The world has witnessed many events that has changed the history of humankind
globally. History is a great teacher that has helped human beings learn from the mistakes made in
the past and progress in future. Starting from wars to great inventions, these historical events
have affected the world in a manner that has laid the path for the future and can even be given
the title of ‘game-changers’. The present paper aims at discussing how world war two, cold war
and the partition of India and Pakistan had a global impact that changed the world.
World War 2 was one of the deadliest wars that the world had ever witnessed. The
countries from every continent were involved, waging war against each other in pursuit of power
that resulted in the loss of millions of lives and shook the economy of the entire globe. I feel that
the war was a game-changer because the end of the war marked the beginning of new system of
ideals and norms on an international level and ensured that peace and prosperity was established
throughout the world. One of the main contributions of the war was the establishment of the
United Nations that was built specifically to maintain world peace and security. The organisation
continues to dissipate any kind of international trouble that threatens to hinder world peace.
Another ground-breaking impact of world war was the emergence of several Asian and African
countries as free democratic countries. Many Asian and African countries were subject to
European colonialism. The war was game changing because these countries gained
independence; they gained a voice against the atrocities of colonialists and emerged as new
developing countries that had the potential to change the world. Emergence of new countries
contributed to a new perspective to world peace and ideals. The major and the most important
game changing event according to me was the development of technology. Technology has
become the most vital aspect of our lives. It is impossible to imagine our lives without computers
and internet. It was end of the war that resulted in advancement in technology and now we can

see its effects worldwide. Each and every aspect of our life is manipulated by technology,
starting from education to simple daily tasks of life. World War 2 was definitely a game changer
according to me.
After the end of the World War, there arose another kind of war that did not include the
use of any kind of arms and ammunitions. This war was the result of difference in ideologies to
lead the world. The United States of America and the Soviet Union were waged against each
other in a Cold War. The United States of America supported the ideology of democracy while
the Soviet Union supported the ideology of communism. Both the nations were fighting to gain
the status of superpower nation and still continue to do so in the present times. I feel the cold war
anxieties is shaping the world today. There has been an increase in obsession with security where
countries are investing more on defense than on health care facilities, which is ultimately
affecting the citizens of the country. The countries are so obsessed with their idea of supremacy
that they engage in violating terms of privacy and secrecy to always stay ahead of the other
country. This fanatic idea of spending on military organisations, arms, ammunitions and nuclear
treaties has led the world leaders to neglect the development of the other departments such as
health care. For example, at these trying times where the whole world is suffering through the
pandemic of corona virus, countries have failed to fight against this deadly disease that has led to
the loss of thousands of lives and this is the result of the neglect of the world leaders towards
health care and investing more in defense strategies. Cold War was ground breaking because it
divided the world into two ideologies, one that supported the American ideology of democracy
and the other that supported the Soviet Union ideology of communism. Hence, Cold War became
another turning point in the history of humankind.

When the whole world was suffering from the aftereffects of World War 2, there was a
country in Asia that was fighting its own battle. India who was under the European colonialism
had gained independence in 1947 however; this independence came with an extreme cost. India
was divided into two countries on the basis of religion, and that gave birth to two new countries
in Asia, India and Pakistan. Millions of lives were lost when the people were migrating, leaving
their motherland and moving to an unknown place simply because they belonged to a different
religion. This was the largest forced migration of people that had not occurred due to famine.
This event was not only game changing for the people of India and Pakistan but also for the
entire world. Its impact is still seen today where India and Pakistan continuously engage in
diplomatic fights. These countries are now supported by the other countries of the continent who
see their own benefit behind the constant war between these two countries. According to me, the
partition of India and Pakistan has to be seen as a game changer because this particular event
changed the lives of billions of people. Religion had a major role to play in the way the people
viewed each aspect of their lives. This effect of partition could be seen all over the world. The
two countries still fight over Kashmir and as they are nuclear armed countries, they threaten to
break the peace of the world. The developed countries make use of the situation and play their
own politics in it.
Thus, from the above discussion, it can be said that the World War 2, Cold War and the
India Pakistan partition were ground-breaking events that changed the history of the world. The
after effects of these events are still felt today and would continue to teach lesson to humanity in
the future.
