TITLE:
“How globalisation can drive business success.” A study on ASDA.
INTRODUCTION
Background of research
Globalisation refers to the process of interaction and integration among individuals,
organisations and political parties at world wide level. In globalisation, there is free movement of
goods, services in different parts of country to make available for every one (Auer, Borio and
Filardo, 2017). There is movement of goods and services at world wide level, so there is
financial trade transactions as well. Hence there is terms on the basis of financial, political, social
aspect as well. With operating at global level, there is benefit to company and nation as well.
There are some rules and regulations which has to be followed by organisation in order to
successfully run at international level. This research is based on ASDA which is British super
market retailer established in 1949. this company has headquarter in Leeds UK founded by J.W.
Hindell. Parent organisation of ASDA is Walmart.
Overview of research
In this research there is discussion about role of globalisation in driving business success.
These days there is government policies through which organisations can operate in more than
one country. In this research there is discussion about ASDA in improving productivity and
probability of company. When ASDA operate in more than one country, then there is increment
in consumer's base, productivity, etc. which assist in improving profitability of organisation. It is
important to understand changes which is specific and relevant in context to external market in
order to get success.
At international level, there are many organisations of retail sector such as ALDI, LIDL,
etc. hence there is more competition at global level. So it is important to innovate new and
innovative approach through which managers of ASDA can excel in market (Coker, 2014).
There are negative aspects as well such as change in demand of consumer, costly approach,
employee's engagement, etc. which affects organisation's performance at international level.

arise while operating at international level.
Research Questions
Do you understand the concept of globalisation?
What is the impact of globalisation on productivity and profitability of ASDA?
What are the issues arise that arise while operating at global level?
What are the ways through which correct measures can be taken to overcome issues arise
while operating at international level?
Rationale of research
This research topic is collected because these days, there is more emphasise on
globalisation of business. With conducting this it is easy for researcher to understand impact on
business growth and issue which can arise while dealing at international level. If researcher
wants to explore business at international level, then he/ she can explore it easily because they
have knowledge about it. This research topic is interesting, so it is easy to understand to collect
data from respondents (Eaton and Kilby, 2015).

LITERATURE REVIEW
Concept of globalisation
According to Eric Reed, 2019 globalisation is interconnection among nations of two
countries for the purpose of trade, banking, investment, etc. Hence under globalisation, there are
some policies which has to be followed by managers of organisation. With conducting operations
in more than one country, there is more productivity for satisfying demand of consumers. There
are some factors such as competitive environment, number of rivalries, cost of execution of
business, etc. which has to be considered by managers of ASDA while they are expanding their
business at global level.
There are some political policies which has to be considered by managers such as tax
rate, sources of finance, interest rate, etc. which affects decision related to expansion of business.
With globalisation of organisations, there is impact on economic growth of country which
includes growth in GPD, inflation rate, employment rate, etc. So government policies frame
policies through which promotion of foreign investment is done.
Impact of globalisation on productivity and profitability of ASDA
In globalisation business operations are conducted in more than one country, so there is
improvement in sales and profits. In order to get positive impact on production and profits, it is
important to analyse demand of consumers. At international level, there are many organisations
of retail sector, so consumer has more options of selecting other brand. According to Tasnim B.
Kazi, 2019 while globalising business at international level, it is important to make strategies
through which brand image of association can be maintained. Managers of ASDA make
marketing policies through which can communicate with consumers and create awareness among
them.
There is positive impact on productivity and profits of ASDA when they work at global
level if regular market analysis is done. Legal aspects for globalisation has to be considered in
order to conduct business operations smoothly. Managers has to plan operations for execution of
operations such as finance planning, resource planning, human resources, etc. so cost of
operating cost can be minimised which gives opportunity of higher profits and productivity.

Issues that arise while operating at global level
Operating business at global level sounds good, but there are some issues which affects
performance of ASDA at international level. So it is responsibility of managers to analyse issues
and resolve them. In case of lack of planning, business may get fail at international level and
brand image in existing market can also go down. According to Katie Reyonalds, 2017 there is
issue regarding company structure at international level, international accounting, laws and
regulations, currency rate, political risks, environmental issues, cost and pricing strategy, etc.
which affects decision of managers and affects growth in international market.
As there is difference in currency rate of countries, so there are possibilities that price at
the time of purchase and sales is differences. So in this case, there are possibility that there is
over or undervaluation of products and services. There is difference in accounting concept of
country. Hence managers of ASDA may feel issue in showing their books of accounts to
shareholders.
Ways through which correct measures can be taken to overcome issues arise while operating at
international level
In order to get success at international level, thee are some measures. For instance, there
are some individuals who are working at international level on the behalf of association, then in
this case there is possibility of issue related to communication. There is requirement of proper
knowledge to individuals regarding their roles and responsibilities. Employees goals and
objectives are required to be analysed, so organisational goals are achieved. According to Zajda,
2015, Employees motivation and participation is essential they act on the behalf of ASDA in
front of consumers. In case of any negative comment from consumers, then it is responsibility of
managers to resolve it.
Planning is core component to resolve all the issues faced by managers of ASDA while
operating at international level. Due to lack of planning, then there is confusion in roles and
responsibilities and possibilities of duplication of activities is high.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research is the process through which in- depth investigation is done in order to collect
relevant information about research topic. There is use of some tools and techniques which helps
to make reliable and authentic (Fjäder, 2014). So these tools and techniques are discussed under
research methodology. This can be understood with the help of frame work “Research Onion”
which covers tools and techniques to conduct research and make it more authentic.
Research approach- Research approach is plan and procedure which provides
information about step to step conduction of research. There are two methods of research
approach i.e. deductive and inductive. In this research, deductive approach is used because this
approach is more focused on ways through which information is collected from sorted sources.
Hence more specific information as per research topic is presented in research.
Research philosophy- Research philosophy is belief about way through which
information is collected for the purpose of interpretation. There are three types of research
philosophy i.e. positivism, pragmatism and interpretivist. In this research pragmatism is used
because this yield better returns as compared to other philosophies. This suits best with all other
techniques while conducting research.
Research methods- There are two methods to conduct research i.e. qualitative and
quantitative research. Qualitative research methods is best because it provides justification
behind specific view of respondents. This is conducted in structured format, so information
delivered can easily delivered to reader. While in quantitative method is used in which statistical
data with scientific approach is used. In this research qualitative research method is used.
Research technique- There are different techniques such as case study, interview,
questionnaire, focus group, etc. which are used to collect information about research topic. In
this research questionnaire is used. Questionnaire is set of some questions related to research
topic and views are collected as per it.
Data collection tool- Data collection is one of the major aspect which has to be
considered by research because this is the base to provide interpretation. There are two methods
through which data collection is possible i.e. primary and secondary sources (Hasanen, Al-
Kandari and Al-Sharoufi, 2014). Primary source is the technique in which researcher collects
information on their own through questionnaire, personal interview, etc. This method is time
5
Document Page
consuming because personal interaction with respondents is done but most reliable because
reliable and authentic data is collected.
While secondary information is the way in which information and data is collected
through online sources, books, journals, etc. This provides complete overview about research
topic, so knowledge about it can be gained (Miljkovic and et. al., 2015). In this research
information is collected from both the sources to make research authentic and faithful.
Research sapling- Sampling is the way in which some respondents are selected out of
group of individuals in order to collect their views on the basis of which interpretation about
research topic is done. This is the way to collect general overview about research topic because it
is not possible to collect data from whole population.
There are two methods of research sampling i.e. random and non random. In this research
random sampling is used because with use of this method, there is no possibility of biasness as
equal possibility for every individual to get selected. In this research sample of 50 employees is
selected to collect primary data.
Research budget- There is required of some resources such as computer system, internet
connection, etc. which helps to conduct research in appropriate manner. Budget for this research
is £450 set by research before starting research.
Research limitation- While conducting this research, there is limitation of time. So
researcher is not able to collect information from more respondents. Apart from this there is issue
because individuals from whom views are collected does not revert on time (Thomas, 2017). So
researcher have to get back to them again and again.

TIMELINE OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
There are many activities conducted while conducting research such as introduction,
setting aims and objectives, literature review, etc. so research is time consuming aspects. Hence
there is a technique i.e. Gantt Chart which provides complete information about time required to
complete research. Gantt chart is the pictorial description about research activities with its
schedule (Yu, Byun and Lee, 2014). In this research activities are shown through vertical axis
and time interval is shown through horizontal bars. Width between horizontal bars shows
duration required by each activity. Hence with use of Gantt Chart it is easy to understand time
required to conduct each activity of research with its synchronisation.
Gantt chart helps to teammates to understand activity which has to be conducted one after
other, so possibilities of confusion is nil. It is easy for researcher to identify progress rate of
project and critical path is provided through which best way to achieve aims and objectives with
minimum time is possible. There are less possibilities of resources overloading so project will be
come cost effective. Advantage of using Gantt chart is there is more clarity regarding performing
research activities to team mates which assist in managing time. Time required to conduct
research of globalisation is approach 7.5 weeks.
