GLOBAL CHALLENGE IN THE U.S ECONOMY
According to the recent research it has been reported that around sixty five million
people have been displaced by war which took place in Syria. The refuge crisis is one of the
major global challenge faced by the whole world. As a result of persecution millions of
people along with their children have fled from their home countries and landed in USA
(Hollifield, Martin and Orrenius. 2014). The Syrian war which is taking place for almost
seven years displaced around six million refugees and most of them fled to Turkey (American
Immigration Council 2018). According to the New York Times, the United States of America
have taken in around 2500 refugees since the year 2012. However, when there was a terrorist
attack on 2015 on Paris, the government of USA opposed the resettlement of refugees from
Syria in their states. The refugees also have a very limited opportunity in the labour market
and therefore they faces unemployment. Apart from Syria, refugees from Afghanistan has
also reported to settle in USA (State.gov. 2018). Most of the displaced population of the
world usually resides in cities than camps. Accepting more refugees will lead to depression of
wages. Rise in population also resulted in rise in unemployment. As the population increases
due to migration, the migrants are generally exploited in the labour market. Issue of migration
also resulted in the rise of human trafficking all over the world and also can increase the rate
of terrorism. Migrants also do not feel safe in the foreign countries where women are mostly
subjected to harassments and injustice. The lack of proper infrastructure facilities in USA has
also created serious problems (Massey. 2013). Canada is also reported to take in large
number of Syrian refugees in the last few years. The political cost of accepting refugees in
the United States is also high.
The Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration of the United States provides aid
and solutions for the migrants and refugees around the world for resettlement in the United
States of America. Another program named as the Office of Refugee Resettlement is been
created with the United States Refugee Act of 1980( State.gov. 2018). The ORR program

helps the refugees and victims of human trafficking seeking them by seeking safe places for
them in the United States. The Obama administration admitted around ten thousand Syrian
refugees in the year 2016 through the refugee resettlement program. The policies help the
refugees for settlement and also helps in proving jobs for sustainability( American
Immigration Council 2018). The US refugee resettlement policy also provide jobs to the
refugees within six months of arrival in order to minimise the negative impacts of the
migrants although the size of the refuge program in the United States has fluctuated. The
Centre of Disease Control and Prevention provides medical guidelines for refugees. The
Torture Victims Relief Act of 1998 provides rehabilitation of the survivors and also provides
education programs for the refugees so that they can survive in the future. However,
President Donald Trump has prohibited the entry of refugees from Libya, Somaliya, Syria,
Iraq, Sudan, Iran and Yemen.
