LITERATURE REVIEW
Globalisation
According to Foster, (2016) globalisation has transformed the 21st century in terms of
educational, economic, social and political environment. In this globalised world,
organisations are free to design, sell, create and envisage products in order to enhance their
market share in different nations. In this way, the world is interconnected. It also helps in
raising the economic reliance. Every country requires globalisation to improve relations
between nations to improve every nation’s economic stability. The concept of globalisation is
brought by the requirements of trade between developing and developed nations. World trade
organisation setup the ideology behind that and formed in 1986 as Uruguay Agreement. In
this regards, the international trade was established along with the policies such as without
discrimination and other legal requirements.
As per the views of Isson and Harriott, (2016) business is able to expand their operations in
different countries with globalisation. This helps in managing business resources such as
employees, labour, suppliers and stakeholders in precise manner. They are able to choose
their own destination for business according to the needs such as cheap tax rates, labour rate,
cold or warm place etc. In addition, small businesses are also able to expand their operations
at global level by merging or acquisition. This will help to enhance their capabilities and
resources to create an effective competitive advantage. Thus, in this way globalisation is
delivering positive response towards business to expand their operations at global level.
Globalisation is also improving relationship between different countries and they are helping
each other by satisfying the needs of each other effectively.
Globalisation impact on business
According to Falkner, (2017) there is a great impact of globalisation on business and its
operations. Global organisations are appeared in five elements such as consumer needs,
economies scale, locations, and competition. A lot of support is provided by globalisation in
terms of other countries help to business to produce enough amount of production required to
satisfy the needs. It is shaping the contemporary world. Opportunities and risks are associated
with globalisation and it is the only force has a major impact on world economy and business
operations. In addition, from the point of business, there are both good and bad effects of

globalisation in terms of benefits and drawbacks. As per Laužikas and Dailydaitė., (2015) the
benefits and drawbacks of the impact of globalisation on business are provided below:
Figure 1 Impact of Globalisation
Provide large market: Through globalisation, organisations and nations have now access to
large markets and customer base. The firms are able to expand their operations in other
regions to boost their sales and make money. In this way, organisations operate at large level.
Globalisation is also driving tourism which is helping hospitality sector to acquire a lot of
opportunities effectively.
Cheaper services: The organisations are controlling their production costs with the help of
globalisation. They are moving in various locations where the production, raw materials and
other resources are cheaper. In this regards, they are able to sell cheaper products and
services to customers. Hence, the price of services becomes low for a customer. In hospitality
business, high quality services are required to satisfy the needs and expectation of consumers
effectively.
Better economies: Globalisation is not only providing opportunities to businesses but also
for people in terms of improved wages, effective salary and employment which is increasing t
heir living standard (Pettinger, 2017). The investment made by multinational companies is
strengthening the economy level of that particular country in terms of foreign exchange rates.
There are number of investors are looking for investment opportunities around globe. This
will help the nation to improve their economy level where the investors will make

investments. Since, countries are depending on each other for trade, the economies are also
connected with one another.
Promotes unity and world peace: Globalisation is helping governments by bringing them,
together in order to tackle common issues; for example, the governments are working
towards changing environmental condition to save from pollution and other industrial
activities
Innovation is taking place with globalisation in new business world and now there are
number of ideas generate to expand operations. However, Sullivan and Robinson, (2017)
described some bad impact of globalisation on business which is affecting growth
opportunities and development activities such as:
Environmental damage: One of the major disadvantages of globalisation is that it is
affecting the natural environment. Increased production has a major impact on natural
resources. In this regards, several countries have rules and regulations to prevent activities
that are harmful for environment.
Price fluctuations: In globalised business world, best price wins. Due to heavy competition
in the market, business is managing their price to become competitive to each other. Thus, the
price fluctuates in market and offerings are affected by this. It may affect the company in
terms of lying off employees.
Job insecurity: No doubt, globalisation provides employment opportunities for people and
improving their living standard. Businesses are looking for places where they can get the
labours and raw materials at cheaper prices. In short, they are taking jobs from one to another
country which is also decreasing opportunities for a particular country.
Opportunities gained with globalisation to businesses
It can be said that globalisation is providing number of opportunities for businesses to
improve their productivity and profitability. Hospitality sector is also achieving effective
growth and development with increased tourism through globalisation. However, White,
(2015) said that it is a controversial and complex issue. Globalisation has involved free trade,
labour involvement, capital flows, growth for multinational firms, global trade cycle and
improved transportation. Free trade in this term is a way for nations to exchange resources
and services required by them. A country who is specialise towards production of any good
or service can gain from trade such as low price for customers, greater choice of goods and

domestic manufacturers. In addition, it is also providing better competition to other nations.
As per Charter and Tischner, (2017) enhance labour provide advantages to both countries and
employees. The opportunities increase in countries suffering from unemployment where the
people can look for work in any other nation. The investment made by multinational
companies is strengthening the economy level of that particular country in terms of foreign
exchange rates. The free trade is also affecting the economies scale in developing nations
which is affecting business culture. Globalisation has also contributed to enhanced global
warming and pollution which is increasing regulation for number of businesses.
Globalisation used to drive business performance and success
According to Bendell, (2017) organisations are looking for expansion in order to enhance
their growth, productivity and profitability. In this regards, globalisation is providing t hem
opportunity to increase their market share through entering into new and emerging market.
This is useful to make a large customer base. Although, several strategies are required to
make operations possible at global level
It is very important for the businesses to understand the culture of every country in order to
manage and run operational activities smoothly and effectively. The firms are able to expand
their operations in other regions to boost their sales and make money. High quality services
are required to satisfy the needs and expectation of consumers effectively. In this regards,
businesses are looking for places where they can get the labours and raw materials at cheaper
prices. Small businesses are also able to expand their operations at global level by merging or
acquisition (Bashir and Verma, 2017). This will help to enhance their capabilities and
resources to create an effective competitive advantage.

RESEARCH APPROACH AND METHODOLOGIES
It can be said that, investigator will require research methodologies in order to
complete the study in a precise and effective manner to create framework. Investigator
require to make effective use of methodologies to achieve the objectives and aim associated
with research effectively.
Research Philosophy: The selection of philosophy is a crucial part in research methodology.
It is important for the researcher to consider the philosophy to deal with the nature, source
and development of knowledge (Carey and Asbury, 2016). There are four types of research
philosophies available for researcher in order to conduct the study such as interpretivism,
positivism, pragmatism and realism. All have their own type of importance within study. In
this regards, the scholar will make use of positivism philosophy that it is useful in spotting
the credible and tangible information effectively.
Research Approach: The approach for research is also very important in order to complete
study effectively. Several steps are involved in a research approach that helps in making
valuable assumptions for scholar towards the data collection procedure and description
(Olohan, 2017). There are generally two types of approach such as deductive and inductive
available for scholar. Inductive approach helps in attaining the study questions whereas the
deductive is used to deliver justifications for the data. For the current study, scholar will use
the inductive approach to attain the investigation questions.
Research Design: Research design can be described as an overall strategy used by the
investigator in order to determine the investigation components in logical and coherent way.
In this regards, exploratory, casual, descriptive are some types of design available for
investigator. Thus, researcher will make use of exploratory research design to answer the
questions effectively. This will help investigator to analyse impact of globalisation in driving
Hilton hotel success.
Research Strategy: Strategy works as an action plan for the researcher that it helps in
providing proper and accurate guidance to accomplish the objectives and aim associated with
the case study. Strategy is effective in conducting systematic investigation to produce
coherent and positive outcomes (Weber, 2017). In this regards, meta-analysis, case study,
quantitative and qualitative are some strategies available for the researcher. For the current
investigation, researcher will make use of qualitative research where interview process will
be made to collect information to achieve the aim of study.

Data Collection: This is one of the most important part of the investigation that helps in
collecting information and data regarding topic in precise manner. In this regards, there are
two methods of collecting information are available for investigator such as primary and
secondary. Primary method is used to collect information through questionnaire process
where the questions will be open-ended. In secondary method, information is collected
through authentic sources such as newspapers, magazines, books, online blogs and websites.
Hence, for this research, scholar will use the primary data collection method in order to
acquire fresh information effectively.
Sampling: It is very difficult for the investigator to carry out the research among whole
population. Thus, there is a need for researcher to collect a sample of people to conduct the
research (Daniel, 2018). In this regards, there are two types of sampling methods available
for investigator such as probability and non-probability. For the present study of analysing
the impact of globalisation in driving business success of Hilton hotel, the researcher will
make use of probability sampling method in which random will be used. In this regards, 20
managers will be selected as a sample for the case study. They will be provided with the
questionnaire.
Data Analysis: For the present research which is analysing the impact of globalisation in
driving business success of Hilton Hotels, information and data will be analysed by the
scholar with the help of qualitative method such as questionnaire. The information will be
analysed using themes and their interpretation in order to produce better results to conduct the
research effectively.
Accessibility issues: The scholar will face some accessibility issues while collecting the
information and data regarding study. Some of the information is not provided by participants
due to the permission required from the top management. Some of the information is also
secured with password and ID. In this regards, the problem is solved by the investigator by
granting permission from the top management of organisations to their managers so that the
questionnaire process can produce quality results effectively.
Ethical issues: It can be said that there are number of ethical issues must be considered by
the researcher while conducting the research in order to manage the effectiveness of the
investigation (Pardo and Prato, 2016). It is the responsibility of the investigator to manage the
autonomy and confidentiality of the investigation and personal information provided by the
participants. In addition, the questions do not harm the motivation, ethics or morale of the
9
Document Page
participants. They should not be forced to provide their answers. As these are some ethical
issues could be faced by the scholar while conducting the study effectively.
