Introduction
The objective of the discussion forum is to make discussions about the Grand Ethiopian
Renaissance Dam. The issues regarding the complications of the project were put on the
roundtable by ICCPM. Also, the present discussion forum discusses the parameters that were
highlighted by ICCPM in the roundtable discussions.

Uncertainty
It becomes difficult of water complex system for the project for the better outcomes but not has an
idea that to predict the major impact and the changing of the supply of water in short the uncertainty
describe the disputes for the water to be more complex. The ICCM said that on the round tables that
this disputes for the water is right and it gives an impact on the different region that is situated
downstream to GERD dam. The main reason for this uncertainty is the shaky interactions between
human beings and the natural system. Many foreign countries show interest in investing in the
resources on the region of Blue Nile River. Also, there are some countries who want this place (Nile
region) and also the promise for feeding the population. The stakeholders are increases the problems
through this type of interest and it gives rise to other variables and the uncertainty level get increases
for the management of the water from other downstream countries (Gebreluel, 2014).
Ambiguity
There may be several reasons due to which some major issues are raised during the project of
GERD dam and out of these issue three are to be discussed here:
Construction costs and maintenance: the downstream countries like Egypt and Sudan are
suffering from a shortfall of the water and on these conditions making the dam is the wrong
decision. The various stakeholders are not able to make the strategy that is more effective and
this GERD dam becomes the big reason for the conflict between countries.
Structural conditions: the infrastructure of the GERD dam is completed and they use the
Roller Compacted Concrete because in making the dam with RCC concrete then there are no
regulations on the limit of height. The many of the engineers are always try to make this RCC
dam on the right place like the place where there is no shaking of the rocks and also any other
faults because the maintenance of the RCC dam has too expensive and any type of calamity
happens then it will definitely affect the cost (Di, 2013).
Changes in the Environment: the GERD dam was made before finding the overall range of
the impacts that are caused to other countries, due to this the making of this dam may result
in the positive and also the negative effects through conditions of the environment. The
environmental effect the other country too which is due to the Blue Nile River basins.

Variables that are linked with the GERD dam
Following are the variables that are associated with the GERD dam on the water conflict,
political system, climate change and many more.
Water conflicts: these conflicts were raised due to the occurring in the open and also in the
changing environment and it also includes stakeholders and other interactions that try to
make this project more complex.
Political system: some of the major challenges in the system of the project is to manage the
political system ICCM has told this on the roundtables about the influence of politics.
Change in the climate: the change in the climate also makes the issue on the GERD dam and
also there is an interference of the intergovernmental panel (Yihdego, et. al., 2017).
Dynamics
The implication on the riparian because of the hydropower construction in the foot of the dam
on the Blue Nile River that is in the upstream and situated at the border of Sudan, this dam
gives the implications when this dam goes to be filled and it flows in the downstream and
also in Egypt.
The GERD dam deals with the challenges and also with the opportunity as the opportunity it
offers some benefits to the region of the hydropower station and also provides management
of the water. The issue of water was raised on the international level because after the
construction of the dam the conflict comes and the disputes with taking the issue of water is
legal.
Due to the construction of the dam, the downstream countries to the river get in difficulties
and they raise this issue on the international level.
Social Structure and interrelationships
Social structure refers to the management or implementation of things or equipment to make
social life easier. The current society needs to have some implications and benefits which
helps to make life easier. The things which can take other the advantages of social cause are
related to the construction, filter, and implementation of good and reliable things. The major
concern while constructing the valuable assets this is most necessary to make the
determination about the appropriate and manageable use of them in terms of human benefits
and collaboration. The social structure not only includes the human behavior apart from that

it interlinks with the different changes and improvements of the present world entities. It can
be understood by the example of GERD dam that was constructed to benefit the country in a
positive manner. Another advantage of GERD dam was that it helped in power generation as
well as the engineers had constructed it in a way to make the power supply ( Berndtsson, et.
al., 2017). The major purpose to build the dam was to value the current and future generation.

Conclusion
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project is the project with many conflicts and issues that are
raised because of the water war between countries. This project is located 500 km to the northwest of
the Ababa region along the Blue Nile River. The GERD dam has become the largest dam in Africa.
The major issues and the complexity of the project are discussed in the above report.
