Impact of new GDPR regulation for GP Practices
GDPR is that regulation which is protected under EU law on the privacy and data protection
of individual citizen of EU and European Economic Area (EEA). Its updated version came into
effect from 25 May 2018 which includes how the new law and rules will be related with
collecting and processing personal data. The Information Commissioner Office and
Information Governance Alliance also published many guidance and regulation for clarifying
how all healthcare organisation could be applied in healthcare organisation. There could be
many uncertainties which could be noted for certain aspect of GDPR with new data
protection law that need to be applied within healthcare sector. It is very much important
that all GP is using practicing or providing service commissioned with help of NHS England
are considered as the public authorities which are required to be appointed as Data
Protection Officer (DPO). GDPR is all set for rules which are designed for giving citizen of EU
for more control over their personal data with use of privacy. The GP should provide their
patients with retention period for their data, to whom data will be shared and then explaining
them their lawful or necessary purpose as well for storing of data.
