CE 1.2 Background of this Project work
CE 1.2.1 Basic Characteristics of the Project
The main objective of developing urban transportation is changing with the
significant notion of overall city expansion. Proper transference has eventually played an
important role in evaluating mankind in the world. Sustainable transference could be obtained
after connecting technology with transportation. In this project, I have identified the benefits
of up gradation of the current approach of public transportations in the region called Greater
Geelong with the system of Bus Rapid Transit. I became successful in checking the proper
incorporation of the BRT networks with the current facilities and resources and hence
flexibility was optimized for creating the ever growing transport requirements of the localized
commuter. The present trend of this mass transit utilization have been extremely helpful for
developing the best possible routes of BRT in the region of Greater Geelong. I have prepared
a detailed evaluation of considering proper planning, construction and execution of the BRT
infrastructures and even the support staff handling every transit machinery as well as
coordination of the ground staff. Therefore in this work, I have mentioned about the

advantages of updating the current approach of the public transference at the region called
Greater Geelong with BRT systems.
CE 1.2.2 Developed Objectives for the project work
Different technologies such as real time tracking, priority based traffic signalling, off
board ticket purchasing are being used for making the project of BRT system an efficient one
after linking transportation with intelligent transportation system. During successful
implementation of this specific project, I have made the work a sustainable one by using
optimized resources. The few developed objectives of the project are:
 To use ITS for making conveyance easier, safer and more supportable for the
passengers.
 To identify the advantages of updating the current approach of the public transference
at the region called Greater Geelong with BRT systems.
 To check for the better flexibility and enhancement of the public transportation
system.
 To perform a cost planning analysis for identification of the fact that whether BRT
system would be eventually feasible.
 To identify the advantages of integration of the ITS with the mass public
transportation for the entire city.
 To check whether I am able to gain utmost efficiency and effectiveness in the most
significant method.
CE 1.2.3 My working area in this project work
Being the most successful project developer, it was extremely easy for me to identify
the advantages of Bus Rapid Transit system. As this was a research project, I had to research
about the entire city and system of transit system in the beginning and hence better

effectiveness was gained without much complexity. Moreover, I have executed several
similar projects related to research works on roads and other transportation systems; hence it
was extremely easier for me to complete the work in the most effective manner. Having
intense knowledge on structural engineering, I have paid an extra attention to every
calculation and evaluation of this project, so that the project becomes a successfully one.

CE 1.2.5 My major responsibilities and duties throughout the work
To finish this work of Bus Rapid Transit system successfully, my first duty was to
complete the research work properly. I have learnt that a major development that has taken
place in transportation system, which is a bus based public transport system. It comprises of
the major flexibility of different buses as well as the major ability of metro networks and

lighter rail network. The distinct bus eventually travels in the most limited lanes that are
intended for the BRT bus, operating at high speed with higher customer holding capacity than
the normalized PTV bus in the region of Geelong. I even had to identify the major advantages
for the successful up gradation of the current approach of the public transference at the region
called Greater Geelong with BRT systems. Moreover, I had to utilize ITS to make the entire
process of transportation easier and more sustainable for the passengers. I also checked for a
major enhancement and flexibility of the public transportation systems and then perform the
cost benefit analyses to identify the fact that whether this bus rapid transportation system is
highly feasible to the respective city or not. Finally, I had identified the major benefits of
proper integration of the ITS.
CE 1.3 Distinct Activities in this Work
CE 1.3.1 Comprehending the most Basic Theories Used in this Project work
I had taken up theoretical understanding of civil engineering and structural
engineering for ensuring maximum efficiency is achieved in this project of Identification of
Benefits in Greater Geelong with Bus Rapid Transit System. At first, I understood about the
entire concept of BRT bus properly, so that it becomes extremely easier for me to provide
better solutions in the work. I have learnt that the current buses, which PTV have been
working within the region called Geelong could eventually allow and could be licensed for
carrying 88 passengers. It even delivers proper result in the most recent days, however up
gradation is required for better effectiveness and efficiency of the work.
I checked that the integrations of these local resources as well as facilities into the
respective master plans subsequently increments the effectiveness of the plan for restricting
the rate of growth within the centralized region. Overall growth is to be channelized equally
in the entire city. Few of the effective systems of BRT have properly combined every existing

mode of conveyance such as railway station, bus stops as well as transportation facilities. I
had to compare the light rail, metro rail and BRT for investment capital and carrying
capacities.

I even had to use and integrate an ITS into the project for making it more sustainable
for the customers. The procedure of transition was extremely absurd for liberating the
complete project work without any type of data about the fact that it has made it quite harder
for the passengers for getting used to the facts.

CE 1.3.2 My main Engineering skills or knowledge that are applied in the work
For completing the work, I had used my knowledge and skills of civil engineering.
My core knowledge about bus rapid transit system, Public Transportation Victoria and
intelligent transportation system were also applied here. Moreover, my knowledge for cost
benefit analysis was also utilized in this project.
CE 1.3.3 Execution of the work and main Tasks Completed in this work
I have executed this work after considering few distinct methodologies and methods
to understand the consequences of BRT. These consequences are dependent on the
availability of raw materials and integration level for achieving the optimum efficiency. I was
successful in identifying the fact that BRT system is highly advantageous for this city as well
as the advantages for accepting ITL into the network. I have divided the project into several
tasks and stages with distinct milestones for achieving accurate results. I had to prepare a
detailed report as well as estimation regarding the building of the full scale projects after
inclusion of these on road creations such as bus shelter, terminals and supporting staff office

for mapping out a proper transition plan from their existing approach for mass public
transportations to BRT system. After researching on the actual statistics, I got the following

The cost benefit analysis comprised of several milestones while achieving the final
result of the respective cost analysis.
CE 1.3.4 Identified issue with its solution
1.3.4.1 Issue Identified in this project
The main issue that I have to face was for the improper integration of the bus rapid
transit system network with the subsequent existing resources as well as the lack of support,
provided by the technical difficulties in the infrastructure. It was a real time issue faced in the
issue and delays occurred due to such issue.
1.3.4.2 Accurate Solution to the identified Technical Difficulty
After again checking this issue, I understood that I have to provide proper solution to
eradicate the issue. I had to take help from the group leader and with his help, I was able to
eliminate this issue. I checked that in the cities in Latin America, these lanes of BRT were
exclusive for the respective buse.

CE 1.3.5 Major Plan made to provide innovative and even creative works
I sub divided my work into different stages, so that execution becomes much easier
after utilizing a proper methodology. Every step in my proposed methodology was being
checked and approved by the supervisor.
CE 1.3.6 Work Collaborations
I had to collaborate with the project engineers and workers to understand the progress
of the work. Since, I had to find out about the advantages, I focused on collecting data from
the most reliable sources.
CE 1.4 Overall Reviewing of the Project
CE 1.4.1 Overview of this Project
I had successfully executed the project by identifying the advantages of BRT system
in Geelong. I was able to identify the flexibility and capacity of the most sustainable solution
with proper coordination within several departments. I have also identified the advantages
that would be gained by integration of ITS in the project.
CE 1.4.2 My Major Contribution to this work
As I was the project developer, my main contribution was to complete the cost benefit
analysis for this work. I even did complete research on ITS and BRT buses. Moreover, the
issue was also eradicated properly.
