GENDER ROLES 1
Change in gender role
Gender roles are set of duties assigned to different people of society on the bases of their
behaviour, values, attitude and their believe system. Majorly gender roles are influenced by
family, media, culture and surroundings. Stereotype gender role prescribe for women are of
homemaker, mother, wife and for men are of breadwinner, head authority of family (Planned
Parenthood, 2018).
But today, the family structure and gender roles are changed very much, the gap between
different genders has filled up. Every member of the family lives together, takes decision,
express their opinion openly.
In modern social structure both men and women are having equal rights, status and
responsibility. Both work and earn for family and enjoy financial independence. This is a
sudden change in the male dominating society which disturbs husbands as they lose their
authority in the family. People who have observed in their families, father as a supreme
authority and mother just doing households, they may expect the same will happen when they
start their own families. The equal status can put families in trouble. If changes are not
accepted and appreciated by partners there is a possibility they might get separated.
There is one big issue arise with Change in gender role, now both parents are busy in working
to meet demands of life. And their children are left at home with the nannies and caretakers.
This is building a huge gap between parents and children.
The change in gender roles brings positive change in lives of people. But a general fact says
that every change brings some pros and cons with it and gender role change also brings con
like insecurity in males (Australia & gender roles, 2018).
