The report is focused on the functional areas of 3T LOGISTICS HOLDINGS LIMITED and
their management system. Communication process is also discussed effectively. In this report,
the impact of globalisation is discussed that is important for developing a transportation business
in a proper manner. Moreover, the key drivers of globalisation that are analysed can help in
understanding the effect on business development. In the end, leadership style is also evaluated
in order to expand business in global context.

1. Introduction
In order to operate business in the global context, it is necessary to follow the effective
leadership style for getting fruitful outcome. Proper leadership and management style helps the
organisation to earn prosperity along with reputation from society. Therefore, the purpose of this
report is to analyse the functional areas and importance of communication for business. 3T
LOGISTICS HOLDINGS LIMITED will be considered for finishing this report effectively.
This organisation is under logistics industry and it serves in the East Midlands region. Their
revenue is around £10M -£20M, which indicates a strong position of the company in the market
(3t-europe.com, 2019). Throughout the study, it will focus on functional area, communication
process of 3T logistics. Impact of globalisation will also be discussed in this paper.

2. Describe the functional areas of one chosen business and its hierarchy of management.
Functional areas
The organisations need to follow the specific pattern in time of operating their business
(Lyamzin et al., 2016). In case of 3T holdings, it is an organisation under logistic industry and
their main function is to manage the transportation system properly. Various functions in the
system are found out in this organisation, which are Event import, Event connect, Event informs,
Event dock, Event freight bill, Event consolidate, Event optimise, Event BIP (3t-europe.com,
2019).

Using Event import system, the company analyses the validity of the information and enter the
data in the system. In addition to this, order line is also developed so that company can track the
activities of their employees. In the Event consolidate system, data of handling units and
packaging related information is stored. Moreover, freight bill system helps to calculate freight
bill so that charge of transportation can be reduced. Therefore, it can be deduced that using

transport management system, 3T is able to control their transportation functions such as product
collection, packaging and its delivery properly.

Apart from system, experts are also there in order to provide satisfaction to the business of 3T
holdings. Main functions of the experts are change management, continuous improvement,
financial control, operational support and many others. As 3T holdings help in transportation
system, they try to offer updated service at a low cost. In this context, experts constantly observe
the present requirement of customers related to transportation such as quick delivery of products
and they use freight bill calculator for reducing expenditure of their clients.
Therefore, 3T holdings collect product from their clients such as Honda, JCB and deliver it to its
destination in a hurdle free way. These activities are their main function and they fulfil it by
using various systems and experts.

In 3T holdings, logistic director observes the work process of the employees for maintaining
their service quality in the appropriate way. Under the logistic director, three departments are
there such suppliers’ orders, production planning and customers’ contact (Combe, 2014). For
operating their business effectively, white-collar employees of above-mentioned designations
complete the entire process in the digital version, whereas, in case of blue-collar workers, they
conduct the task manually. Keeping this in mind, director of 3T holdings instruct to the white-
collar employees about their operation and white-collar employees convey it to the blue-collar
workers. After completing each step by blue-collar employee such as product collection,
packaging, white-employees update it in the transportation management system (Chandler,
1990). The entire process indicates that formalisation structure is followed in the company. This
management system helps 3T holdings to hold their position and reputation in the market.
3. Why is communication central to leadership and management? Within your answer,
provide examples of effective interdepartmental communication within an organisation.
Communication is the most important part in order to fulfil the customers’ demand in the
business. In addition to this, in time of implementing organisational plan, managers should
explain it to the leaders; otherwise, effective outcome cannot be achieved (Volberda et al., 2011).

In case of leaders in the venture, they need to follow the instruction of the management and
convey it to the workers. Therefore, it is evident that without a strong communication system,
organisation will not be able to achieve proper result from the market. Thus, communication is
the central part of the management and leadership. The reasons for considering communication is
the most effective aspect are followed by-
 Communication process assists to develop bond between workers and managers, which
helps to increase productivity of 3T holdings
 It assists to meet the organisational objectives by setting the goal of workers
 In the risky situation, managers can communicate with leaders and it helps to handle the
situation easily (Cutler, 2014).
For example, in time of working in the 3T holdings, logistic director provides instruction to the
white-collar employees about the work process and they convey it the blue-collar workers.
However, it is found that one white-collar employee was not able to convey the instruction
related to packaging to the blue-collar worker. As a result, customers’ demand related to product
delivery was not met and it left negative impact on the business. Apart from this example, due to
having strong communication system in 3T holdings, the organisation is able to hold their
position in market. Using the concept of Shannon weaver model, intranet has been developed in
the venture (Stuart, 2007). Thus, effective communication system is noticed in the organisation,
which, in return, increases organisational profit in the market.

4. What are the current drivers of globalisation? In your answer, include an explanation of
how the drivers of globalisation impact businesses.
Globalisation is defined as the process of interaction among the companies, government and
people of several nations using the process of international trade and foreign investment
followed by the information technology. As mentioned by Søndergaard et al. (2016),
globalisation is defined as the geographic dispersion of service and industrial activities. With the
trends of globalisation, transport services are now able to gain access to export the products in
various countries. Hence, 3t Logistics Holdings Limited can be able to transport the products in
different parts of the national and international regions.

Technological change: It has been found that technology plays a major role in context of
globalisation. For example, while operating business of 3t Logistics Holdings Limited in region
of East Midlands, it is important to assess the technologies that are used for business operation. It
is useful for understanding the level of the transmission costs and other information for operating
business effectively.
Containerisation: In the business of transport, the organization requires to consider the ocean
shipping costs while exporting the products in global countries. Aljuwaiber (2016) commented
that the company could gain benefit if the costs of shipping products are lower. This helps in the
bringing the prices of manufacturers closer towards the export market.
Economies of scale: In the new country, there can be possible that accelerated rate associated
with technological innovation differs from one country to another country. It has been found that
more there is technology advancement, more the costs will be required in the transportation
services.

Difference in the tax policies: In countries such as Europe and other UK region, there is a huge
rate of legal compliance that the organization needs to follow (Cohen and Ladaique, 2018). In
addition to this, the tariffs differ from one country to another, hence companies such as 3t
Logistics Holdings Limited need to develop the tax rate for shipping the products accordingly.
Different ways by which drivers of globalisation has impacted the business of 3t Logistics
Holdings Limited has been analysed below:
 The company has opportunities to expand its business in different regions of UK such as
Ireland, England and other places. Moreover, the company has developed international
trade by fulfilling the demands of consumers that has ultimately helped in becoming
self-sufficient in business.
 The change in the taxation policies has created a huge impact on the business policies.
As the technological advancement has occurred due to globalisation, 3t Logistics
Holdings Limited has been able to transfer the products and services from one region to
another in a very easy manner. Moreover, the employees are able to track the delivery
process of products with the development of technology.
 Moreover, globalisation has created demand among the consumers and the desires of
buying products are increasing. Hence, this is allowing the business of 3T Logistics
Holdings Limited in identifying the target market and transport products accordingly.
5. Compare and contrast two chosen styles of leadership or management. In your opinion,
which one style is most suitable for the modern global organisation and why?
Leadership can be considered as the way, where the group of people work for achieving a
specific goal. Effective leadership can be achieved if people have trust with each other. The main
role of leaders is to collect resource, setting goals and supervising the work of team members.
These activities of leaders help the organisation to develop their position in the contemporary
market (Worthington and Britton, 2015). Different management and leadership styles are
transactional, autocratic, democratic leadership and many others. It is found that in democratic
leadership, leaders seekthe opinion of their team members in order to conduct the work properly.
On the other hand, in case of autocratic leadership, the leaders instruct to the members and they

need to listen it thoroughly. Democratic leadership style is free and liberated in nature, whereas
autocratic style is quite strict (Barton et al. 2012). Though, democratic leadership helps to create
friendly atmosphere in the venture, this style is the time consuming process. In this process,
leaders need to hear the viewpoints of all employees before taking business related decision. In
3T holdings, democratic style is followed for logistic directors and white-collar employees. In
case of blue-collar workers, autocratic leadership style is followed as they blue-collar employees
do not have proper theoretical knowledge related to logistics. Hence, they need to work as per
the instruction of white-collar employees. In order to operate in international context, the
organisation should follow autocratic style, which will help the venture to control the braches of
various countries.
As per the opinion, various recommendations are suggested to 3T holdings and these are
followed by-
 It is recommended to the organisation to expand their business in the remote area of
various countries so that they can lead the industry properly. It is found that
transportation services are provided only in the urban area. Therefore, if 3T holdings in
able to provide their service rural areas of various countries, it can increase their
position in the market.
 Using autocratic style, all employees should listen the words of the logistic directors
and it helps to operate the business properly in global context.
 In this style, directors can hear the suggestion of workers of 3T holdings; however, the
director should take ultimate decision.
