One of the major challenges faced by global teams occur is lack of proper communication
when a project manager deals with each member of different country. For example- when
project manager is speaking with the team member in an official language in which both of
them should be fluent enough otherwise it will lead to misunderstanding. This implies that
there is a huge mystery in the surrounding if team members properly understands what each
one is saying. These days, managers often try to mitigate risk in order to minimise human
errors, which may arise the cost of setting up a modern system such as translator. There exist
a lack of ability where team members are not able to clearly portray emotions, body
language, tone, and virtual communication. This creates a great difficulty to communicate
effectively especially the team consists of people belonging to different generations or
cultures.
Apart from inter-cultural issues and language barriers, there are certain other barriers such as
lack of definition of clear task, challenges in engaging in task implementation, and lack of
respect and trust. These factors affect the performances of the global virtual team. It is not
easy to outreach because of ambiguities that are related to demand of task due to which the
global virtual teams actually exists. It is mandatory to accomplish trust and combine informal
controls that can result in identification and team motivation. Cultural sensitivity is necessary
to accomplish in order to avoid language differences by integrating the skills.
