INTRODUCTION
This world is increasingly becoming a single global village with huge cultural diversity and
differences. In order to thrive in the global environment, an individual needs to have greater
skills and competencies to attain success in a culturally diverse global organization
(Wintersteiner et al., 2014). So, this individual reflective report is prepared to identify and
evaluate personal strengths, weaknesses and emotional intelligence to make possible
improvements to develop as a global citizen. Different theories and model of reflection will
be used to reflect on the self-assessment and assessment done by my two friends. This
would effectively inform me about my weaknesses and strengths and support in personal
development as a global citizen.
COMPARING RESULTS WITH THE EVALUATION OF TWO PEOPLE
Globalisation has shaped worldwide interconnection in every sphere of activity and created
a shift in economic, technological, environmental, political, cultural as well as every sphere.
This is creating a new identity of people as a global citizen. The identity of global citizen
concerns with issues related to community wellbeing and sustainability (Greenhalgh, 2010).
In this age of changes and acceleration, it is important to remain competitive and build good
emotional and cultural intelligence.
For becoming a competitive global citizen, I should have to be aware of my emotional and
cultural intelligence. I have made a self-assessment of personal emotional intelligence,
abilities, skills, behaviour, etc. to identify my current level of competencies as a global
citizen (Dower and Williams, 2016). In order to make a comprehensive assessment, I have
asked my two close friends Amar and Inder to evaluate and assess my competencies, skills
and different factors of my personality.
To effectively reflect on the assessment results, I have utilized Johari window tool to process
thorough information about my attitude, behaviour, feelings, experience, skills, intentions
etc. (Chapman, 2014) this will inform about my emotional and cultural intelligence as a
global citizen.

Through evaluation, I have found that my findings from self-assessment are somewhat
different from what my friends have evaluated. On comparing my friend’s assessment and
personal assessment, I have found that I possess a good level of emotional intelligence. I
thought I am not friendly and dependent but my friends have suggested that I am good at
building and maintaining relationships and I have an independent personality. My friend
Amar has highlighted my knowledgeable side and told me I have good general and technical
knowledge that I was not aware of. Moreover, my friends do not have any idea about my
philanthropic side. I strongly have empathy and mercy for others and believe in the charity
that my friends haven't noticed or known.
This evaluation has also enabled me to identify my hidden strengths and weaknesses that
my friends and I are unaware and which I have analyzed due to certain past incidents. The

strengths are brave, sporty, and religious and some weaknesses are that I am sentimental
and tense.
ANALYSING STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES AND POSSIBLE WAY OF
IMPROVEMENTS
The analysis of the Johari window has suggested some identified as well as hidden strengths
and weaknesses of me. Through this, I have come to know that, I have good interpersonal
abilities, friendly, trustworthy, good listener, knowledgeable, quiet and independent person.
The strengths that my friends are not aware of are empathy, witty, idealistic, and self-
assertive.
I have also identified certain weaknesses that were not known to me such as I am
possessive, defensive and also act immature and childish sometimes. My weaknesses that
my friends are not aware of are that I am too clumsy and end up making a mess around
however, I am also good at reorganizing mess that I have made. I am very tired and feel
anxious most of the time and this limits my emotional intelligence. The general weaknesses
that my friends and I are aware are lack of confidence, tardiness and introvert nature as
speak up to selected people but become close to them very soon this has suggested that I
should focus on self-management and regulation.
I can apply self-determination theory or factors of intrinsic or extrinsic motivation to
improve identified weaknesses without compromising my existing strengths (Ryan, and
Deci, 2017). For instance, the intrinsic motivation for recognition and challenge could inspire
me to deal with my weakness of tardiness.
Through this, I have identified the areas where I need to make improvements to become a
competitive global citizen. First of all, I need to work on strengthening self-management and
gaining confidence. I should also work to avoid defensive attitude, immature behaviour,
exhaustion and tiredness. The majority of my weaknesses point out my weak emotional
intelligence and thus, I should have to improve emotional intelligence and self-awareness to
thrive in the global environment. On the other hand, I have empathy and I am a people
person that is a key strength of mine for becoming a global citizen.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES TO FUNCTION WELL AS A GLOBAL CITIZEN
During the workshop, I have learned that emotional intelligence has a great influence on the
attitude and behaviour at a workplace and it is utmost important in the current global
scenario. For working in a global organization I should focus on managing my emotions for
my work. I would strongly focus on deep acting rather than surface acting to enhance
emotional intelligence and avoid exhaustion, dissonance and depression. By matching
external disposition with internal feelings I can effectively convince my audience and avoid
emotional imbalance.
Self-awareness is the key to achieve what one desires (Lewin, 2010). It would support me
developing required emotional abilities to dealing with my weaknesses like exhaustion,
sentimental, defensive and under confidence. Moreover, it would also support in
strengthening my strengths. I should work on anger management, take responsibilities of
my actions and behaviours and also align it with personal values. I should also focus on
being versatile in terms of technical skills, basic economic and political knowledge to gain
competitive intelligence in the global business.
Theory U can be effectively applied for deeper learning and developing the required
competencies (Schattle, 2010). Through following the stages of suspending, redirecting,
letting go, letting come, crystallizing, prototyping and institutionalizing, I can effectively
develop and incorporate required changes in my behaviour and mindset. I would support
me in developing emotional and cultural intelligence. By keeping multiple intelligence
theory in mind, I would work on developing all other kinds of intelligence for my fuller
development as a global citizen.
CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, I can rate myself 6 on the rating scale of 0-10 in terms of global
competitiveness and citizenship. I have a long way to go to become a successful global
citizen who can effectively deal with cultural diversity and differences in the global
economy. I possess moderate emotional and cultural intelligence and thus, I should focus on
making improvements in identified weaknesses so that I can successfully thrive in the global
organization.
