ABOUT THE EVENT
The learning event was conducted on 26th March, 2020. It was conducted by the Canadian Centre
for Diversity and Inclusion, under the guidance of Jill Chesley and Kiersten Mohr. The event
was hosted by Michael Bach. The main idea behind the webinar event was to discuss about the
problem of gender diversity (“CCDI – Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion”, 2020).
The problem inducted in the event focussed on the challenges faced by the business employees
in a workplace. Decades have passed since, gender has been an issue in the society for it has
invokes a sense of equality and diversity in the societal regime. Today, the business companies
have achieved success internationally and have a well defined inclusive structure for attaching all
the genders to the team for creating an effectively working economy.
While attending the event, it helped in understanding various aspects of society which are
affected by the mere gender bias created in a workplace. They include values and behaviour
towards people, relationships created in this course, ethics and laws governing the society,
people's view in the organisational setting and historical perspectives to the problem.
The event also discussed about the problem of less women leaders in top business management
as compared to men. Although, there is a less percentage of women willing to work as top
respondents than men, but the rate of willingness is more in women than men.
THE SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
‘Feminist’ theory of sociology can be connected to this event. The feminist theory of sociology
deals with the idea that men and women should have equal political rights, legal rights, sexual
autonomy and self determination. It depicts a social movement that advocates for political,
economic and social equality between men and women.
Feminist theory uses a conflict approach for examining the reinforcement of inequalities and
gender roles, highlighting battery are equal role in maintaining operation of the women.
Feminism focuses on patriarchal theory as a power system which organises society into a
complex relationship based on male supremacy and assertion. When talking about feminist
perspective there are various forms of oppression that can be classified intersectionally.

THE MACRO PICTURE
In an organisational setup, These can be classified as sexism racism and classism. Together, they
form a discrimination intersect which stops gender diversity in a workplace. This theory was
highlighted by Kimberly Krenshaw. It also draws attention to the various ways in which a
woman face different forms of discrimination in working class who too additionally have to fight
against class oppression and racism (Gonsiorek, 2014).
The society as a whole, will have to work on the lines of gender equality and inclusive working
in a workplace so as to create a gender equal society as a whole. Diversity leads to the
accumulation of better resources and ideas in a society .
The why's that can be attained by focussing gender diversity as discussed in the webinar are as
follows-
A mix of equal gender perform better than teams dominated by males. Gender diversity does not
mean than a company must focus on creating a 50-50 share for men and women, but, it means
that even at higher positions, female correspondents must be given equal opportunities t prove
themselves. Fair representation means hiring the best person available for the open position.
Looking at the bigger view, gender diversity can help in improving the financial performance of
a workforce, broaden the customer base of a workplace society, improves problem solving
techniques in teams and allows companies to recruit in a wider base.
REFLECT
Learning events in general are strategized way of spreading knowledge and awareness to thee
public. The particular learning event attended by me in my course has helped me in improving
reception and imitation of my theoretical knowledge. It has helped me to explore within the
practical suite of a workplace while talking about gender diversity. As a student of sociology, the
feminist perspective learnt in my course work can be easily implied to thee topic discussed in the
event. Gender diversity is an important aspect of society which needs to be discussed and
improved in order to create an inclusive workplace and developed form of society.
The event has helped me better, by observing the practical representation and simulation models.
The reception of content in thee form of video and audio has helped in better communication.

The instructors helped in nourishing my interest in sociology and its perspectives. It has also
developed a curiosity in the subject, which has retained even after the event.
