Assessment 1
Introduction
Tourism can be termed as leaving one city and entering into another city to get the experience of
an unknown environment that provides pleasure to the tourist. The amounts of tourist are
increasing day by day in different countries because of the availability of the best travel
experience (Theobald, 2012).
Travel and tourism industry is the biggest industry in the world and its growing very fast.
Tourism sector includes various tourism industries that provide a facility to people to explore the
world, leisure and fun while travelling. The growth and development of the tourism sector are
very fast because many people are attracting towards travelling to new destinations. They
purchase holiday packages, accommodation and food services from the tourism organization to
get the best travel experience. Tourism is providing various benefits to the society and its people
but it also has a negative impact on the society and environment of different countries. The
society and environment, as well as the economic development of a country, are largely affected
by tourism because of its negative impact on it (Kim et al., 2013).
In that following report, the discussion will be done on the various negative aspect of tourism
have on different countries like the United States, United Kingdom and India.
Negative impact of the tourism of different countries
Negative Impact on the culture
Today, different types of tourist are coming to the UK from different countries. The people are
adopting different culture, language, belief according to their nation and when they come to the
UK they may disturb the culture of UK by publishing their ideas, belied and languages among
others. Many tourists experience the culture and lives of the people of the UK and they change
their perception of thinking (Vijayanand, 2012).
In India, it has been seen that people are coming from different background and region and they
try to change the culture of India by furnishing and distributing their ideas among the public. For
example, foreigners are coming to visit the destination of India and they promote their culture
now people have adopted a foreign culture in terms of clothing and food and that is impacting
the traditional culture of India. Today numbers of people are visiting and the more will increase
in the number of visitors the more will be chances of losing the identity of a place. For example,
Goa is a city of India where hippy culture was at its height and here came thousands of changes
in the culture and resulted in the use of drugs, human trafficking which had a ripple effect on the

country. Tourist and local communities are not respecting each other culture and this has a
negative impact on the lives of the people
Negative impact on society
The rapid expansion of tourism sector affecting the way society interacts with each other. The
tourism is changing habit, behavior, value, belief, social lives and daily routines of the society
because of the availability of the many tourists on a daily basis. The Negative feelings towards
tourism are increasing the immorality of the people of the UK. Many people of the UK are
feeling that they have become a servant for the tourists because they only work for satisfying
needs of the tourist. For example shopkeeper in the area of the destination, they change the way
to interact with each other. The people of the Society do not feel good in their own country
because of crowded places in the country (Yu et al., 2011).
The UK is also suffering from an increased number of populations. Many people are coming to
the UK to take the advantages of job opportunities created by the tourism sector and that is
increasing the population of the country. An Increment in the population is resulting in loss of
identity and culture. It becomes difficult for the society to maintain the identity because numbers
of people are coming from different background and culture on a daily basis. The entrance of
new tourist forcing the society to adapt new changes and that has a negative impact on the lives
of the society the perception regarding tourist may result in immoral behaviour of the society.
Increased transportation and construction of landscape for tourism affecting the local public of
the India they suffer from pollution and water consumption problem they do not feel satisfaction
from the entrance of a higher number of tourist in India every day.
Negative impact on the environment
The environment is a key factor when people decide on their travel location. The tourism
industry is focusing on the fantasy environment to attract customers. Today tourism has become
a large part of the 21st century and the demands for environment-friendly location are increasing.
The large numbers of tourist are visiting the destination of the UK in order to have travelling
experience. They are impacting the environment of the country in a negative manner. They are
harming nature and its useful resources which may create a problem for the society, animals and
economy of the country. The environmental area is largely affected by tourism because visitor
explores and experiences the environment factors (Chancellor et al., 2011). Tourism impacts the
ecosystem of the country through wastage of water, pollution and disturbance to livestock. The
amount of 45% wastage found in Cornwall because of the tourist visited there. An increase in
travel through airline increases carbon dioxide emission and that causes to the environment

through a large amount of pollution. The litter and habitats destroyed by the buildings of the
hotel. Due to a new development of destination places in the UK the environment of the country
is impacting in a negative way because it’s spoiling ecosystem like beaches and mountains (Page
et al., 2012).
The construction of Constantly building tourist location causing pollution in terms of noise and
air pollution from an increase of vehicles and airlines and water pollution is also increasing due
to leakage of fertilizer, road oil and wildlife affecting due to use of resources of a forest like
camping by a tourist. Tree and plants are also getting harmed by the tourist.
The environment of the UK is destroying by the fulfillment of demand of the tourist and it is
affecting the lives of the people. Tourist also consumes a lot of water and that is creating a
problem for local area people there is not enough left for them. Cruise ships are also affecting the
environment because they ignore the environment laws.
The quality lives of the people are getting impacted by the over tourism and this is creating
problem in such destinations as Spain, urban Barcelona, Patagonia and Chile in the US 44
million customers visited 10 parks in 2016 and the national park is looking for the ways which
will reduce the negative impact of the tourism (Singh, 2017).
Hence tourists have a large negative impact on the environment and the government is not taking
any relevant action for reducing this impact. The people are experiencing climate change and
that is the result of carelessness of the tourist.
The negative impact of tourism on the economy
A large number of tourism results in the inflation of the price in small towns of the UK. Due to
the higher wealth of tourist the small shopkeeper sales products at a higher price because they
realize that they can sell their products at a high price as tourists have no idea about the exact
price. It has been seen in England that people have purchased a large number of holiday homes
but used them only on weekends and that lead to shop shutting down because shopkeepers were
not getting profit and that made an impact on the economy of the UK. The tourist sector hiring
employees at the low wages and that is also impacting the economy (Ohlan, 2017).
Terrorism, political changes, natural disasters and impactful weather condition impacting the
economy of the US which is the result of the tourism. Travelling fees go to hotel, airlines and
other big industry and in India, small business owners are not able to gain some profit. Apart
from this big hotels and restaurants hire only staffs to the management position to serve the
foreign customers this reducing the presence of farmers and local employees (Ivanov and
Webster, 2012).

Some countries have suffered from a fall in the tourism sector because of the Asian Tsunami in
2004 and at that time tourist were encouraged to leave Egypt and Tunisia due to the reason of
unrest and protest in 2011.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it is concluded that the tourist sector is having a large amount of
negative impact on the society, economy, culture and environment. The society is getting
affected by the increased number of travellers because it makes destination overcrowded. The
pollution, wastage of resources is done by the tourist that also impacts the environment and
society. The culture of different countries is changing very fast due to expansion in the tourism
industry and this is impacting the lives standard and culture of the people. Hence it can be said
that the negative impact of the tourism affecting the lives of human being and animals because of
its rapid expansion (Papatheodorou et al., 2010).
