GLOBAL GOVERNANCE
How immigration becomes global issue:
The term immigration denotes an international movement where certain people
change their destination or inhabitancies to certain places in which they are not he natives. In
such cases, the people are not entitled to any citizenship right of that country and employed
as migrant worker. Due to certain international or natural calamities, the migrants are forced
to change their destination. From the economic aspect, the process of immigration could be
beneficial to the countries. There are certain well-skilled migrants who create great impact on
the financial position of the country and in this manner; the rate of world GDP has become
increased (Hollifield et al.). This makes immigration as a global issue. According to a report,
it has been observed that most of the migrants are placed in developed countries and helps to
increase the GDP growth of those countries. According to the report submitted by the Inter
Pres Service (IPS), there are certain perspectives of immigration such as national or
international conflicts and avoid prejudices. The working capacities of the migrants are
helpful for the economic expansion of the country (Geddes). However, certain issues have
been cropped up in this case. Often it can be seen that the migrants are getting low
remuneration and they are exploited for their cheap labouring capacities.

GLOBAL GOVERNANCE
According to Immigration database of 2015, almost 4% of the global population is
consisting of immigrants. Further, the process of diversity becomes geared up through
immigration. Vertovec has regarded the system as legally stratified immigrants. In recent
stage, the pattern of immigration becomes complex in concurrence with the volume,
geographical scope and diversification. Immigration helps to advance the transport and
communication technology. All these instigate the globalisation process. Immigration also
creates effect on the political and cultural aspect of the countries.
How global governance is attempting to address global issue of immigration:
The term globalisation has become a phenomenon now days and the political,
economic and social system of the countries are affected by this. The main reason regarding
the same is the strong interconnection between the countries. There are certain global
political actors like United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU) that play a significant
role in this case. Various issues are spread over globally and create great impacts on the
political, economical and social character of the country (Zong, Jie, and Jeanne Batalova).
These issues have worldwide effect. International migration is one of them. The global
governing bodies are dealing with these things and it can be stated that these organisations
are making certain attempts to address the global issue of immigration through international
regimes, intergovernmental organisations and transnational players. International
organisations are playing certain key roles in global governance. There are certain incidents
going on all over the world that provoke international confliction and many people become
homeless due to this. Therefore, various steps are taken to resolve all the disputes.
Organisations like UN are assessing all the perspectives and trying to build a model of low-
key cooperation. Further, certain issues are cropped up regarding the migration problems
such as exploitation of labour and human trafficking. All these things become an important

issue and global governances are extending their hand to resolve all these disputes. Further,
International Labour Organisation has also taken certain steps in this regard and certain
conventions are conducted to point out all the current disputes and chalked out plans for the
same. Certain crucial steps have been taken by the Berne convention regarding the migration
related disputes so that certain challenges could be taken. However, all the processes taken by
the organisation have no binding impacts (Bhachu). According to Mbabaji, most of the issues
have certain societal impacts and therefore, the main focus of the global governance is to
resolve the disputes at the root level.
Identify the governance gaps regarding immigration matters:
It has been observed that the global organisations are playing important role
regarding migration related matters. Further, these organisations have taken many steps to
resolve all the disputed issues and certain conventions have been conducted. However, there
are certain weak points of all these arrangements. The main point is that nature of all such
arrangements has no binding personality. It is the discretionary power of the states whether to
accept the plans or not. In many cases, it has been observed that the countries are not taking
the steps of the international organisations seriously and therefore, the countries are digging
their soil in their own way. Further, the global organisations have failed to make any uniform
rule regarding the same. Therefore, certain complexities have been generated regarding
sensitive issues like immigration problems. Issues like labour exploitation and human
trafficking have serious impacts on the society and certain shortfalls of those organisations
can be observed in this regard (Duffield). In addition to this, lack of integrity within the
international organisation forms problems. The functional capacity of those organisations is
not that effective and in case of any policy implementations of UN, consent of a major part of
the states is required. Therefore, in many cases, it can be seen that certain policies could not

effectively imposed or passed. All these gaps have weakened the base of the organisations
and it can be seen that no unitary solution has been made out by the organisation. Many states
are avoiding the proper application of those plans and proposals and in this way, the ultimate
aims of the global governance becomes unfulfilled (Abbott).
Recommendations:
Problems regarding immigration become one of the main global issues and
therefore, it is required to resolve the dispute as soon as possible. However, the weak points
of the international organisations have created certain loopholes in this case. The internal
conflicts of Syria or the disputes cropped up in the Latin American countries have shown the
naked reality of the immigration issues and countries like Greece have denied taking any
responsibilities of the migrants. There are certain wrong concepts present in this case.
According to many liberals, migrants are creating problems and causing unemployment in the
country. Following recommendations can be provided to resolve the disputes:
It is recommended that the developed countries should have to extend their hands
towards the affected people so that they can take shelter in their territories;
It is also recommended that the developed countries should have to make proper
assessment regarding the immigration related issues;
It is recommended that the global governance system should be liberal over the
issues;
It is recommended that international organisations like United Nations should have
to follow and implement uniform code of practice in this regard;
It is recommended that the countries should accept the positive impacts of the
migration and take all necessary measures to this effect;

It is recommended that all the migration related issues like labour exploitation and
human trafficking should be banned and proper actions should be taken in this
purpose;
It is recommended that an overall helping mentality should be grown up in favour
of this problem.
Therefore, it has been observed that immigration related problems have become a
global matter and proper democratic society could not be established if not all these problems
are been identified and resolved with great care. Responsibilities should have to be taken by
all the countries and it is also required to maintain international protocols in this matter. The
international societies have to maintain the decorum and issues like immigration should be
resolved.
