CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Research Proposal
(i) Research project description
Globalisation is considered as most widely concept which helps organisation in moving
their business at international level. It gives opportunities to corporations to increase productivity
of business by people mobility, changes in organisational structure and culture, develop
competitive strategies etc. The present research is going to study on evaluation of the positive
key factors of globalisation that enhance productivity of operational activities of at a company
(Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez, 2013). For this purpose, Carrefour is taken that deals in supermarket
chain and offers a wide variety of food and non-food stuffs at its retail stores. It is a French
multinational company and headquartered in Boulogne Billancourt, France. Due to globalisation,
respective organisation gain opportunity to expand its business in more than 30 countries with
12,000 stores and provide employment to over 380k employees. To evaluate the importance of
globalisation for chosen company, both qualitative and quantitative techniques are used in this
research.
(ii) Research aim and objectives
Research aim: To determine the positive impact of globalisation on operational activities of
global companies.” A case study on Carrefour UK.
Research objectives
To identify the role of globalisation in international organisation.
To evaluate the importance of different operations of Carrefour that helps in operating
business at global level

(iii) Rationale behind research
The main reason behind chosen this topic i.e. impact of globalisation at operations and
function of global companies, they need to get chance to understand such a large topic. This
would aid project makers to analyse how to work with a team and conduct different activities for
completing the research. Working on the topic globalisation, will help in analysing ways by
which a company can operate its business at global level, more successfully.
(iv) Activities and Timescale
For carrying out a project, a research team usually conducts a number activities in a
definite period of time, to obtain outcomes in given period. In context with present research,
various activities are being carried out to analyse the concept of globalisation as given below:-
Introduction- This is the initial step in research that provides entire detail about background of
company and study, significance and scope of the same. It will take near about 2 days for making
a description of entire project briefly by researchers.
Aims and objectives- It is the most important step, where project makers set aims and objectives
to conduct the study (Apăvăloaie, 2014). This will provide specific direction to project makers
for conducting entire research. For carrying out mention activity, research team will take
approximately three days.
Literature review- It provides description of research topic through various authors point of
view. This would help in gathering data for addressing specific issues. In this regard, for
conducting literature review by secondary sources, near about 12 days are required.
Research methodology- It refers to a process of gathering both primary and secondary data, to
gather adequate amount of information. For this purpose, 15 days will be taken by researchers in
order to analyse which approaches proves better to collect relevant information on globalisation
and its impact on business.
Analysis of data- Data which is collected by secondary and primary source, are organised,
interpreted and then analysed in this part. For this assistance, near about 12 days are required for
analysing the data and make discussion on it.
Conclusion and recommendations- After interpreting and analysing the data, conclusion and
recommendations will be made to provide suggestion to company by which it can overcome
from its describing issues to perform well (Appel, Franz and Hassler, 2014). For this purpose,

Submission of final report- It will be done in one day after completing entire activities of

Chart technique is used. It refers to pictorial representation of research activities which are plot

3.1 Research Approaches

used for data collection and interpretation of data to represent core of information. Research
methods are techniques for discovering new or uncovered information that helps in better
understanding of topic. Data collected and analysed in research enables team to organize their

population from selected part that is sample (Carneiro and Brenes, 2014). It enables to
determine a population character by directly observing only an potion of population. In this
researcher use convenience sampling technique to collect data for research. Under this research,
10 respondents have been selected from Carrefour's stakeholders to take their feedbacks for
running business effectively. .
(ii) Data analysis- Data is gathered under present research by main two sources viz.
primary and secondary. Primary source is used to collect original and unused information by
conducting a survey on chosen respondents. whereas, under secondary, books and journals are
used to collect data from past recorded information.

(iii) Cost, access and ethical considerations- Ethical consideration is very important in
conducting a research. Research conducted by researcher contains information about
