Describe the importance of evidence based practise in context of health and
social care.
EBP is important as the main objective of this is to provide best care to
patients that helps in improving outcomes of patients. EVB helps in
promoting the activities and attitude of medical professionals. This helps the
health and social care department to ensure that health resources are used
effectively and good decisions are made for getting funds for providing
health care service. EBP has helped medical practitioners for improving the
service delivery to patients. It is necessary for healthcare practitioners to
adopt evidence based practise for providing better outcomes to patients.
P1 What is the purpose and process of accomplishing research in social and
health care services
The main purpose of EBP in providing medical services is to ensure
that all health care practices depends upon good evidence and profit of
patients. If EBP is used then results in continuous recommendations for
improving health care practise.
The process of Evidence based practise was given by Dr. David
Sackett. EBP is the explicit, conscientious and judicious use of present best
evidence in making decisions for developing effective decisions regarding
patient's care. There is development in EBP over the years for conducting
best research evidence, clinical expertise values and circumstances of
patients and characteristics of patients. The following diagram shows

P2 Explain the skills and qualities which are required for conducting literature
review
Literature review is defined as the survey of most important and relevant
academic research on specific topic for reflecting present state of knowledge
in filed. It is important for developing skills in various areas like information
literacy and synthesising skills for conducting a good literature review. Skills
and knowledge for conducting literature review are listed below -
 Identification and locating of literature in an effective manner
 Critical evaluation of sources of literature
 Use of resources of literature in an ethical manner
Analyse own skills and knowledge in being able to conduct literature review

If a research is conducted for health care practise, it is important that it
should follow ethical practices. A health care practise research is done by
using below mentioned skills - Social and clinical value – The questions made for evidence based
research must be specific and they should contribute to scientific
understanding of health and improve the ways for preventing, treating,
caring people against diabetes. Scientific validity – The ethical research must be designed in such a
way that there is understandable answer to research questions.

 Fair subject selection - The main objective of research is to find
participants and fair research should be conducted.
 Respect for potential and enrolled participants – The research
participants must be treated with respect throughout survey. The
researcher should protect their privacy and private information of them
should be kept confidential.

P3 Literature review for research topic
According to the viewpoint of Barber, C. and Et. Al., 2015,
communication is an important factor while getting better results in health
and social care service. In context of present research, the disease for which
EBP is planned is diabetes which is a disease that leads to premature death
and complications like blindness, rental diseases and cardiovascular
diseases. This disease is affecting younger and middle aged people (Kishore,
and Et. AL., 2014). This is a chronic disease which occurs when pancreas is
not able to produce enough insulin or when body is not using insulin that it is
producing (Ooi, Rae, and Pak, 2016). The type 1 diabetes or juvenile or
childhood onset diabetes is caused by the deficiency of insulin in the body
and it required daily administration of insulin. According to medical
researches, the main reason behind type 1 diabetes is not known. There is
no enough knowledge regarding curing of this disease (Stokke, and Et. Al.,
2014). The evidence based practise for diabetic patients of age 1-18 will
include three considerations – absolute benefits and harm of medication,
time horizon for benefiting, clinical judgement and evidence based
medication.
P4 Explain your results of the literature review
From the above literature review, it can be concluded that evidence
based practise for diabetic patients include three parts- best available
evidence, clinical judgement and evidence based machine. In this research,
the next important part is clinician's judgement that includes individualised

risk profile, prognosis and socio personal context. At last the step which is
important is value of patient as after this, decision making is done.
Summarise current knowledge about communication
There is a proper way by which health care professionals and clinicians
communicate to their patients and this will benefit these patients by
improving various concepts such as decision making, psychosocial
adjustment, satisfaction with care and treatment compliance.
Communication is essential in a research and this consists of empathic
listening and creation of environment in which patients express their
thoughts freely.

The literature review is valid and reliable. This contains relevant

Communication is essential as it helps in knowing and analysing actual
feelings and requirements of patients. The sources used in this literature

Research Methodology
Research methodology is defined as process which is used for
collecting information and data for purpose of making business decisions or
project outcomes (Straus, and Et. Al. 2018.). There are basically two types of
ways of research methodology used in research i.e. qualitative method and
quantitative method. The research method used in this project is qualitative
method in which questionnaire is used for obtaining data. Also secondary
data is also used for accomplishing the project.
What is proposed research project
The proposal for the research is to analyse the importance of
communication while conducting an ethical research. While conducting an

evidence based practise, it is important for healthcare practitioners to use
effective communication with patients for successful evidence practise.
Types of diabetes
 Type 1: This Type of diabetes is believed to be in reaction condition. In
other words, when your immune system is low or erroneously attacks
and destroys beta cells in your pancreas which produce insulin where
damage is permanent and it causes diabetes.
 Type 2: The Type 2 diabetes starts with insulin resistance, in this body
can’t use insulin efficiently which affects and stimulates pancreas to
produce more and more insulin. If production of Insulin decrease then,
it leads to increase in the level of blood sugar.
The cause of type 2 diabetes includes many factor such as:
 it can be genetics
 when person do not do exercise
 when person being overweight
The general symptoms of diabetes includes:
 being very thirsty
 extreme hunger
 Frequent urination
 Accidental weight loss
 Drowsiness & weakness
 being cranky
 Dry, itchy skin
 Blurry vision
 Slow-healing wounds

The literature used for conducting research informs that review is
diverse and it involves various research methodologies and paradigms. It
was essential to place some boundaries around literature review that
consists of restricting study to healthcare. Literature reviews including
systematic reviews emphasises on evidence based practise, quality
improvement, diffusion of innovation and quality improvement. Primary
study of implementation of evidence based practise used effective literature
review to analyse communication's importance in healthcare practise.

healthcare.
Recent research has had a positive impact on current practise for
improving service delivery (Rosenberg, and Donald, 2015). The main
objective of evidence based practise is to improve outcome of patient. In
context of improving service delivery, with increase in technological

advancement in medical science there is development in services offered to
patients. This can be explained by an example, a diabetic patient earlier was
given medicines for treatment. But nowadays, a diabetic patient is treated
by injecting insulin directly into blood of that person. This has improved the
way by which diabetic patients are treated.
Evaluate the impact of personal process on learning and practise of the
workplace?
A personal process on learning and practise helps in enhancing
experience of an individual. With the increase in technology, it is seen that
workplace is also enhanced. In context of health and social care, Personal
research process includes way by which people can analyse the requirement
and demand and can use medications on own (Davidoff, and Et. Al., 2005).
People should have knowledge about particular disease they are suffering
from. In case of diabetes, people have to go to hospitals for checking sugar
level. But nowadays patients can use sugar test machine for checking sugar
level of blood. This is convenient and easy way for patients to check their
sugar level.
