1CONTEMPORARY PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Introduction:
This report contains the critical reflection of my project management role on Local
Community Fun Park project along with my project members. It will comprise of my
contribution to this project to make it a successful one while pointing out the challenges that I
have faced while doing the project. The report also highlights the positive experience and the
general ability of mine to work within a group.
Evaluation of the task I was responsible for:
Being one of the members in the project management group, I was responsible for the
role of project manager in the group, which included assigning a task to my team members
and checking regular progress update. It was within my sole responsibility to ensure that the
project does not deviate from its primary objectives. During the initiation of the project, I
participated fully in the project planning. I prepared a team charter which made everyone in
the team clear about their specific role in the project management of constructing an
amusement park near Indreni Lake located in the southern part of the municipality.
Stakeholder list is one of the charter element which I included where the key stakeholders are
listed. I also added the list of resources which are needed for this project. Lastly, I took the
signature of each of the group members to ensure their commitments towards the project and
all my project members cooperated with me very actively. The next part of the plan comes
about charter decision making where I along with my team members analyzed the charter and
pointed out the complexity of the size of the project and finally came to the conclusion that
the chosen area is a suitable place for constructing the amusement park. A work break- down
structure is hence prepared consisting of the detailed design, purchasing of the materials
required, daily meetings and other expenses that are to be met during the initiation. After
planning accordingly, the project timeline is scheduled, and different sections of the work

breakdown structure are given some allotted time. In this project, the time estimation method
that I used is enumeration method which is used to determine the critical path which is
required in the network and the two pass method which helped in determining the amount of
slack time needed to complete each activity. Furthermore, I created a Gantt chart which
included project milestones of making the construction. The project was broken down into
different stages like the Scheduling the project, making a list of resources and budget
planning, then reporting, assessing the possible risks in the construction and identifying them,
making use of quality tools and finally the transition plan of the project was sorted out.
Theory related to the evaluation:
Project management is nothing except the teamwork and its coordination. At the
initiation phase of the project planning, I prepared a team charter where the role of each team
member is ensured(Kloppenborg 2014 p.84). Here I assured some of the elements while
preparing the charter. It is more or less like a contract signed between two parties, and neither
of them can change the document without the consent of the other. The elements which are
included in a project charter provides for the overview of the project, the complexities as in
this case the permission of the multiple government agencies were required, the technology
involvement like this construction project needed IS resources for ticket booking, registering,
automating food stalls and riding controlling machines. Thus from this charter it was seen
that the complexity is moderate. In the next process of prioritising the project, the project
management plan was developed, and the probable stakeholders are communicated.
According to the theory of Arthur Shelly(Kloppenborg 2014 p.116), one effective way by
which stakeholders can be described is by metaphor reflections which is a way to use animals
to represent behaviours stimulating constructive communications between the stakeholders.
In this project, the list of stakeholders includes the project manager, Testing expert, the daily
working employees and the business analyst.

As we proceeded the major work break down structure is prepared where different
strata’s of the project were given their respective duration and the beginning and ending date.
The reason for which I utilized the WBS is that it serves an outline for integrating various
functions like scheduling, resources, cost and many other qualities and thus can handle the
abrupt change that can happen in a project. Another essential part of the plan is making the
RACI chart. A RACI chart is a type of responsibility assignment matrix that defines the
involvement of stakeholders in the project activities by marking them as Responsible,
Accountable, Consult and Inform. In this project, I was responsible for the events like
initiation, detailed design contract and purchasing of the requirement for the project. The
scheduling of the project was done very effectively and the complete schedule done for the
project was 225 days. The time estimation of the critical path in the project is determined
using enumeration method and two pass method (Kloppenborg 2014 p.185). The advantage
of the enumeration method is that all the tracks are identified and timed accordingly whereas
the two pass method determines the amount of slack each activity has. It has four subparts-
the earliest possible date to start the project, early finish date, last start date and previous
finish date of the project.
Lesson learned from the project:
Activities of the project were well coordinated, and team members worked delicately
based on their ability. I managed the entire project and also negotiated the budget details with
the team members, ensuring the smooth transition of the project from one stage to the other.
Several challenges were encountered while doing the project like resolving the issues during
the making of charter elements, even distribution of project task as many of the members
initially did not want to overtake the responsibility given to them. Also constructing a park by
the side of the lake Indreni needed municipality permission which was a long process and
various environmental factors like pollution of the water and various other aspects were kept

in mind before continuing the project. From the project I learned that most crucial part of the
project planning is building an efficient project team. The first step in building an effective
team is by resource planning which requires one to identify the human skills required to
complete the project. Communication skill is another important factor that I learned from
taking up this project. When information is shared effectively among co-workers the
workload gets divided and the role of each person becomes easier.
Conclusion:
In general, I would describe that my overall experience was brilliant. I was able to gain
practical knowledge in managing the project and was involved in providing possible
solutions. Moreover, I am now aware of the importance of time management. In future, if I
get any chance of doing a second project, I would look up to my communication skill as this
serves a lot in successful project work.
