Importance: The marketing department of Primark formulate various promotional strategies,
with which they promote their clothing, maintain relations with the public and with the
distributors etc. Also it facilitates them in developing new product as per customers need
and wants.
Finance Department
Definition: The finance department is responsible for planning, organising, auditing, accounting
and controlling of finance of the company. Also they formulate various financial statements
(Cagle, Yılmaz and Doğru, 2020).
Importance: The Finance department of Primark identify various sources of funds and
according to the needs procure the funds. In addition to this it formulates various budgets so
that the operations can be managed.
Human resource Department
Definition: Human resource department is responsible for the well being of the human working
in the organisation (Osman, 2017). They determine the benefits for the employees, their
hiring and selection, payroll etc.

Importance: In Primark, the human resource department determine the salary of the employees,
manages their leave and compensation, resolves various issues which can lead to conflicts.
Also it manages the recruitment of the people in the company.
Operation/ Production Department
Definition: The production department of the organisation is responsible for manufacturing of
the goods of the company. It needs to establish various machines, employee mechanic and
many more so that the production can be made efficient efficiently (Benligiray and Onay,
2017).
Importance: Primark is a retail store due to which they do not have any manufacturing but they
have operations department that is responsible for establishing coordination among the
supplier, customers, employees etc.
How these functions linked with each other
All the departments of Primark work by interlinking their activities. With the help of this the
resources can efficiently be used and wastage of the resources can be managed. Also the chances
of the redundancy of the activity and delay can be reduced. Collaborative working practices of
Primark leads to shared vision among all the department. With this the quality of the services
improves and the efficiency in the performances of various departments can easily be achieved.
Also such interrelation among different department leads to better communication and flow of
information. This develops understanding among employees and various department with which
they operate (Santos, Mota and Baptista, 2018).
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above report that for achieving the goals and objectives effectively
the organisation needs to determine the importance of different function of the organisation. Also
by establishing interrelation among various departments the resources can efficiently be used and
understanding can be developed among all.
