PHYSICAL SECURITY 2
Part 1
One of the factors to consider when purchasing glass windows for an organization is the
type of glass used because it can affect heat absorption. For instance, low e-windows can reduce
heat loss during the winter and reduce heat absorption during summer while preventing harmful
ultraviolet rays from passing through (Rives,2017). For the organization, it would be beneficial
since it saves on cost consumed on energy. Another factor that should be considered is the
coating used. For example, tint coatings reduce the heat from the sun that enters the window
(solar heat gain coefficient) and glare (Kaz, 2013). In an organizational setting, it would provide
a conducive working environment for employees without adverse effects from the sun such as
the glare. Lastly, a factor to consider is the function of the glass window. For example, fixed
glass windows do not open while sliding ones slide horizontally and allow air leakage (Kaz,
2013). For an organization, the fixed glass window panes may not be appropriate since
ventilation is vital.
Due to the physical threats witnessed nowadays, bullet resistant glass windows are most
suitable for public and private organizations. According to Soffar (2017), bullet resistant glass
windows can offer protection from physical attacks involving guns and bombs. This safety is
advantageous for organizations that are high risk because they can safeguard employees.
Additionally, these windows slow down the bullet making it safer for the employees even when
the glass cracks since the effect is minimized (Soffar, 2017). For the organizations, the added
protection makes employees feel safer and have better work performance. Lastly, the article
‘Bullet Proof Glass and Disaster Preparedness’ states that the bullet resistant glass can also
protect people from the effects of natural disasters. Therefore, the organizations need to invest in
these types of windows because they offer added protection.

Part 2
The thing I found most compelling in this course is learning about different aspects of
physical security. In particular, I enjoyed learning about different types of locks such as deadbolt
and mortise locks. Secondly, I learned about bullet resistant doors and windows, which was
interesting because I can apply this knowledge to enhance my home security. Lastly, I was
fascinated by the different outer protection layers and the devices used for safety in each layer
such as surveillance cameras. Participating in the discussion boards enhanced my learning
because I gained more knowledge from seeing other people’s contribution. This is because I
analyzed what others had to say about the various topics and gave feedback related to their
opinions. The feedback mostly led to further discussions, which provided an opportunity to
research other sources. Ultimately, the added research improved everyone’s understanding. In
addition, I had to defend my views when other students disagreed with them, which made me do
more research by myself. The individual research enhanced my research skills, and I acquired
more knowledge related to the course. Finally, I am uncertain about physical security costs since
they vary depending on various factors such as the level of security required.
