Introduction
Self analysis or reflective analysis is the way of analysing own strengths and weakness
well in performing any task to identify where a individual require to improve their skills and
talents and where he can utilize his strengths appropriate for their career growth. PDP is a
module which is used to convert weak skills into strengthening skills by analysing actions and
time frames to achieve their goal of improving weak skills. Gibbs model is also used for self
analysis where a individual have to analyse a situation which they have faced in their academic
time or professional time and then analyse their learnings from that particular situation
(Narisetty, Shen and He, 2018). Hence, personal reflection plays an important role in the
development of personal and professional skills within an individual. The following report
covers Gibbs module to analyse self skills.

Stage 1- Description
This is the stage where individual have to discuss in detail about the situation which he
had faced recently (Bitencourt-Ferreira and de Azevedo, 2018). It answer few questions such as
what happen?, where it happens? and many others.
I am a ongoing university student where I attend all classes of my courses which I have
opted. I like to attend regular classes of the subject of employability and study skills where
teachers provide us various kinds of theoretical and practical knowledge on topics such as
communication skill, time management skill, research skill and many others. Here, my teacher
provide me some projects to analyse my practical skills like communication skill, research skill
and many others. Hence, a group activity was held few days back in my class where I have been
opted as a leader. Teacher asked us to prepare a group report on “ analysing essential skills for
professional development”. Hence, to conduct this project we are given a time frame of 20 days
and me and my team of 8 students have divided the task effectively and start communicating
with professional people well to analyse what are the improvement in their skills they have
noticed during their professional career. We have communicate with 25 people and collect data
data and now I have given main role to manage my team work effectively to sort out data and
prepare report with appropriate structure and format. While performing this project I have faced

various challenges as well as support from external people. I have deal with all issues well and
submitted project on time before due date.
Stage 2- Feelings
This is the stage where a individual discuss about the feelings and thoughts which they
are facing as an experience of their situation (Cheung and Bansal, 2017).
I am feeling good to perform leadership role to manage my group effectively and
completing the goal of team. During the situation I felt that I can perform leadership quality
where I can manage my team effectively. When my teacher asked to complete the project then I
was feeling little nervous and unconfident that how I can handle the team of 8 people effectively
to complete the project within 20 days but when we have completed the project and submitted it
on time than I felt confident and motivated toward by team working skill and other essential
skills. In context of my team members, I felt that few members are satisfied with my leadership
skills to handle the teamwork and some may dissatisfied due to conflicts and distribution of work
effectively. Hence, in context of my teacher, her response, reaction and behaviour toward our
project was good when she review the project and analyse which work is done by whom at what
ways. Hence, I felt that my teacher is going to provide good marks to me and my whole team.
Stage 3- Evaluation
This stage will describe positive and negative aspect of situation and analyse what had
worked and what did not worked in the situation (Cheng and et. al., 2020).
According to my situation I gain both positive experience as well as negative experience
to complete this project. The good thing about my situation is that I have analysed what all are
my strength skills and what all are my weak skills so that I can focus more to improve my weak
skills. On the other hand, I get to know that I was ineffective in some areas of managing my team
such as I am ineffective to perform computer tasks due to my lack of ICT and computer skills.
Some positive aspect of situation is that I get to know about my effective leadership and
management skill to handle a team. Secondly, my communication and problem solving skills are
also helpful to highlight my strengths. I supposed to analyse issues well and find out the factors
impacting the issue than I provide those solutions which help to mitigate the issue from root so
that the same challenge will not arise again.

This is the stage where a individual have chance to analyse what actually happens.
Extracting meaning of the situation is called analysis in Gibbs model (Pan and et. al., 2018).
Here, individual search the answers of the question that why things go well and do not go well.
According to my situation, some of the things go well such as conflicts are getting
resolved, resources are managed well and at the end the outcome is arrive which is completion of
project on time. This things went well due to efficiency of my team and easy and effective flow
of communication. Here, my effective communication skill plays an important role in completing
our project. I have clear the mission and vision of creating team. I shared effective data to my
team and communicate well to clear their doubts. I also supposed to listen their point of views
also and make effective strategies to accomplish the work. On the other thing, I am unable to
measure the performance of my team due to lack of computer skills and ICT skills. I am unable
to analyse the effective use of digital gadgets and due to this I have to face many issues. The
sense which I can make from the situation is that an individual can analyse their strong and weak
skills by converting their plans and imagination into actions. I analysed it because earlier I was
unable to know about my effective communication and team management skill but when I was
given task to manage a team and accomplish the team target then I get to know my strong and
weak skills.
Stage 5- Conclusions
Here, a individual analyse what they have learned and what they are unable to learn from
the situation (Gibbs and et. al., 2021).
I have analysed some of my skills get enhanced by performing this group activity and
some of the skills I failed to gain effectively. I have learn communication skill by the following
situation because to analyse the preference of professional individuals about their professional
skill I had communicated with more than 10 professional and by communicating them I observe
their way of talking, their personality and many others. This will help me to enhance my
communication skill. Secondly, I convey my observations effectively to my team members so
that they will analyse whether the information is essential for the part of their task or not in the
project. I also learned effective team working and management skills by distributing all tasks and
responsibilities to my team members according to their strengths and abilities. I have also
developed problem solving skill my resolving the conflicts from the team. In case to handle the
situation better I must focus on my ICT and research skills which are my weaknesses.

Stage 6- Action Plan
This is the situation which help to analyse what could be done better in case the same
situation will arise again in future (Bogachev and Rozikov, 2019). Here, individual will decide
whether they need to act differently or similarly in case the same situation arise again in future.
In case the same situation occur again in future and I have assigned a team again to
manage effectively then I would like to enhance my ICT skills and wants to learn more about
effective digital mediums and their usage so that I can measure the performance of my team
effectively with digital performance index. Secondly, I would also like to develop my research
skills well so that I can conduct marketing research and collect useful information for my tasks.
There are few ways to develop my required skills. For example, I can develop my ICT skills by
taking coaching and reading more about ICT usage in corporate. I can make sure that I will act
differently next time in case I face same situation again in future. I can self analysis my
performance and make record of the performance in written manner so that I can review my own
performance next time if same situation arise again to identify which actions can impact positive
to achieve goal of company and which actions can affect negative to my overall performance.
Conclusion
From the above information it is concluded reflective analysis is one of the most effective
way of analysing own strong and weak skills. This will help a individual to effectively manage
well to convert their weak skills into their strong skills. It is also concluded that Gibbs model is
used to analyse specific situation and the ways in which a individual will perform in that
situation. There are six stages in this model like Description where a individual will define the
situation, Feelings where a situation will analyse how he feel before and after the situation,
Evaluation which covers positive and negative aspects of situation. Beside this, it also have
Analysis stage where a individual analyse why the situation occurs, Conclusion is the stage
where individual analyse their actual learnings from the situation and at the end Action Plan will
help to analyse what differently done in case same situation occur again.
