3PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Introduction
Project management plan is considered as one formal document that will define how project will
be monitored, executed and controlled. This is ideally controlled by the project manager who is
in charge of the project to be implemented with following inputs and the stakeholders involved.
The project task is assessed on the globalisation theme, which accounts on the positive, cultural
and ethical impact on diverse business functions. It shows that globalisation has led to the rise of
competition, and found a financial shift from developing to the emerging economies. The phase
of this project will be identified on a given theme where the Smartphone Company Gionee’s
Director has appointed project manager for launching their new Dual Screen Smartphone during
mid March. The purpose of the product launch is done to hold new customer base across UK, so
that it can find competitive edge over other competitors like Nubia. The project plan will be
devised by a Project Plan covering time, cost, quality, WBS and Gantt chart. Further, a small-
scale survey and interview will also be carried out to analyse how successful will be the product
in the ongoing market.
Activity 1 (LO1): Research Project Management Plan
P1: Project Aim and Objectives
For implementing a project, it is permissible that the project manager has to deal with some key
adjustments to find a correct deviation. The project manager has to spend a large amount of time
to ensure a baseline, which would analyse the key capabilities for the project (Alias et al. 2014).
Now, for any kind of project to find its success rate, it is imperative to define the aims and
objectives, so that with the necessary elements like time, cost, quality, schedule and milestones, a
proper breakdown can be attained. Besides, all the identified stakeholders, along their needs
should be identified with the stated objectives (Too and Weaver, 2014). For this project, the role
of project manager of Gionee would be to launch the new Dual Screen Smartphone, which will
be a new revolution in the Smartphone market after Nubia.

4PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The aim of the research is to undertake a project plan to launch Dual screen Smartphone
of Gionee in order to receive high amount of sales from March 2019 onwards. The launch of
the phone will be done in a period of 3 days, from 23rd March to 26th March while the project
plan will be executed in a period of 25 days, starting from 2nd March. 2019.
Project Objectives:
To identify the objectives for this project plan, the project manager at first has described the key
features of the Smartphone because, just with the Dual Screen, most of the customers will not be
attracted (Phillips et al. 2012). The project manager has intended that the Smartphone will
feature a base of 6.26 inch FHD + 19:10 aspect ratio on front and secondary-inch 5.3 inch 4K+
Amole screen at back. The phone will also have a thickness of 7.9mm and will weight
approximately 171 grams. Further, the key feature of the Smrtphone will have 4000 Mah battery
and will have 42 Megapixel Semi-DSLR Camera fitted at the primary section. All these features
of the Smartphone will line up for the customers, to go on floors by March 2019.
To identify how promoting Gionee Dual screen Smartphone will be effective to
attain high amount of sales by 2019 March onwards.
To examine if the product in tested well, so that with low priced tag, it can compete
with rivals like Nubia
To analyse how Gionee Dual screen Smartphone can find competitive advantage, so
that it can find good market share in this year.
P2: Project Management Plan
Now, the key part of the Project management plan is that the Project manager with his team must
be dynamic, so that he is capable to make the product launch a success. This phase is where the
project manager has to act as a leader, so that he decides situations, and tackles risk factor, which
will certainly arise for sure (Meng, 2012). With effective communication and teambuilding
skills, it is effective for the project manager of Gionee to stand firm and work on the company’s
direction for a big deal. For being the project manager, it is significant to set small goals, so that
it can be achieved within 25 days that is decided for the launch of the product. The major steps
for which the project will be executed are:

Under these 5 steps mentioned above, the project plan will be executed for Gionee Dual Screen
Smartphone. The key areas, which has to be accounted before analysing the breakdown of the
project are analysed below:
Project Scope:
For any project to find success, the scope of the project has to be accounted first. Just as the aim
initiated, the project scope is to launch the Dual Screen Smartphone of Gionee by 23rd March to
26th March, so that the company can attain high success rate in terms of sales in this year. The
scope statement will clearly define the need for doing business, project benefits, deliverables and
the key milestones (Mir and Pinnington, 2014). It is instigated that the scope statement might
change but it should not be done without seeking approval of the project manager.
Milestones:
To find competitive advantage by Gionee in launching their new Dual Screen phone from
the Smartphone market
Identify a high-level goal by the project manager, so that testing the product can be done
successfully
Along the launch, promotion of the Smartphone has to be done well to get hold of the
desired target audience in UK.
Project Cost:
Any activity that is involved with the project has a specific cost. It might be in the form of the
resources to be spent, or the operational cost in undertaking any items, like the licenses, software
or the hardware. As the launch of the project is to be done, the project cost will be estimated on
in terms of how the project would be launched in a period of 25 days. The cost parameter of the
project will be identified with the equipments, staff cost, promotional materials, product testing

and other expenses (Calderón and Ruiz, 2015). Below is the total cost that is tabulated in the
following table.
List of Options Costs (in £)
Staff training 5000
Social media promotion 2000
Press release 7000
Banner cost during launch 3000
Big hoardings in different cities 8000
Product testing (with Software/ hardware check) 5000
Other equipments during launch 5500
Total 35,500
Table 1: Estimated Budget

Project time:
The time/schedule is considered as the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), which will show all
those activities, which need to be performed for the project to meet need. Thus, it will help to
create the deliverables of the project. To identify the key deliverables for the project, the project
manager of Gionee has to be liable for analysing the inputs like documents, information,
software, equipments, money and a proper plan (Kerzner and Kerzner, 2017). However, the
outputs would be the apps, tools, test results, consultation, contracts and the project plan. For this
project, the elements listed will prove crucial for the project launch. It is meant to identify if all
these satisfies the scope statement of the project (Sánchez, 2015). Often, managing the project
could have multiple milestones, like the event of Gionee for launching their product. Now, to

manager will be capable to identify the project launch successfully.
Figure 1: Critical Path Diagram
(Source: learner)
From the Critical path diagram, the estimated time required is calculated, as Start, S= S + P + C
+ Q + End = 7 + 6 + 3 + 5 + 4 = 25, which means 25 days for launching the project.
Project Quality:
To analyse the project quality, the project manager has to consider at first what should be the
needs of the targeted customers. The launch of the Dual screen Smartphone of Gionee will find if
the product is tested well, so that it can mark excellence during presenting it towards advertisers
and customers. Another key part for determining the quality of the project is to analyse the key
assurance, so that management is in line to regulate the product features and characteristics well
(Svejvig and Andersen, 2015). The process is essential, as it will help to maintain the quality of
the product but will also frame the consistency of the brand in the market.
Project Risk/resources:
In any project that could be small or large, a risk factor will certainly occur, and the concerned
manager has to tackle it along with his assisted team. Often, estimating the budget could be hard
for the project manager but this has to be done by making a risk assessment plan, so that all the
activities could be planned well (Martinsuo, 2013). In this project also, the time limitation and
the decided cost may be a risk factor but mitigating it sensibly will help to work feasibly. Below

WBS
It is a key project deliverable, which will help to organise team’s work into a manageable work.
The WBS ideally defines scope of the project into the manageable chunks, so that a project can
easily understand in a detail (Saunders and Lewis, 2012). In terms of a cost perspective, the work
package is grouped first and then assigned to a specific department to produce the work. In that
case, the WBS execution will be done through the key stages of the project management plan.
