Future of Nursing: Challenges, Skills, and Professional Growth

Response One:
Claire, one of my respected colleagues, agreed to my discussion about the challenges and
skills required for becoming nursing professionals in future. She was of the view that if we are
not rained technically, our segment might fall short of perfection in future as well. The only thing
that we need to improve at the moment relates us with the technology. According to her example,
the robotic surgery has brought precision in the operative methods of clinical care, however, the
knowledge of handling and maintaining the apparatus involved in the process of operation are
still not well known to the nursing professionals. Thus, they need assistance in case of
emergency—a time when there is no doctor available unfortunately and a nurse has to handle the
case for a while—the setting of the apparatus and keeping the situation under control might
hamper the progress of quality in a particular setting.
Claire also advocated for the need of full time partnership offered to nursing
professionals in future in healthcare organizations. It will be very useful to see nurse
demonstrating their leadership skills at the top level management especially in the context of
community hospitals. The administrative responsibility and management of the organization with
a leadership point of view will actually bring the skills of professional nurses on the surface;
there will be no gap left as it is today, between the roles of a medical expert, hospital
management expert and a nursing professional. She was literally of the view that future will
generate the multitasking people in terms of nursing professionals who will be offered a
complete range of professional responsibilities. She agreed to the view of managing the hospital
environment with thee positivity and skilled hands of nurses in future. It is also happening in the
present; however, it has not been done on such a large scale as it is required to be done.

Response Two
Kelley shared her views in the form of feedback to the current discussion as bringing up a
new face of professional and personal life merging for future nursing professionals. In fact, it has
started already in the present hospital settings, she stated. The present environment of work does
not let the nurses to treat their personal and professional life separately and it affects their
functioning. She added a few points to the discussion I had made by stating that nurses should be
placed in a anew design of work where they are allowed to distinguish their professional and
personal life. It will indirectly improve the quality of healthcare delivery in future as well. She
presented the example of her working by saying that at times, she would bring her work to home
—taking the documents of the patients to home—and vice versa. She finds it quite an uneasy job
to manage the personal and professional life and maintaining work life balance for her is very
complicated. Apart from the challenges and upcoming opportunities in nursing sector in future,
she discussed about the challenge of managing the professional work with personal life.
In fact, her feedback added a new angle to the current discussion which was about
building a perfect work life balance. The healthcare organizations of future will understand the
emergency of situation and they might provide enough opportunities to improve the professional
quality of healthcare delivery through implementing the rotation policies of working effectively
for nurses. In that way, nurses will be able to manage their time professionally as well as
personally to have a better life than currently it is seen with broad professional perspective. Thus,
Kelley’s opinion was faire and square in terms of looking at some hidden aspects of the
positivity lied in the future of nursing professionals. These certain and specific areas of
improvement must be addressed with priority so that the positive environment of work in future

can be maintained and other challenges—which are definitely more important than anything else
—can be entertained with maximized potential.
Response Three
Ruby, the third colleague in this discussion procedure, agreed to the notion of updated
knowledge about diseases and their proper handling. In fact, she was of the view that in future,
nurses should be given some kind of designed platform to have continuous chances of growth in
terms of knowledge. This constantly updated knowledge will enhance their participation in
continuum amount of care especially working with Accountable Care Organizations. Their
effective participation, in any form and condition of treatment, will be determined with the help
of their updated knowledge of nursing norms. He explained the concept with an example that if a
nurse is aware of the newly found drug which can be given in the emergency cases of diabetes
type 2, she might just consult the medical expert and provide the drug to the patient. In the
current setting, in this scenario, the doctor will be called first and after diagnosis based
examination of the patient, only the doctor will allow the patient to have certain kind of drug.
Ruby actually has provided an interesting feedback about merging the duties assigned to
medical experts and nurses in future; the gaps between them must be bridged with the help of
updating the curriculum and knowledge of the nursing professionals. His conceptual framework
will be helpful in dealing with the challenging situations in the medical homes situated in the
remote areas where the facilities of the doctors are still not up to mark. At least with the help of
his/her knowledge, a nursing professional will be ale to buy some time for the patient in terms of
crucial phases of diseases. According to her views overall, the future of nursing will involve this

merging of duties in terms of providing quality clinical care to the patients especially in the
emergency situations.
