Global citizenship is the concept where an individual is considered as a citizen of the world
rather than that of a particular economy or a nation. Global citizenship provides that a citizen of
the world has specific responsibilities and duties towards the sensibilities and areas of the world
as a whole. Global citizenship is where an individual is responsible for developing as along with
the community as a globe. It is the responsibility for the individual to take effective measures
and steps to support the development and advancement of the world as an economy and habitat
for different species.
Identification of Leadership Style
The leadership style I have identified is the Democratic Leadership Style. This style of
leadership is where the leader undertakes the managerial decisions and plans actions in
consideration with the team members. The team members are adequately included in the
decision-making process in this style of leadership. The leadership style represents equally
including each team member in the decision-making process, but the final call is of the leader. I
practice this leadership style as it enables us to build the quality of integration and
accommodation amongst the team members. The style presents for distribution of power
between the team members and creates the personal and professional attributes of the employees.
Democratic leadership is an effective style of leadership which supports for effective team
management and decision making actions. Democratic leadership is the opposite of autocratic
leadership where no liberty or authority is given to the team members in the group activities or
the decision-making functions.

Characteristics of Leadership Style
There are different characteristics of a democratic leader. These characteristics define the
personality and professional traits of a leader. The traits of a democratic leader include for the
following:
Distribution of Power: A democratic leader has a common trait of distributing power amongst
the employees. The employees are given authority to undertake decisions and provide with
sufficient contribution to the decision-making process.
The delegation of Work: The Democratic leader also supports the commission of work amongst
the employees. The leader delegates responsibilities and work amongst the employees effectively
according to their capabilities and responsibilities.
Group Decision Making: The most popular and widely used trait in the democratic leadership
style is group decision making. The leader practicing this style supports for group decision
making. The decision making in this leadership style supports including different team members
in the decision making process and including the viewpoints or opinions of the affected
employees.
Creativity and Innovation: Democratic Leadership also supports creativity and innovation in
work responsibilities and job roles. Democratic leaders are famous to imply the concepts of
creativity and innovation in the work processes. Creativity is in building through the practice of
including the different team members and employees.
Two potential challenges of using the democratic style of leadership

There are different challenges identified in the context of a democratic style of leadership in
global citizen context. It is essential to determine them conclusively at the workplace so that
suitable strategies adopted to manage them. Following are two potential challenges discussed
when using the democratic style of leadership relevantly:
Competency: One of a significant problem which arises in the global citizen context of a
democratic style of leadership is competency. Thus, one of a significant challenge is competency
where employees need suitable and appropriate knowledge about the company to anticipate
decision. Hence, it is a considerable challenge for an organization while working at global level.
Pseudo-participation: Another challenge for a business is pseudo participation where
company’s state that they are using the democratic styles of leadership but in reality them not.
This will be going to create a negative influence on employees and enhance a number of
dissatisfied employees. This is another major challenge for an organization at a global citizen
workplace.
These two are significant challenges for global citizen and need sufficient understanding by
managers of a company. These challenges are essential to undertake by companies and prepare
relevant strategies to minimize constraints effectively. Hence, plans are required to evaluate so
that these two challenges and harm get control effectively. Thus, a discussion is needed to define
strategies accurately so that things get control properly and effectively.
Strategies used to address challenges
A leader who uses and typically focuses on democratic style has anticipated some obstacles and
problems. Thus, it is required to undertake suitable and relevant steps, strategies and approaches

allow democratic leaders to solve potential problems against such approach:
Training is one of a significant strategy which enables and supports to address competency
challenge. A company has to provide training to all their superiors and brief about the current
company situation. This will be going to proclaim a strong competency at the workplace. Along
with this, the company can conduct a survey and determine the most qualified candidates. This
has resulted in minimizing the issue of competency and addressing such a problem effectively.
Another strategy is relevant to the participation of employees for concern decision about a
problem. Many companies have not adopted this technique and only signify it at the workplace.
Thus, to deal with this attribute, the company can create their page on the social media platform
where employees have to share their views and experience. This will be going to assist them in
the positive draft image of a company. Along with this, it will be going to support them in
maximizing the participation of different employees.
Conclusion
A global citizen has been discussed in this report which enables an emphasis more and clears
identification of concept. One of the best leadership approaches which have been chosen for this
assessment refers to democratic style. This style has supported me to manage workplace
effective and appropriate. Democratic style leaders have a creative mind with a delegation of
work. They have distributed power as well so that things went in the right direction. The
potential challenges have been identified in terms of competency and pseudo participation.
Training and group discussion has identified as two important strategies which control problem-
related to a democratic style of leadership.
