IMPACT OF GENDER INEQUALITY IN SOCIETY 2
Impact of Gender Inequality in Society
Introduction
Gender inequality, also known as gender disparity or gender discrimination is the unfair
rights between male and female based on varied gender roles, which cause unequal treatment
in life. Society is expected to have peace, unity, and be together because of existing good
morals as well as traditions. However, gender inequality is an issue that has been debated for
years. It would not be recognized as such a serious issue if it did not create many difficulties
in people’s well-being in society. Therefore, there is a need to understand the various effects
of gender discrimination in a society that, if well looked at, can help avert this problem.
Effects of Gender Inequality in Society
Evidence of gender disparity at workplaces exists. Both men and women experience this
issue in every aspect of work. Within the labor market, individuals experience discrimination
whereby some of them work on a full-time basis, whereas others on a part-time basis. Such
inequality is linked to substantial adverse impacts on income as well as economic progression
(Tetlow, 2018). In this case, men and women with part-time employment earn less than those
working on a full-time basis. Accordingly, alleviating poverty can be an uphill task to achieve
(Institute of Development Studies, n.d.)
Deterioration of rights and benefits at workplaces reveals that women suffer in silence
while the men enjoy. Evidence shows that about 25 percent, one in four women, have a lesser
income than men who do similar work. Similarly, nearly 5 percent of working men have
reported earning less than their colleagues doing the same job (Parker & Funk, 2017). This
situation means that women will experience disparity and consequently erode their
production since women and men can handle similar tasks. However, if treated
discriminatively, various women will stop working and look for alternative means of

generating income, which will mean reduced production, and worsening of situations like
poverty.
Denying women adequate education relative to men is proof of gender disparity.
Different societies believe that the destiny of women is defined by staying at home, as well as
taking care of their families (Mason, 2010). Most women are disallowed or discontinued
from finishing their schooling. The consequences of not educating women just as men are
means that women are unlikely going to take care of their families in full capacity, and
subsequently increase risks of premature death and adverse health outcomes (like
reproductive health).
Governance skills are considered the greatest among men relative to women,
specifically in the political arena. However, this should not be the case in this century. The
reasoning is that some men have destroyed societies through poor leadership, and women
should not observe such problems occurring as they also have similar abilities. Working
together, both women and men can make it easy to building respect besides equal society
(UNESCO, 2018).
Conclusion
Gender inequality causes severe consequences in society. Because of the
issue, men and women have experienced disproportionate adverse implications, including
reduced income and slow economic progression; poor health outcomes reduced productivity;
and poor leadership and governance. In these consequences, women are greatly affected.
Society's prosperity requires that gender equality is averted, and women and men respect and
love each other in equal measure.
