business leader must have in order to operate in a global multicultural business environment.
These characteristics help the leader to tackle different cultural and other workplace related
issues. In case of myself, I must possess these characteristics in order to be a successful leader in
a multicultural business environment. After the self-assessment, I have come to know about the
current position in case of an effective business leader. There are certain characteristics that I
have in order to become an effective business leader. I have a global mindset that helps in
creating new solutions while seizing the business opportunities; and I am inspired enough for
making contributing to the global communities. I have a moderate self-awareness because in
know myself and understand my own beliefs that make me understand how it is different from

3MANAGEMENT IN GLOBAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Answer to Question 2
There are four characteristics that I have learnt in my previous course workshops that
help in becoming an effective leader in a multicultural business environment. These are
discussed below along with my action path to possess these characteristics.
1. It is needed to stop being ethnocentric in the workplace that is to entirely judge a culture
by the standards and values of my own culture. It is significantly essential to know my
own biases and to know how I see others through the lens of my own culture. In order to
possess this characteristic, I need to look for different perspectives as well as opinions
that can challenge me to reach higher (Popescu, 2013).
2. Effective leaders have the trait to plan ahead of cultural differences instead of minimizing
the cultural differences; and this trait is missing in me. In order to possess this trait, my
action path will be to plan cultural differences ahead while making the employees
recognizing these cultural differences so that they become prepare to adjust with these
cultural difference (Lisak & Erez, 2015).
3. An effective leader has the ability of fostering personal connection as well as
relationships while building trust. In order to become an effective leader in multicultural
environment, I need to possess this characteristic (Stevens et al., 2014). My approach will
be to develop a bridge, not walls. This can be achieved certain questions regarding the
expectations of the individual cultures, type of communication between the employees
and managers, decision making and executing processes in that culture and others.
4. Effective leaders have high CQ (Cultural Intelligence) that helps them in relating to the
work effectively across cultures. Leaders with high CQ can effectively adapt in culturally
diverse business environments (Bird & Stevens, 2013). This is a major characteristic that
