1GLOBAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT
In the given report, the author has summarized the essential skills that are needed to become a
good project manager. The first skill that the author highlights is that project managers need to
have very thorough knowledge about the project he is handling. The project managers also need
to understand the members of his team and have some patience and common sense. In a team, a
project manager needs to work with different kind of people hence he should have good
decision-making ability. The project managers should also have good understanding of the
different project management methods like Waterfall and Agile methods. The author states that
he has himself worked as a project manager in Information Communication Technology sector
for ten years. The author has used rapid application development method to design and
implement his projects. The main project he did was the ITEE or Information Technology
Engineering Examination. It was based on waterfall method. He learned a lot during that project.
I think that the skills highlighted by the author are very much essential for a project
manager. Skills like good communication, deep knowledge about projects, patience,
understandability, good decision making and common sense. Along with these, I would like to
add leadership and negotiation skills to the essential skill list. The ability to work under pressure
and handle different type of projects is also an important criterion. Due to the massive increase in
the number of business globally, the number of projects have increased tremendously. Hence,
global project management has become very big nowadays.
