Global Health Partnerships and Development Goals
During the beginning of the new millennium that is September 2000, the global
leaders gathered together at the United Nations for shaping an extensive vision in order to
battle with poverty and health related issues in many dimensions for next 15 years. Further
that vision of leaders has been translated into 8 Millennium Development Goals (hereinafter
referred as MDGs) (United Nations Development Programme, 2015). Thus, this discussion is
about right to health, global health partnerships and their targets described through MDGs for
the new developed era.
These MDGs has helped in overcoming the challenges related to many social
determinants of health area and will continue to do so (Buse & Hawkes, 2015). For an
example, out of all health related MDGs and targets; Goal 1 is about eradicating poverty and
hunger from the world. In this way, we can easily see that poverty and hunger are the two
critical causes of poor health in the global society, if the above two will be eliminated
effectively then our globe will grow healthier and happier than today. Goal 4 is about
reducing child mortality which is also directly associated with global health. Goal 5 is
established to improve maternal health of the world women. In the context of healthy
community, goal 6 declares that with the help of target 6A, 6B and 6C of this HIV/AIDS,
malaria and other life threatening diseases will be treated effectively as soon as possible.
Moreover, Goals 7 and 8 of the MDGs are containing environmental sustainability and
developing global partnerships for the healthy and wealthy world. However, a major criticism
of the 8 MDGs is the perseverance of disparities in health results, access as well as the let-
down in aligning global health funding with the structure-wide challenges (United Nations
Development Programme, 2015).
In this way, the info collected from the progress report of the MDGs, the development
of Global Health Governance as well as right Healthcare Policy decisions will become easier
and effective. Moreover, the translating MDGs into substantial advances in the global health
based on operative global health governance will definitely help shaping the healthcare
policies in Saudi Arabia (Buse & Hawkes, 2015). Finally, the MDGs will probably the game
changer for the global health governance. Besides, if effectively implemented, these will
definitely considerably progress global health outcomes as well as improve healthcare policy
decisions.
