AI Summary
This document presents a comprehensive set of solutions to statistics worksheets, likely for a graduate-level course (EDD 103) at Columban College's G-SPACE program. The worksheets cover a wide range of statistical concepts, including definitions of key terms like descriptive and inferential statistics, nominal and ordinal variables, and the application of statistics in research. Solutions are provided for various exercises involving variable classification, frequency distributions, cumulative frequency, grouped frequency distributions, and the creation of different types of graphs (bar, line, and pie charts). The document also includes calculations for measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and measures of dispersion (variance, standard deviation) using both raw and grouped data. Furthermore, it addresses sampling methods, including sampling frames and stratified sampling, which provides a detailed guide to understanding the concepts and applications of statistics in a research context. The student has provided detailed answers to all the worksheets.

Worksheet 1
1. Define the following terms:
1.1 Statistics - Statistics is the discipline that concerns the collection, organization,
analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data. In applying statistics to a scientific,
industrial, or social problem, it is conventional to begin with a statistical population or
a statistical model to be studied.
1.2 Descriptive Statistics - Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of
the data in a study. They provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures.
Together with simple graphics analysis, they form the basis of virtually every quantitative
analysis of data.
1.3 Prediction - a thing predicted; a forecast.
1.4 Nominal Variable - A nominal variable is another name for a categorical
variable. Nominal variables have two or more categories without having any kind of
natural order.
1.5 Ordinal Variable - Ordinal variable is a type of measurement variable that takes
values with an order or rank. It is the 2nd level of measurement and is an extension of the
nominal variable.
1.6 Interval Variable - The interval variable is a measurement variable that is used to
define values measured along a scale, with each point placed at an equal distance from
one another. It is one of the 2 types of numerical variables and is an extension of the
ordinal variable.
1.7 Ratio Scale - The ratio variable is one of the 2 types of continuous variables, where
the interval variable is the 2nd. It is an extension of the interval variable and is also the
peak of the measurement variable types.
1.8 Inferential Statistics - Inferential statistics is one of the two main branches
of statistics. Inferential statistics use a random sample of data taken from a population to
describe and make inferences about the population.
1.9 Dependent Variable - is the effect. Its value depends on changes in the independent
variable.
1.10 Independent Variable - is the cause. Its value is independent of other variables in
your study.
2. Statistical knowledge helps you use the proper methods to collect the data, employ the correct
analyses, and effectively present the results. Statistics is a crucial process behind how we make
discoveries in science, make decisions based on data, and make predictions.
3. Independent variable: The type of light the tomato plant is grown under
Dependent Variable: The rate of growth of the tomato plant
4. Examples:
4.1 Tomatoes grow fastest under fluorescent, incandescent, or natural light
4.2 The effect of diet and regular soda on blood sugar levels
4.3 Phone use before bedtime affect sleep
4.4 Different plant species tolerate salt water
5. Independent and dependent variables:
Independent: The type of light the tomato plant is grown under
