1GLOBAL MINDSET ANALYSIS
Introduction
Global mindset is considered to be the ability that can help in the process of absorbing the
information, cultural norms and the traditions from different parts of the world in order to
conceptualize the impact that it is able make on the environments. The individuals are able to
adjust to different environments and cultures that are a part of various countries. The airlines
industry operates in different countries and is a global industry as well (Bhagat et al. 2007). The
formation of the global mindset is considered to be important for the employees who are a part of
the organizations that operate in the airlines industry. The employees need to adapt to the
cultures of different countries in order to understand the needs and demands of the customers.
The global mindset is considered to be an important factor that can support the operations of the
airlines based organizations. The dimensions of the global mindset will also be discussed in the
report in detail. The practical application of global mindset in the airlines industry will be
analyzed and discussed as well (Beechler and Javidan 2007).
Global Mindset explained
According to Bhagat et al. (2007), the development of global mindset is based on the
ways by which leaders of the global organizations are able to adapt and also use the style that is
considered to be acceptable and also helps in getting the jobs done. The different factors that are
a part of the process of development of global mindset include, openness to the learning,
adapting to the new cultures, there is no particular correct way, curiosity and levels of interest,
proactive usage of diversity and not bound by the local cultures. The leadership that has been
developed with the help of global mindset is situation in nature. The situational leadership is

mainly based on the ways by which the organizations are able to maintain the levels of global
mindset in an effective manner (Clapp-Smith, Luthans and Avolio 2007).
As discussed by Egel and Fry (2017), the openness and awareness is considered to be a
process of accepting and appreciating the global trends when the decisions are made. Cultural
differences provide the ability to individuals to develop connections with people from the other
cultures in an emotional and intellectual manner. Culture will be able to influence and also
dictate the ways by which individuals can lead their everyday lives. Global mindset can be
considered as a major characteristic of the leadership that is developed by the individuals
(Felício, Meidutė and Kyvik 2016). The value that is provided to diversity is an important part of
the proper formation of global mindset. The process of communication is also influenced in a
huge manner by the development of global mindset and effective leadership as well. A major
challenge that is faced by the organizations currently is based on the ways by which global
leaders can be prepared to adapt to the changes in the environment (Javidan and Bowen 2013).
According to Lappe and Dörrenbächer (2017), the orientations that are developed by the
global or multinational organizations are strong in nature and the senior managers of
organizations are responsible for proper development of leadership. The economic conditions in
different countries have an impact on the ways by which a global mindset is developed. The gap
that previously existed between the strategic, economic and technological requirements can be
reduced with the help of steps that are taken by the global managers. The growth of
organizations in BRIC that include, Brazil, Russia, India and China is affected by the different
emerging economies including, Asia, Latin America and Africa (Lester, Virick and Clapp-Smith
2016).

Dimensions of global mindset explained
According to Levy et al. (2007), the current business environment is mainly shaped by
the changes that take place in the technological, economic, cultural and the political factors. The
changes are mainly referred to as globalization in which the national borders have started
disappearing. The value that the organizations aim to provide to the customers leads to the ways
by which they can mobilize people in an effective manner. The local responsiveness is
considered to be an important factor that is able to affect the global mindset and operations of
business organizations as well (Mikhaylov and Fierro 2015). However, the global mindset needs
to be developed not only by the organizations; the individuals also need to form global mindset
in order to maintain the profitable operations. The dimensions of global mindset are mainly
based on the cross-cultural and cross border ways of thinking and the different cultures as well.
The proper integration of global efficiency and the levels of local responsiveness in the work
process of individuals are considered to be highly important (Nielsen 2018).
According to Paul (2000), the individual global mindset mainly relates to globalization,
the different dimensions and the factors that can influence the global mindset as well. Global
mindset is thereby related to the global leaders and different dimensions of the concept as well.
The strategic directions of the organizations are set with the help of global leaders and the
influence that they have on the globalization of the business operations. The perspectives of the
global leaders are considered to be a major articulation of vision that that has been developed by
the organization as a whole (Felício, Meidutė and Kyvik 2016). The global leaders in this case
can be described as those who are able to set the direction of business organizations and also
communicate the vision to the employees in an effective manner. On the other hand, leadership
is considered to be a process that influences others so that they are able to understand and agree

about the requirements and needs (Javidan and Bowen 2013). The cross cultural and cross border
activities that are performed by the organizations are also affected by the leaders of the global
organizations. The different dimensions of global mindset are considered to be important for the
ways by which the leaders are able to maintain their positions in the organizations. In case of the
airlines industry, the formation of global mindset is considered to be highly important for the
employees in order to deal with the international customers (Clapp-Smith, Luthans and Avolio
2007).
Practical relevance of Global Mindset for the Firm, the Industry and the Society in General
According to Lappe and Dörrenbächer (2017), the importance of having a global mindset
in the highly competitive environment is considered to be highly important. The international
customers can be managed by the leaders effectively with the support that is provided by the
global mindset. The airline company will be able to develop the global mindset in order to serve
the customers in different parts of the world. The leaders and managers will communicate with
the customers in order to improve the levels of profitability as well (Clapp-Smith, Luthans and
Avolio 2007). The global mindset will help the employees to understand the demands and needs
of the customers in different parts of the world. This is considered to be an important factor that
can affect the ways by which global mindset of the leaders and the employees as well (Lester,
Virick and Clapp-Smith 2016).
As discussed by Egel and Fry (2017), the proper understanding of different cultures is
also important for the development of effective levels of revenues. The airlines organization will
be able to develop a larger customer base with the support that is provided by the understanding
of the needs and demands of the local as well as the global customers. The global operation of an

airlines organization requires the proper development of a global mindset as well. The employees
of the company and the senior managers need to collaborate in such a manner that will be able to
support the future plans related to development and expansion in the different countries as well
(Felício, Meidutė and Kyvik 2016).
According to Bhagat et al. (2007), the airlines industry is highly competitive in nature
and the development of global mindset is important for the ways by which the organizations will
be able to face competition. The level of expansion of an organization is totally based on the
global operations and mindset of the employees. The intensifying competition in the airlines
industry has increased the need of a cognitive mindset of the leaders and senior managers of
different organizations (Clapp-Smith, Luthans and Avolio 2007). The cultural diversity is
considered to be an important aspect that is related to the ways by which the organizations in
airlines industry can maintain the operations on a global basis. The society will be influenced by
the global mindset that is developed by the organizations and employees as well. Global
organizations and lack of borders are considered to be important factors that have an impact on
the need of global mindset (Nielsen 2018). Global mindset will be able to play a major role in the
development of the operations of different organizations in the different countries. The
communities belonging to the areas in which the organizations expand also need to have a
mindset in order to accept the products and services that they offer (Bhagat et al. 2007).
