Human society keeps on changing at a very rapid rate. In other words there are different people
living in different social conditions and these are all responsible for bringing about different
kinds of influences over human being. In other words the thought and preference pattern of
human beings age largely dependent on the social surroundings of people and the different other
social conditions. For an example if a child is give a very good, organized and also matured
upbringing then, he or she will grow up to be a calm and composed person who possesses a
rational attitude towards different incidents taking place around him. However on the other hand
if the child is being brought up in an atmosphere that is filled with the tensions and quarrels then
he might develop symptoms like anxiety and other such aspects
I have seen that even after the large scale education people are not being able to develop a sound
or organized mindset. They are the victims of social stereotyping and they have still not been
able to develop a proper mind set. This is evident from the gender biasness that is still present
among all the people of the society. However it is also seen that people are often unable to accept
others who are different from them. I have seen different people exhibiting different kinds of
mindset and attitude towards people who are try to set up some agendas differ from the age old
societal norms or ideologies.
It was during my high school time in the year 2008. I was always present in the English classes
and I use to enjoy the English classes because that year our teachers were usually teaching us the
chapters on gender biasness. I could relate the class chapter’s very well as there was a similar
incident taking place in my locality every day. I had a childhood friend names Sam who was
different than the other children of the locality. This is mainly because of the fact that his
preferences and his choice differed a lot than the rest of us. He used to pay with me and other
girls rather than going out to play with the other boys of the locality. This is because of the fact

that he used to enjoy the games like doll house rather than using the racing cars and other such
items that the boys usually enjoyed. However I saw that he was bullied by many other children
because of his preferences. In the initial times I as I started reading more about the gender
stereotypes and other such lessons in school. I realized that it is just the societal norms that have
been made by the society and imposed on others from times unknown. The society had
developed this rule that the color pink is for girls and the blue color is for boys. Apart from this
there are also other societal norms like girls must always be doing the household chores and boys
have to take the responsibility of doing the different chivalrous works like fighting, car racing
and others.
I remember that whenever Sam used to o out for playing in the field, people did not want to talk
to him and abandoned him as well. I felt really sad for him because he was good boy and was a
very god student. I knew him from a very long time and also wanted to make sure that he is able
to come into the mainstream of the society rather than staying away due to the fear of being
criticized
I discussed this whole issue with my father, who was working as a professor of English during
that time. I realized that this has really been of a great help because this enabled me to gather the
courage of raising my voce against such atrocities of society. My father was really very much
cooperative and he wanted to help me save my friend Sam. He arranged for a proper gathering at
our local auditorium where he called all the local people and also the members of Sam’s family.
Sam as afraid to attain this gathering and did not want to come out from his house. I ensured him
that he has not committed any fault and he will be able to gain the needed support and help once
he is able to conquer his fear and also step into the mainstream of society.

After trying a lot I was able to persuade him to come into the gathering. My father put up a small
and powerful documentary where he talked about the astronauts who have been able to break all
the gender stereotypes and achieve great heights. He showed the examples of women astronauts,
doctor’s engineers who have been able to challenge the social stereotypes and make sure that
they are establishing a proper position for themselves in the society against all odds.
On the other hand there were also examples of male figures that have been able to develop
themselves as dancers and also they have been able to make sure that no one is being able to
bully them for their choices. My cousin brother was also invited from USA who was working
there as a chef. His presence played a major role in the gathering. This is because of the fact that
he was a bright and most prominent example of breaking the societal age old norms. This is
because being a boy he had a great interest in cooking and was able to pursue his liking and
make a profession out of it. This was indeed a very strong point to ensure that people are able to
understand that they must always try to accept the fact that differences are essential and must be
appreciated by all. In order to make the people break her shell of conservative and age old
thinking they will have to accept people as they are.
Sam was then called upon stave and my father said that he is such a gifted student and is also
good in sports and many other activities. However all he needs is motivation and the zeal to be
able to move on in life. There is no issue in the fact that he likes to wear pink and finds a great
interest in playing with dolls or in all those activities that are usually done by the girls.
He is being bullied by everyone in the society and also he is not being able to carry on with his
normal course of living. This is because no one in the society is taking with him in a sound o
acceptable manner; even his family members are being bullied and also being neglected and

blamed for no reason. It is high time that all the people of the society must join hands together to
ensure that there is equality among people. If the elders are responsible enough then hey will be
able to make sure that they are raising their kids properly. If the issues of gender biasness are not
dealt with properly right from the grassroots level then they will take the shape of something evil
and worse in the near future. After this session things started changing gradually and people on
my locality changed their outlook. They were now able to understand that people must be given
equal rights and opportunities irrespective of their taste and their preferences. I remember that
after that day Sam was well accepted by all the people in the society and also they were able to
treat him the similar way in which they used to treat the other kids of the society.
I feel that all the people are special in their way and all have the equal rights to lead their lives as
per their choice. This is a social constraint that must be identified and also there must be
sufficient protests taking place. I was happy after this incident because Sam’s life was changed
and this helped in setting a proper example for the whole of the society.
