INTRODUCTION
An event is defined as the planned occasion or social gathering which is organised by an
individual or groups of individual in order to celebrate a particular happening. It also organised
for the purpose of cherishing movements with other people (Richards and Colombo, 2017).
There are different types of events in our environment running on the basis of size and scope
such as personal, charitable, corporate, etc. In today's business environment, global events plays
an important role and it turned out to be international communication agency which is very
helpful in order to connect with different peoples and brands. This report will be discussing an
international convention centre i.e. Excel Centre London. They are hosting many types of events
such as Olympic sport events, etc. This report will be discussing diversity of global events and
the factors that influence the development of events. It will also discuss impact and legacy of
global events on environment with the discussion of management strategies that support event
developments.

Diversity of global event industry with the discussion of different types of events in our society
Events are defined as a public gathering at a determined time and place. The main
objective of staging an event is to rise in entertainment, business profitability, community and
celebrity. Some important events are conferences and exhibitions, seminars and corporate events,
music and art performances, festival, promotion and fundraising, product launches and trade
shows (Sobolev and Brown, 2019). There is a high diversity in the global event industry as it can
be categorise into many different ways such as size, content and form. Event size is defined as
the categorisation of events according to the size and scale. It includes mega events, local
community events, and hallmark events. Both hallmark and mega events are sub categorised into
the major events. On the other hand, local or community events are hosting festivals and events
that targeted only local audiences for the fun and entertainment value. This type of events
produces many benefits such as strengthening belongingness, creating a sense of place, and

engendering pride in society. One of the important examples is Asian Mela-Waltham Forest.
These types of events are very helpful to expose people who have new experiences and ideas,
encouraging diversity and tolerance and participation in arts and sports activities.
Major events
Major events are generally very large according to their name. It includes media interest
that has a capability to attract a large number of visitors (Bauer, Rooney and Lepland, 2020).
These events cover a mass media and provides man economic benefits. It has three important
elements which are mentioned below:
The first element is to involve competition between individuals or teams that represent
their nations. In simple word it is classed as sporting events.
These events should be attract interest of public on national and international level which
results in a spectator attendance of public and also cover media.
It should be of international level that includes many nations in their event.
After analysing three important elements in the major events, it is identified that it
includes many events that are discussed below:
Hallmark event
Hallmark event are refers to the event which can be easily identified with the earth shows
or a spirit of a city. These events become the synonymous of the places which game awareness
and widespread recognition. Some important examples of hallmark events are Kentucky Derby
in USA, Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland, Chelsea Flower Show, and Oktoberfest in
Munich, Germany. With the help of these events, UK country sense international recognition and
local pride. It also generates huge tourist revenue.
Mega events
These events are large in size and they give a great impact on economy of the nation.
They generate a competitive bidding with different nations. Some important examples of mega
events are Olympic Games, World Fairs, and the FIFA World Cup. The visitor exceed the

In this category, events are classified on the basis of their content or form. This event is
categorised into two important forms that are mentioned below:
Cultural event

important examples are Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera, Edinburgh festivals, etc. These
events are an important expression of the activities of human. They are contributing in social and

provide many benefits to the participants that include coaches, players and officials. It has
categorised into four parts that are discussed in below points:
Type Aare the mega events that include international spectator events such as Summer

Type B are the calendar events that generate a significant economic activity. It is the part
of annual domestic cycle. For example, FA cup final.
The third type is type C that is one of the major competitor and spectator events which
generate an uncertain level of economic activity and considered as one off events. For

The last category is type D which considered as showcase events. It generates little
economic activity as it is the part of annual cycle. For example, National championships.
