1VALUES IN EDUCATION
Introduction
The teaching of the children of any community is a challenging task since it does not only
include the impartation of knowledge from the teachers to the students. Rather, it is a multi-
dimensional approach which involves the dissemination of important values and cultures also. In
this regard, the paper would look in to the values which are imbibed by the teachers and
professionals themselves for imparting education.
Values which will affect my work with children
Being an educator at the primary level of an educational institution, I have to deal with
children for majority portion of my day. During this time, there are certain guidelines which I try
to follow. I understand that a child is primarily raised in his or her own home and therefore, the
extent of influence of the parental values would be huge. In this context, I try to hold a monthly
meeting with the parents of the children I am engaged with so as to better understand the
environment in which such children grow and develop.
I always take a friendly and amicable step with the children while trying to help them to
resolve any problems which they might face. It needs to be understood that a child is not capable
of rationalization unless they are guided by their elders and teachers.
Comparison of my values with the values stated in the National Association for the
Education of Young Children
The National Association for the Education of Young Children states certain core values
which are required to be followed and adhered to by the educators and the professionals involved
in the educational sector ("NAEYC", 2020). In this context, it lays down that an educator should
try to understand the environment of the homes from where the students come ("NAEYC",

2020). This would lead to the understanding of their personality. This value is strongly adhered
to by me as can be seen from the monthly meetings on a regular basis that I arrange with the
parents of the children who are my responsibility (Chambers & Sandford, 2019).
Comparison of my values with the values stated in the CEC Special Education Professional
Ethical Principles
The CEC Special Education Professional Ethical Principles also lays down certain values which
needs to be adhered to by the educators and the professionals who are involved in the field of
education ("Ethical Principles & Practice Standards", 2020). One of the core values enunciated is
that of the promotion of interactive participation of the students ("Ethical Principles & Practice
Standards", 2020). This value is adhered to by me as I encourage the students to ask me any
doubts or questions they may have with regard to the subject being taught to them (Hyland,
2019).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be observed that there is a need on every teacher and professional to
imbibe within themselves a frame work of values which would guide their working. Such
principles should align by the nationally designed documents which try to ensure the
establishment of a facilitating environment.
