Overview of research
Globalisation is the free movement of services, goods and people in all over the globe in
integrated and seamless manner. It is also refers to the market's integration in the global
economy, initiating to the maximised interconnectedness of national economies (Crane,
Kawashima and Kawasaki, 2016). Globalisation is significance process of interaction among
large number of person, company and government of various countries. For this project, Iceland
Foods Ltd is chosen retail industry. This report includes different chapters such as review of
literature , research methodology, data analysis and interpretation, conclusion, recommendation
and reflection. These are main activities which will be use for conducting research over the broad
topic i.e. “To investigate the role of globalisation in driving business success of multinational
organization. Globalisation play an important role in driving business growth and success.
Globalisation will helps an organisation by increasing market share, improving brand image,
maximising customer base etc.
Background of Iceland Foods Ltd.
Iceland is one of the Britain's most innovative and fastest growing retail company and
recognized as one of the best organization to work for in the United Kingdom. Iceland Foods Ltd
is a supermarket chain and deals in retail industry. It was founded in year 1970 by Sir Malcolm
Walker. Company sell Frozen food and different groceries to the customers in different nations.
They also sell non-frozen products such as dairy, meat and dry goods. Iceland foods is a unique
and new British food retailer with over nine hundred stores throughout the United Kingdom.
Thus, company also has their presences at global market but they decide to grow their business
in other place.

The main purpose behind performing this research is to determine the contribution of

important role by giving changes of growth to an organisation so that it develop success at
international level. This research will support an investigate at personal level by improving its
different skills i.e. literature review, data collection, data analysis etc. These skills help an
investigator to do investigation in systematic and accurate manner. In academic manner, this
research also important because it support students by increasing their knowledge about the
significance of globalisation towards accomplishment of business growth and success (Dunne

A literature review refers as a explicit and systematic method for finding in-depth data
about the current investigation. Main aim of this section is to identify conflict in previous study.
In this part of research, each objectives and questions of study will be describe in systematic

of capital, free trade and the tapping of inexpensive foreign labor markets. In simple word,
globalisation is the worldwide movement towards financial, economic, communications and
trade integration. This process implies the opening of national and localist perspectives to a
broader prospect of an interdependent and interconnected world free transfer of services, goods
and capital across national frontiers.
As per the view presented by Ganiya, Yinusa and Lawal, 2016, globalisation as the
geographic dispersion of service and industrial activities, for instance sourcing of factor inputs,
research and development, distribution and production, and the company's cross-border
networking, for instance via sharing of assets and joint venture. Therefore, globalisation is
systematic process through which various organisation expand their business and gain better
outcomes within given time duration.
Importance of globalisation
According to the Gilberthorpe and Hilson, 2016, globalisation played crucial and
effective role within an organisation success and development by providing broader market
place. As it will support Iceland Foods Ltd to offer their products and service in marketplace
without any kind of issues. In addition of this, globalisation also support in goodwill and
increasing market share of organisation as well as that make it more easier to enlarge business.

foreign country there are different number of chances as will as challenges by which an
organisation goes through. There are different challenges or issues faced by company while they
globalise their activities and operations internationally. Some challenges will be determine as
under:
Laws and regulations of specific country: Accurate and comprehensive knowledge of
legislation of specific nation helps an organisation in its success and development. This is that
main issue which company basically face that negatively impact on its business operations and
activities in other countries as each and every nation is different in form of laws and policies of
government (Hanson, Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson, 2016). Thus, improper study about
government's rules and regulation is impact on operations and activities of company in negative
manner.
Cost calculation and pricing strategy at global level: The setting of accurate price of
goods or service according to market situation of specific nation is consider to be the crucial and
significant part of strategy formulation. As it is more essential for sustainability and success of
company. It is also identified being second issue that company face while producing service at
international level because company doesn't enlarge process of its production and only focus on
its marketing activities. As it maximise the product cost but the product price are needed to be
kept per the capabilities of customers within specific nation (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson, 2016).

company at international level. It includes laws and regulations, cost reduction and pricing

Research introduces as a process by which an organisation or researcher can study about
market conditions, customer's needs, competition etc. Therefore, research methodology is
important section for completing investigation in more systematic and accurate manner. In this
part of investigation, different methods will be cover which are determine as under in detail
manner:
Research philosophy: For conducting research, there are two types of philosophy which
are positivism and interpretivisim. For current investigation, interpretivisim philosophy is used
by researcher (Flick, 2015). Main purpose behind choosing this philosophy of research as that it
assist in evaluating qualitative data that make it more easier to draw accurate conclusion out of
present data. On the other side, positivism philosophy is not much appropriate according to the
current study because it take more time of researcher.
Research approach: Within a research, there are basically two types of research
approach used by researcher i.e. inductive and deductive. For identifying role of globalisation,
inductive approach will be apply by researcher. Main reason behind selecting this approach as it
work toward changing the data with the formation of unique theories by using the with test and
hypothesis (Gioia, Corley and Hamilton, 2013). On the other side, deductive approach is also
consider another type of research approach but it is not appropriate for current investigation
because it creates more difficulties for researcher such as time issue, resources etc.
Time horizon: Time is consider most essential part for researcher because without this,
they can not perform research activities timely. Gantt chart introduces as one of the main tool for
time horizon. It is used by researcher for identifying starting and ending time period for research
completion. This chart includes different activities which are determine as under:

Types of research: There are two types of investigation which are qualitative and
quantitative. Qualitative research introduces as an effective process of naturalistic inquiry or

On the other side, quantitative research introduces as the systematic study of phenomena by
collecting quantifiable information and performing computational, mathematical or statistical
techniques (Green, Camilli and Elmore, 2012. Therefore, both types of investigations are
essential but according to the current research, quantitative research method will be use. Main
objective behind selecting quantitative research method as it provides information in detailed and
in depth manner. Qualitative research method is not much appropriate according to current topic
because it is more expensive while selection of sample size out of total population.
Data collection: There are basically two methods for collecting data about the study such
as primary and secondary. Questionnaire will helps an investigator by providing primary
information about the current investigation. While, books, journals, magazines etc. sources assist
a researcher by providing secondary information regarding the study (Kumar, 2019). Therefore,
both sources of data collection is used by researcher for collecting primary and secondary
information about the role of globalisation.

Sampling: It is another method of research which will support an investigator to select
sample size from total population. For selecting sample, probability and non-probability are
consider most important methods of sampling. According to current study, probability sampling
is used by researcher. With the use of this method, 40 respondents is selected. Employees of the
Iceland Foods Ltd are consider main respondents for current investigation. There are different
reasons for selecting probability sampling which are cost effective, less time consuming,
involves lesser degree of judgement etc. Non-probability sampling is not appropriate according
to current topic because it have different drawbacks such as excessive dependency on judgement,
needs much purpose-oriented pollsters and focuses on simplicity over effectiveness (Mackenzie,
Tan, Hoverman and Baldwin, 2012).
Data analysis: For analysing accurate data, there are basically two types of method
which are qualitative and quantitative. Under qualitative data analysis, open-ended questions,
interview etc. method is require. On the other side, for analysing quantitative data, close-ended

Ethical consideration: It is consider most important and useful part of researcher. Ethical
consideration divided into different parts which are informed consent, do not harm, voluntary
participation, anonymity, only assess relevant components and confidentiality. All these are main
consideration which must be use by researcher. As it will support them in completion of research
in ethical and systematic manner (McCusker and Gunaydin, 2015).
Research limitation: There are various limitations faced by researcher while they
conduct research. It includes, lack of time, lack of fund, improper behaviour from respondents
side etc. These are consider main issues which will impact on investigator when they are doing
research activities in systematic manner (Miller and et. al., 2012).
Consider cost, access and ethical issues
During conduction of research an investigator have to put focus over certain area for
accomplishing the appropriate result from the study. In performing this caresser effectively,
researcher has put focus over keeping few amount of fund secure as its require may arise at any
part of investigation. Despite of this, access about some sources are also kept by investigator in
advance so that data can be access from these root whenever necessitate. It aid in showing data

Data analysis is an useful and effective process of analysing accurate amount of data
about the role of globalisation and its importance in improvement of business success and growth
at new market. There are two methods of analysing data which are qualitative and quantitative.
For analysis qualitative information, open-ended questions must be used (Quinlan and et. al.,
2019). On the other side, for analysing quantitative information, close-ended questions is applied
by researcher. Therefore, for analysing data about the importance of globalisation towards
improvement in business development and success, quantitative data analysis will be applied by
researcher. With the help of this method, different number of close-ended questions will be
prepare as under:
