INTRODUCTION
Gender discrimination describes the situation in which people are treated differently
simply because they are male or female, rather than on the basis of their individual skills or
capabilities. This report gives an essay about the topic of gender discrimination and how it has
affected the lives of people. Gender inequality has been a concern from long ago and this
emerged with increasing attention people gave about it. Many people are there in history who
fought for gender inequality and one among them is Susan B. Anthony. She was an American
social reformer and Women right activist. She belonged to a family which was passionate for
social reforms. She was women right activist and her family also fought against pro-slavery
forces. One of the reason she was aware of such issues was that in her family girls and boys were
taught similar values and this is one of the reason that she later fought against gender inequality.

Meaning of gender and inequalities
Gender is the difference between male and female and this is mainly based on social and
cultural differences between them rather than biological. This is also considered with range of
characteristics pertaining between masculinity and femininity. Inequality refers to lack of
equality (Scott, 2017). Gender inequality refers to context in which distribution of opportunities
and favors differ on the basis of gender. This means that one gender in the society is availed
more opportunities and favors than other. This mainly considers that man and women are not
equal and this significantly affects their overall living experience and almost all areas of life.

Socially constructed theory of gender is a theory of feminism and sociology of cultural
origins. This theory specially stipulates that gender roles are an status that is achieved in a social
environment, these roles implicitly and explicitly categorize people and encourage social
behaviors. This theory is based on the belief that understanding of people of reality is partially
socially situated and gender is a social identity that is required to be contextualized. Behavior of

Since the last 40 to 50 years women has started to get freedom and the idea of them for aiming
and pursuing their goals is born. There used to be a dominance of men which is now fading and
the gap of equal pay between both the genders is also filling up. Other than the aim in career and
achievements in life there are other restrictions that has also been lifted such as maintaining the
balance of emotional equity. Not only the role of women but role of men also used to be different
as earlier it was mandatory that men had to go outside and earn the bread for the family. Other
than this they were not allowed to reveal their emotions and also taught to be act tough. But now
with the change in time self awareness has increased and the traditions and stereotypes are not
being followed. Men and women make preferences according to their suitability.

Gender discrimination is a violation of common civil rights and there are many forms of
it such as discrimination in pregnancy, sexual harassment, discrimination on the basis of
education, equal pay cut discrimination and discrimination in employment. Susan B Anthony and

The Equality Act 2010 states that all of the issues related to gender discrimination and activities

which helps them to fight against these issues. These laws also have their impact which can
affect the outcome of the business and affect the image of the company in the market. If the
company has any role in encouraging the activities of gender discrimination then certainly they
will loose their productivity as they would have to focus on settling the case. Also the rate of
employee turnover will increase and make the environment of work hostile which will disrupt
the flow of work. There were not many laws when Susan B Anthony were supporting people
against these measures.
