University Game Design Project: Academic Integrity and Misconduct

This project report details the design and development of a game focused on academic integrity. The introduction establishes the significance of academic integrity in higher education, discussing its value and implications of misconduct like cheating, plagiarism, and research fraud. Section 1 defines academic integrity and its importance for both institutions and students, highlighting its role in ethical practices and original work. Section 2 outlines the steps taken in the game's creation, detailing the difficulties encountered, such as oversimplification, balancing education with entertainment, and feature creep. The report emphasizes the abilities learned, including research methods and the understanding of academic integrity's importance. The conclusion summarizes the necessity of academic integrity in academic work and its reflection in personal life. The project aimed to educate students on the value of ethical behavior and the consequences of academic misconduct through an engaging game.

Introduction
Academic integrity is an intellectual challenge that student face in their academic work in
order to exceed what studied in their textbook, lectures etc. To assess, synthesize the
informations and rethink regarding data or concepts that student find from their sources. The
satisfaction arrive when work done with originality, genuine and new materials are collected and
presented by student with their effort with research are learned courses (Macfarlane, Zhang, and
Pun, 2014). However doing genuine work often feel challenging to many. Integrity is the quality
of being genuine and having strong moral principles that one is deny to change.
Section 1
An Introduction contains a statement of Academic Integrity
Academic integrity can be seen as valuable code that regulate educational institutions. In
more simpler terms, it act as regulation of morals, with the help of this moral academic
authorities are operated. It is the standard through which following institution assure that
research, scores,printing,educating etc. scholarly attempt are done in ethical manner by avoid
misconduct during anyone's academic writing (Levitas, 2021). Some of the major areas of
concern are include in academic integrity are as follows:
 Cheating during assessments and assignments at university level.
 Plagiarism which means utilizing some other's work, and not giving them the credit for
their work
 Grade subjectivism refers to an educator who use unfair way to assign grades to students.
 Research fraud means managing research in a way which is discrepant with recognized
moral principle and faithness, covering outcomes that are incorrect or announcing results
in a way that false results is outreached by researcher at their academic writing.
 Publication dishonesty, refers to writing materials in a way where facts, judgements or
opinions get misrepresented by making false claims by misleading informations or
misinterpreting in research reports.
 Administrative misconduct, means making wrong or unethical decisions regarded to
students work. Where faculty or policy that failed or contradict sound academic ethics
and practices in the university or college.

Thus, academic integrity is significant in order to understand the behaviour of student in
academic level whether university of or in higher school as it help instructors pool new ideas. It
also important as it help students to work with new thought an innovative idea and also change
their behavioural concept. This concept of academic integrity is also critical for students and for
teachers of university because it will help in maintaining academic honesty and make more
authentic effort for completing assigned work by students (Bertram Gallant, 2017).
A discussing the value of academic integrity in higher education
Academic integrity is essential for students, university and most importantly for growing
own ideas. Following are described in regarding mentioned area where it is important:
For Institutions: The method by which students and teachers learn in university and
activity impacts how others perspective work towards Institutions (Bretag, 2018). Therefore
University have to be pursuant and responsible for provided regulation for their offered course of
study and evaluation, so that the people can have assurance in the citizen who qualify with
authentic grades. That's why the Establishment takes the matter of scholastic wrongdoing on
serious note.
For Student: It's essential for student to give the top-grade opportunity of success by
working own evaluation tasks with the trustworthy and good ethical point of view. And
importance get more critical as student must avoid consequences of such unethical practising as
teachers have provided authority to fail student for such practices in their assignment or even can
be asked to leave the establishment When student were investing their time and attempt in
learning for particular grade, which going to be their way towards success in student's career in

establishment level will set the base for their own professional understanding and activity

with some other people’s opinion and investigating into their personal work and admit them
correctly which shows that they have understood the material after reading them. It also put

University. (2016) Academic integrity is essential because devious behaviour erode student
acquisition and the believability also of the Institution. Advanced standards of academic integrity
protect student prestige, shows well on the university and thus it will be added with the well-

being of the community. Whereas, breach in educational integrity belittle student, establishment
and society faith in academic attempt.
Discuss the implications of academic misconduct
A person with integrity, a moral that reflects when someone is faithful and responsible
For pupils, their individual morals and belief reflect their personality and quality (Denisova-
Schmidt, 2017). At university, maintaining academic integrity while earn degree that reflect
student's academic accomplishments. Majority evident outcome of breaching of academic
integrity are the fines from educational institution for offending students. Other consequences are
also there such as:
 Social consequences. Moralistic consequences of cheating which devaluate the hard
work done by student and hence loss of unity and justice .The usual nature of escaping
and those who escape in their scholarly field and believe that they can get away such
misconduct or might continue to cheat in their projects in future maybe with their family
and also in their other side of life. However in the long run, this point of view could be
harmful not only to the cheater, but others can get affected by their actions.
 Exploitation of intellectual property rights- Educational dishonesty like; piracy is also
equal to thieving of other's place (Sotiriadou and et . al., 2020). An original work,
whether it can be idea, design, writing tones, etc. made by someone else act like money
for that person who created that work and when another person use it without consent or
permission from original creator of the content then it considered as loss of author's
intellectual property and recognition.
 Legal consequence. For such dishonesty in work the university's faculty may take legal
actions against student. If any student cheat, plagiarize, falsify their data in their assign
project, report or research the sponsors may take steps against the university. These steps
include penalties, loss of coming projects to the institution or legal proceeding .These
types of act may have sincere consequences, as they not only damage the honour of the
university, but also results in failure of possibilities for remaining students in the future.
 Educational consequence- Students who falsify in their academics, the teacher must put
him/her under law action for that student rather than teaching them. The educational
ambiance like holding back the teachers spirit and degrading their power for more
cultivable student/teacher communication. In the end, this will lead to declining in the

moral of all involve parties, accompanying with the standards of education. Therefore,
educational misconduct have long-term social consequences.

2.
Difficulties faced while building the game:
 At initial stage when game was introduce before students they were not clear with the
purpose of the game. Since the game is newly developed and particularly designed for
student to familiarise them with academic misconduct.
 Game was design under-simplification, where not enough consideration fail the what is
the purpose of the game and also using of excessive types of packages and containing
different words game and cards which in turn make the scenario complex as to be
effectively unplayable (Top 5 Challenges in Mobile Game Development. 2017). Where
student had to spend more time in learning the rules of the game instead playing.
 One of the big challenge encountered in game implementation was in balancing between
how funny the game is and how educational it should be (Hughes, 2019). Creating
studying objectives from game and its scheming which need to be optical appealing game
which can help in balancing things for students thus,it can help students on right path.
 For developing the game it is sometimes challenging to do research and evaluation task
but without it developer may face not interesting facts in the game and may bore the
audience. For instance, for developing educational game for student must need to have
good storyline to establish connection with real case scenario.
 Another problem face is feature creep, which means where situation arise where the game
get concentrated with ideas and features. This happens if the focus deviates from the core
objectives and from target market (mobileappdesign. 2019). This problem arise while
developing game in mobile phones.
Steps to be taken to avoid Difficulty: To avoid such difficulties developer need to have proper
strategies before proceed with game. Need to have proper analysing of the target group which is,
student and also the subject before developing the game. Since game is going to play on mobile

screen many factors related with software functions needs to be taken care. Hence all the
objectives need to be clear and must be align with the game features.
Reflect the abilities you have learned this academic year and indicate those emphasized in
producing your game
While developing this game many important factors were researched and I personally
gained knowledge from them. I came to my my learning style and efficient, authentic research
methods to produce any project report in academic year at university. I feel while developing this
game as valuable as this allow me to have good grasp over the subject which is very significant
to learn not because of academic level but also for life. While doing intense research, I came
through different blogs and different university's websites where they have beautifully describe
many disadvantages of unethical academic misconducting. The overall project provided an
opportunity to learn about academic integrity and its importance at all level of life. Throughout
higher education of student, it is essential for students to learn academic integrity , promote and
re-asserted through all level capabilities ,organization policy and activity in order to be authentic
with informations that have used while doing any particular project or conducting research. From
now then it is understood that academic integrity defines “acting with values of faith, loyalty,
justice, respect and duty while learning, researching and also for teaching . It is essential to all,
which includes; students, teachers, seeker and all personnel to act with loyal way, must be
accountable or answerable for their own activities and must reflect equity in every part of their
activity” (Exemplary Academic Integrity Project. 2013). The academic year was full of learning
opportunities right from the day started at the university and till this project this have flourished
me with knowledge and at the end of this project have guide lot more about plagiarism and other
important aspects related with academic field. Also the game while developing many problems
occur and those who become part of it were also being supported and help with this project for
its successful completion.
Conclusion
From above report it can be summarise that academic integrity is necessary while making
any project, research which require informations from different sources. Since report founding
can not be drawn individually. Academic integrity at educational level reflect through the
student's life as when they grow up and this will have its actual application in their personal life.

When dishonesty found at base level that is during education, where faculty help them to find
them out and try to teach student academy integration and its value for their rest of life do matter.
It is significantly duty of the teachers as well to establish such value and develop moral
among students as well. Because this is only base, on the basis of that future is made for student.
