Introduction
From different recent instances, it has been observed that the entire tourism industry make
several positive impacts towards the overall operational function of the country. However, it has
been observed that in recent context different activities regarding travel and tourism is causing a
range of different problems towards different countries. At the specific part of the entire study,
different problems that might be faced by recent nations due to the negative effects of travel and
tourism will be assessed. Moreover, subsequent examples will also be provided where the travel
and tourism industry is causing significant negative aspects.

Main Body
The entire travel and tourism industry can be identified as the largest industry since it contributes
hugely towards the global economy directly, indirectly and in induced way. At the year of 2016,
tourism contributed over $7.6 trillion at the global economy. A range of different countries
including France, United States, United Kingdom and many others are continuously becoming
popular destinations of tourism, which ultimately resulted towards increasing economical
benefits. A recent statistics shows that only domestic level travel and tourism has contributed
more than $3.97 trillion towards the overall global economy at certain extension, which is
actually huge (Xu et al., 2016).
Despite the fact that travel and tourism industry contributes a lot towards toward global economy
context, it also has negative impact towards different segments of a nation in recent context. As
an instance, tourism might have negative impact at social, cultural, environmental as well as
economical levels at certain extension. Tourism might damage the overall landscape of a nation.
As an instance, it has been observed that the Amazon rainforest is continuously changing its
landscape due to the extensive pressure from tourists. In addition to that, it has also been
observed from several different instances that extensive level of population is continuously
causing disturbance by causing carbon emission and vandalism. It is also a negative impact of
tourism. This type of negative impact has been found on nations like Brazil, United Kingdom
and many some other countries as well (Cowburn et al., 2018). Moreover, it has also been
observed that tourism might increase the stock price as well as overall price of different goods as
well as services, which might misbalance the economic condition. Tourists need to pay more
than usual when the numbers of tourists are much higher than anticipated. This type of negative

situation has been observed at different nations such as Thailand, Fiji and some other countries
also where the overall economic condition is not that well.
In addition to that, despite the fact that tourism might have positive impact towards social level,
it might also have some negative effects as well. As an instance, it has been observed that due to
extensive tourism the overall demand regarding holiday homes and associated bossiness has been
increased a lot at different seasons (Postma and Schmuecker, 2017). Therefore, some local
residents cannot use these properties in cheap price, which is why they might face some
challenge.
Since it has been observed from several different instances that extensive level of tourism might
increase the development procedure of different hotels as well as shops, it extensively increases
the level of unsolicited competition. This type of incident has been observed in different
developing nations such as India, Fiji and many other where an extensive level of population is
still under poverty level. Unethical business practices might harm the overall economic condition
of a nation. Therefore, it is also a negative impact of tourism.

It has been experience that inbound tourism might also have negative impact towards the
political upheaval for some considerable amount of period. In Qatar, tourism increases the level
visual, luminic as well as thermal solution at certain extension. The entire size of Qatar outbound
is relatively small in size and it does not have much scope as only 2 million departures have been
observed at Qatar. However, despite the fact that the total number of outbound is quite small, the
average spending per road trip is $1400, which is huge. It shows a positive trajectory despite the
fact that it makes negative impact towards the entire environment. Different nations such as
Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain cut every form of diplomatic ties with Qatar. Travel ban
has been placed at different places and resulted into port closures as well as flight bans.
A recent statistics showed that the overall market of tourism is making continuous negative
impact towards UK. As an instance, it has been observed that the level of tourism has been
increased from 26% to 46% at the last year and in most cases tourism has been involved directly
or indirectly (Afthanorhan et al., 2017). Moreover, due to unethical competition as well as
extensive pressure of inbound as well as outbound tourists, tour and travel related organisations
are facing many problems, which cannot be minimised by simple means. Moreover, from
different instances it has also been observed that people from less developed or developing
countries visits developed countries as a form of tourist and stay in that developed country for
the majority of their life time (Gursoy et al., 2019). It is continuously increasing refugee related
crisis, which might misbalance the economic, social as well as cultural aspects of different
countries such as UK. In UK, it has been observed that the overall rate of refugee crisis has been
increase from 7% to 33% during the recent year, which is enormous.

There are also some other health related negative impacts that might get posed by tourism sector
as a whole. As an instance, Zlka virus has been spread in global context due to tourism sector,
which might harm the health condition of different individuals in recent context. Overall number
of health scares has been increased from 7 to 33 due to the negative impacts of tourism sector.
According to the recent statistics of global tourism statistics, it has been observed that the overall
negative impact of tourism at the global sector has been increased continuously in recent
instances. However, it has been observed that widely known places for travel and tourism is
facing a bunch of different problems while compared with the lesser known places of travel and
tourism (Dwyer et al., 2016). A recent statistics represented in context to UK, where travellers
has been asked to state their preferred place for travelling.

From the statistics, it has been observed that more than 27% of the local tourists always look
after for visiting new places and 16% of the tourists always avoid popular travel destinations in
order to get rid of complexity. Most of the tourists in local as well as international level are
getting a clear idea regarding the negative aspects of over tourism, which is the key reason they
are avoiding popular tourism places (Carneiro et al., 2018). However, the majority of
respondents state that they do not have any form of problem due to over tourism and they will
not change their tourism destination due to the extensive number of tourists.
In Spain, tourism has created a range of different problems in recent context. As an instance, it
has been observed that their local business has been hampered extensively due to the negative
effects of travel and tourism since most of the money that has been concerned towards big and
famous organisations. Moreover, at the country it has also been observed that the overall cultural
as well as traditional aspects have been affected negatively due to mass arrive of outsiders as a
form of tourists (Zhang et al., 2016). In addition to that, in Thailand and China and many other
places the congestion of traffic can be increased extensively due to the negative effects of travel

and tourism at recent extension. Moreover, in nations like Italy and France has increased their
taxation rate so that they can make subsequent funds towards their local communicates of travel
and tourism destinations. In these two countries, it has been observed that local residents are not
being able to buy properties since the overall value of different properties are increasing at a
continuous manner.
In the overall world, more than 1 billion tourist visits different places. It means every thirty
seconds there are 30 new tourists. It has been expected that the overall number of tourists are
going to be increased by 60% by the end of 2020 financial year. Therefore, it is possible that
famous tourism places are going to be over crowded even in future context, which will ultimately
lead towards environmental instability (Alam and Paramati, 2016). Moreover, the usage of water
is also increasing continuously in different regions, which ultimately resulted towards water
crisis. It has been observed that extensive levels of travel and tourism industry are resulting into
over usage of herbicides as well as pesticides, which also made negative impact at environmental
level.

Conclusion
From this part of the entire assignment, it can be concluded that travel and tourism industry is
causing a range of different problems in global context. Most of these problems are associated
with negative environmental, social as well as cultural levels. Moreover, it can also conclude that
the economic aspects of global tourism are also causing negative aspects at recent instance. In
addition to that, it can also summarised from the following study that local residents belonging
from different locations of the world are needed to pay extra for buying property and other living
substances due to the over tourism. Lastly, it can also conclude that over tourism might disrupt
the environmental balance as well as carbon emission at certain extension.

At the exact part of the study, a situational analysis will be represented from the perspective of
United Kingdom. UK is one of the major markets for different types as well as forms of tourists
and UK contributes a huge percentage towards the global economy at certain instance. At the
following study, visitor market of UK will be described. Moreover, different tourism products as
well as supply and demand of tourism at UK will also be illustrated at the part of this study.
Moreover, the characteristics of UK based tourists as well as the recent trends of tourism will
also be described as the part of this study.

In UK, it has been observed that 39.2 million inbound tourists visit UK at the year of 2016,
which is almost 4% higher in comparison with previous year statistics. In UK, it has been
observed that more than 51% tourists visits London as it is the most popular tourism destination
of entire UK. The number of outbound tourists is 72.8 million, which is also 3% greater in
comparison with the previous year. At the year of 2017, it has been observed that the number of
domestic flights has reached 120.7 million, which is 1% better in comparison with previous year
(Raj and Griffin, 2015). Moreover, it has been observed that the entire travel and tourism
industry contributed more than €68 billion towards the overall economic condition of UK, which
is estimated as 6% of the overall United Kingdom’s GDP at certain extension.
