General Information for Candidates
How is this task assessed?
After completion of this assessment task, you will be assessed as ‘satisfactory’ or ‘not satisfactory’. You will be
given feedback via Moodle and have an opportunity to submit additional evidence.
For a ‘satisfactory’ result in this task, all sections must be answered to a ‘satisfactory’ standard with a mark of
50% or above achieved. At Advanced Diploma level a ‘satisfactory’ standard, as stipulated by the Australian
Qualifications Framework (AQF), means that you will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills:
with depth in areas of specialisation, in contexts subject to change
with initiative and judgment in planning, design, technical or management functions with some
direction
to adapt a range of fundamental principles and complex techniques to known and unknown situations
across a broad range of technical or management functions with accountability for personal outputs and
personal and team outcomes within broad parameters
Assessors also make decisions based on the following considerations:
all parts of the assessment task/s have been completed to a standard that satisfactorily meets the
requirements set out in all of the assessment criteria (as set out in the unit/module outlines).
the assessment tasks are the student’s own work, except as appropriately acknowledged by the use of
referencing.
the evidence is recent and knowledge is up-to-date
the evidence is consistent showing competency over a period of time suggesting sustained performance
(i.e. not just a one off).
Assessment Task Instructions:
1. The best marks can be earned by giving concise brief answers that addresses the questions as put to you.
2. The time indicated is tentative and is not meant to restrict your answers
3. The main idea behind the use of assignment questions are for you the student to learn and understand
the material by reading it and answering the questions as put. Cutting and pasting from internet sites or
the study material does not enhance that learning process. However, appropriate diagrams can be
pasted if you cannot draw them.
4. Attempt ALL questions
5. Use this document also for furnishing your answers by typing the answers after each question without
deleting the question. Use this Microsoft Word document as it stands. Make sure that you preserve the
original question number format and that you don’t change the question numbers by adding extra lines
or deleting existing ones.
6. Do not add extra pictures etc as Annexures but add the pictures and diagrams directly into this main
answer sheet by pasting. Handrawn sketches can be inserted after scanning but please ensure that the
assignment filesize does not become big (more than 10 MB).
7. Refer in the text to diagrams and pictures etc that you have drawn or pasted in. Do not only paste them
into the document without referring to them in the text.
8. Finally when saving your document (must be WORD FORMAT), ensure you save the title to include
your name : COURSECODE_MODULE#_ASSIGNMENT_VERSION#_YOURNAME E.g.
DMC_Module9_Assignment_v3_BOB_BROWN
9. Please ensure that all answers must be in your own words. Copying and pasting is not allowed.
10. Please ensure you sign and date the below statement to verify your assessment submission as your own
material.

Download and install GanttProject. You can also access this software from remote lab Profibus.
Refer to the GanttProject tutorial for assistance.
The following represents a very simple project. The calendar allows for 5 work days (M-F) per week.
To keep things simple we won’t separate capital expenses and labour. The cost per activity shown
below is total (i.e. not per day).
Activity Duration (days) Precedent Cost
A 5 None* $500
B 7 None* $1000
C 3 A , B $400
D** 4 C $500
E** 6 C $800
* Except for ‘Start’
** The project can only be signed off once D and E have been completed.
Enter the data into GanttProject, and generate the PERT and Gantt charts. [16]
Please ensure that:
You have Start and Finish nodes
That all nodes have connections (dependencies) on both sides (except the left-hand side of Start
and the Right-hand side of Finish
You have no bars (float) running across your Gantt chart because of missing dependencies
Answers that ignore the three bullet points above will receive a ‘0’ mark for this question.

Output
Output of the multimeter will be digital in nature. This will incur the fact that the
management of the project gets performed in a manner that will help in gaininga better prosecution
Functions
Multimeter acts as an instrument that deals with several inputs in a same time along with the
several ooutput modes present. The user of the multimeter has to chose the technique of using the
multimeter amd the functioning will be performed in a similiar manner
Safety
Multimeter is a safe device, no kind of hazardous incident is suppose to happen unless used
by kids. Chances of explosion is negligible.
Packaging
Packagong of the multtimeter comes in a insulator case that is painted with different colors
and hence the projection is performed with higher integriity
Conclusion
Multimeter is used in regular day to day life for data analysis and data gathering. Presence of
different modes will be beneficial in the completion of the project in which the multimeter is being
used.

4.2 Group Dynamics
Read through the case study and then answer the following three questions. There are no right and
wrong answers, but please refer to the basic group dynamics concepts outlined during the webinar.
You may also consult the following chapter outline and chapter summary from a textbook on
Organizational Behaviour. 3617
(a) Which characteristics of group behaviour can you identify? Please refer to the slides on group
dynamics.
(b) How did the diverse nature of the group affect the committee’s actions?
(c) If you were in Jose’s position, what would you have done differently? [10]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
Your answers here:
(a) the case study depicts the negetive characetristics of a group. The team memebers who were
under the chair of the task force did not listen to Jose and they kept sugessting that they follow the
previous designes, they also did not show good team work where they did not agree to whatever
Jose said. Despiteknowing the fact that presidents involved in the project had decided the
redesigning of the products, they kept neglecting their aim. They were also not focussed on the task
that they were supposed to perform, they refused in redesigning the project, they instead told Jose
to write a memo to the presidents saying that they would follow the previous designes.
(b) the diverse nature of the group had affected on the committee’s actions negetively. They had
completely refused and seemed to have no interest in the project, whcich did not allow Jose to
proceed in the project because he had specialization in a specific field and the memebrs were chosen
in such a way that they belonged to different fields which would have been helpful for the project but

Jose could not start with the project at all. The committee had to close the project due to lack of
participation of memebers.
(c) if I were in Jose’s position I would have tried my best to convince them to participate in the
project and complete it succesfully. I would have made them understand that the previous designes
are backdated and need a renovation, I would have explained them the benefits of the redesigning of
the products, that it would increase its popularity and it would be beneficial for the organization as
well. In case they would not have agreed, I would have informed the presedents regarding the issue
and told them to resolve it.

4.3 Leadership and Professional Conduct
Watch the short video depicting a disastrous meeting.
(a) What leadership style does the boss exhibit?
(b) After the boss had gone, the two guys left the room. In terms of the Sit Lead model; in which ‘D’
quadrant (follower readiness) would you categorize them?
(c) After the two guys had gone as well, three ladies remained in the room. In terms of the Sit Lead
model; in which ‘D’ quadrant (follower readiness) would you categorize them?
(d) Which situational leadership style(s) (S), in your opinion, would have been appropriate for this
group?
(e) Identify at least one instance of unprofessional conduct. [10]

Your answers here:
(a) the leadership style that the boss exhibits in this video is autocrati leadership style, this is because
it is based on control. And as seen in the video the boss did not seem to have any interest to
participate in the discussion. she did not tend to discuss regarding the actual topic, rather she
seemed to waste time by discussion something that has already been discussed.
(b) after boss had left the two guyz left the conversation as well, based on this behaviour they can be
categorized with the help of Sit Lead model, the category where they fall in COACH quadrant. This is
because they too did not show any interest in the overall conversation. As soon as the boss left, the
girls wansted them to discuss a bit on the topic but they expected the girls to do the rest of the work
and left theroom.
(c) after the boys had left, the girls stayed back and showed some interest in discussing about the
topic. They can be categorized in the quadrant of Instruct, this describes that they have high desire as
well as high capability, one of the girls had taken initiative and prepared a list regading what they had
to discuss, its budget and what they can do in that specific event. She had shown high interest in
participating in the discussion. the suggested meadership style would have the boss to actually work
like a group and appriciated the work of every member, she would not have considered that they a
huge amount of time so they can continue their discussion later on.

(d) the situational leadership style that would have been best for this specific group is Laissez- Faire
Leadership. This would have been appropriate because it would have helped the boss to not over rule
the discussion and consider everyone’s opinion instead of just doing what she wanted.
(e) this video consists of numeorus unprofessional conducts, some of them include firsly she came
late and everyone had to wait for her, secondly she rarely discussed regarding the actual topic and
drifted towards a specific topic that had already been discussed previously, later one of the girls
insisted to discuss one more subtopic on that day but she denied in doing so and the team members
had to do so. At last she received a call and just left the room, her oarticipation in the discussion was
almost null and she took advanatge of being a boss. None of the above mentioned practices are
professional and an effective group or boss would not have the same rather she would have
appretiated the desire of the girl and considered here sugessions. Not only did she misuse her power
of being a boss of the group she also influenced the rest of the boys as well in not participating in the
discussion and considering it casually. She also did not allow the rest of the girls to continue with it.

4.4 Ethics in Engineering
For the following five scenarios, state briefly ‘what you would have done’ from an ethics perspective.
(a) Using company resources
(b) Gifts from a supplier
(c) Informing employees about layoffs
(d) Dissent about quality
(e) Exceeding pollution limits
[10]

Your answers here:
(a) Using companyb resources for sake of company can be tolerated but using company resource for
personal benefit can never be tolerated
(b) Receiving gifts from supplier is a good thing but treating the gifts as bribes is not an ethical task
(c) Informing employees about layoffs are mandatory as each empoyee has the right to know the
reason of termimnation
(d) Staying content about the quallity of product is imporrtant. This is the main reasoon that
prosecution of the busienss efficiency must be performed in a better manner
(e) Exceeding pollution limits is compeletely unethical. I would have reduced the pollution growth
even if my company suffers and production rate decreases

Your answers here:
(a) 1. Monitoring different framework of the project is one of the main responsibilities of the
Associate engineer. Supervising the rural project as per the management of their construction
process is alos considered to be one of the main job roles of an associate engineer. For check
example: In an ongoing project the site engineers are responsible for proper completion of
the project and the associate engineers are responsible for monitoring the tasks that are
being performed in the project
2. Designing different contsructional drawings as per the requirement of the project that they
are working on. Coordinating with the managers are also one of the major prospect of the
Associate Engineers. Analyzing the samples that are provided to them and creare prototypes in
accord to the system is also considered as a amajor responsibility. For Examples: Associate
engineers are well accustommed with the requirement of the project and hence developing
prototype of the project acts beneficial in the completion of the report.
3. Assisting fellow and senior engineers to prepare qa project plan as per the stated
requirement of the project. Understamding the cost requirement and hencewise preparing cost
sheet and develop a better managinng process. Developing schedule that will be helpful for the
completion of the entire project. For example: The associate engineers have proper research
done as per the requirements of the project. This makes them effcient enough to be viable to
develop a schedule. The scheduling process helps in increasing the efficency of the project. This is
the reason that project completion will get easoer after proper developing of the schedule
4. Maintaininga and manufacturing data base and implement lean methodologies regarding
the completion of the project. For example: The associate engineers are solely responsible for the
developing a schedule in which the enture functioning will be based on. This is the major reasoon
that developing database will get easier and this data collection will help in proper analysis of the
project.
(b) 2 attributes of globally aware associate engineers are as follows: -
1. keeping on developing oneself: Developing one self is one of the most important aspect
that will be taken inti consideration as per the maangement of the project. This ensuresc the fact that
management of the project will get performed in a better manneer in which the personeel will be in.
this section imbibes the fact that the prosecution of the associate engineers will get better

6.0 QUESTIONS RELATED TO WEBINAR 6 [TOTAL: 40 MARKS]
There are four topics for this webinar, viz. Workplace Health & Safety Issues, Presentation Skills,
Technical Skills & Career Planning, and Contract Law.
6.1 Workplace Health and Safety Issues
(a) What is the definition of a ‘competent person’? [1]
(b) How is OHS (also known as WHS) supported and enforced? [1]
(c) Outline the procedure you would follow in order to perform a workplace health and safety
assessment. This material is well-represented on the Internet, but PLEASE USE YOUR OWN
WORDS. Also employ good technical writing measures (e.g. structure) with headings and
paragraph numbering where applicable. About 1/2 page will be sufficient. [4]
(d) Identify one of the issues to be investigated during a health and safety assessment. [1]
(e) What are the general prerequisites for working on energized high-voltage systems? [2]
(f) What is the definition of high voltage? [1]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your answers here:
) Not all the employees within an organization can be regarded as a c ompetent person. The
deifnition of a competent person can only be designated to the employee who has the ability of
predetermining the hazards associated with the tasks assigned to him or her and before continuing
with the entire task, the competent person develops the proper procedures to mitigate those risks
right before. Organizations do not have a specific criterion regarding the way by which a competent
person or employee should act or perfom, so initially it creates a confusion in organizations to
understand a competent person. However, a competent person can be recognized when a person
does not perform just according to the competency levels but also has the authority to work in the
corrective measures when needed.
(b) OHS or the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, is enforced to most of the organizations in
Victoria which includes various organizations from different industries, including places where self
employed or salaried employeed work. The OHS law is enforced within the industries to mostly
prevent the injuries that can happen to employees or any person associated with the organization
during the work. This also covers the illness and the diseases that occur within the organization
hampering or affecting the works of the employees. The OHS is supported due to the ability of the
policies under it that makes sure that the potential hazards at rhe workplace is maintained. The OHS
is enforced by the Ministry of Labour, which is designated to handle all the inspections regarding the
workplaces to find if they are feasible for the employees to work.
(c) Following would be the procedures to go through in order to perform a workplace health and
safety assessment according to a specific organization:

) Not all the employees within an organization can be regarded as a c ompetent person. The
deifnition of a competent person can only be designated to the employee who has the ability of
predetermining the hazards associated with the tasks assigned to him or her and before continuing
with the entire task, the competent person develops the proper procedures to mitigate those risks
right before.

FPE Module – Individual Assignment 31
Step 1: Inspect the entire workplace, including the ones designated for the employees at all
levels of the organization. The employers would be designated to perform the job and it is
their responsibility to make sure that all the workplaces are technically and thoroughly
inspected to assess all the health and safety risks that might occur when an employee is about
to perform their day to day duties.
Step 2: Assess the level of harm caused by the risk and who would be harmed as a
repercussion.
Step 3: After the risk is assessed, it is required that the responsible people make out specific
ways by which the risks can be mitigated and take appropriate actions against it.
Step 4: The risks found so far should be documented along with the steps taken to mitigate it
and the status of the risks so far after the mitigation actions have been performed.
Step 5: The entire assessment of the risks should be performed.
(d) It can occur that during a safety and health assessment there are various issues found regarding
the workplace health and safety implications. The health hazards can be of various types, on account
of which they are categorized according to the types of hazards, such as, physical, chemical and
egronomical.
It can occur that according to the types of hazards that can occur, the physical hazards can occur
within a workplace, where the unchecked problems in the machineries can create hazardous
situations within a work environment.
(e) Working within a specific enclosed area should be given a lot of focus to make sure that all the
operations are working according to the safety and hazards policy as descibed per the organization. If
the working facility for the workers employ the people in working within closed proximity of the high
voltage areas, there are some prerequisites that are needed to be maintained. Such as, the electrical
panels should always be locked within the control while accessing or operating 600 volts or less, the
safe distance policies that should be measured according to the distance of the electrical panels to
the employees and the power line saftey policies should be maintained accordingly.
(f) According to normal standards, High Voltage is deifned to be the voltage that is high enough or
capable enough to cause any kind of injuries to the people. The organization of OSHA has designated
a specific standard of the high voltages, which is considered to be 600 volts or above.

6.4 Contract Law
Read through the following scenarios; then provide your own interpretation of the legal positions
below. Please look carefully at the requirements for valid contracts.
(a) Joe and George are good friends. Joe is a Builder and George is in Underwear. George wants a
house built so after a few drinks Joe says, "You get the materials and I will build it for you". George
accepts Joe's offer, they shake hands and seal the offer with another round of drinks. When George
buys the materials he cannot get Joe to build because Joe is too busy on another contract. What is the
legal position?
(b) George has plans prepared for a house. Joe offers to build the house for $50,000. George agrees to
have Joe build, it if he can do it for $45,000. With no further communication Joe builds, and invoices
the full $50,000 saying he had never agreed to any subsequent figure. What is the legal position?
(c) Party A advertises a car for sale for $10,000. Party B has a look at the car and says, "Looks OK but
your asking price is too high for me, I'm offering you $8,000." Party A says, "I'll be in touch if I don't get
a better price." The next day Party A rings Party B and says, "Your price was the best, I'll take it". Party
B says, "Sorry, I bought another car this morning." What is the legal position? [10]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your answers here:
(a) The entire agreement designed in the case study is brought upon by verbal agreements based upon
drunk conversations. The verbals agreements shared as per the contexts of the above case study,
shared between the builder Joe and the businessperson George can deifnitele be explained by the
legislation policies as described under the construction contracts. The promise that Joe made to George
was commenced over a few round of dribnks and the offer was sealed in the same manner. Therefore,
according to the construction contracts, the entire legal position of the case is not valid and no law can
be enforces upon even if Joe declines making the offer work for George. This is because, under the
Construction Contract deisgned by the law, any verbal agreement made under the influence of alcohol
if not materialized into legal documents are not to be considered as a viable agreement and therefore,
no law can be enforced upon the given situation. Thus, George can not take any legal step against Joe
even if he declines the making of his house as the agreement made between them has no physical
proof.
(b) In the secind situation as well, the entire set of agreements that are made between Joe and George
are based upon the verbal or oral contracts, however, this time, the conversation materializing into an
agreement does not occur under the influence of alcohol. In this case, when George is now keen on
building the house on his own, Joe has offered to help. George agrees, but only if the payment can be
cut down to 45,000 USD which was initially 50,000 USD as per the assumptions of George. Joe agrees
but still hands over George with an invoice of 50,000 USD. By this, it can easily be seen that Joe has
violated the entire agreement. According to the Construction laws and Legalities, Joe can be held viable
or accused on account of the violating of the verbal agreement, but it can be difficlut for George as
there is again no witness or physical documentation of the entire conversation or the verbal
agreement. On the other hand, the builder Joe has an invoice, which is a valid proof that his expenses
while building the house has been 50,000 USD indeed.
(c) For offers like buying a car or selling a house, there are certain policies for which there should be
written proof of the agreements, based on which the agreements would be deemed as viable. The
entire dealing with the buyer and the seller of the car has been totally verbal with no written proof.
