Students will choose their own organisation/s as a context to carry out the research
on the topic selected. The project must be related to their specialist pathway of
study (unless the student is studying the general business pathway). This will
enable students to explore and examine a relevant and current topical aspect of
business in the context of the business environment and their chosen specialist
pathway.
Assignment Scenario:
The OECD defines globalisation as the following. ‘’The geographic dispersion of
industrial and service activities, for example research development, sourcing of
factor inputs, production and distribution, and the cross –border networking of
companies, for example through joint ventures and the sharing of assets.’’
The key implications of globalisation for business include:
the increasing trade across borders of goods and services,
increasing levels of labour migration between countries,
the emergence of global brands,
greater outsourcing and offshoring of production,
expansion of foreign direct investment.
Globalisation has led to increasing competition and an economic and financial shift
from developing to emerging economies. It promotes a sense of cultural awareness,
international co-operation and global economic inter-dependency. Those multi-
national companies that are successful have had to devise and customise new
strategies for doing business in emerging markets and implement new business
models to stay ahead of the competition.
1. Choosing a research topic:
Strong research projects are those with clear, well focused and defined objectives.
A central skill in selecting a research objective is the ability to select a suitable and
focused research objective. One of the best ways to do this is to put it in the form
of a question. Students should discuss a variety of topics related to the theme and
generate ideas for a good research objective.
Students may choose a research topic from the list below. An alternative topic
that relates to the overall theme (Globalisation) may be selected but this must be
approved by the tutor:
The benefits and drawbacks of a global business environment
Document Page
How globalisation can drive business success
The benefits and the risks of offshoring and outsourcing
The interrelationship between global business and global politics and the
challenges that can create
The different strategies employed by businesses to enter emerging markets
Competing with multinational companies and survival strategies for local
companies in emerging markets
The impact of globalisation on the corporate structures of large multinational
companies and the major challenges they face.
Students should get the tutor’s approval for any topic chosen for the
research under the theme of Globalization.
2. Students are to choose their own organisation to carry out the research activities.
Students should chose a topic related to the theme and from there to generate
ideas for a good research objectives. This will form the basis of their project and
must be related to their specific pathway, unless the student is on the general
business pathway.
3. This unit is completed over two terms. In the first term of teaching,
students are required to complete a Research Proposal in the prescribed
form. This is covered under PART 1 below. In the second term of
teaching, students are required to complete the research as planned in
the research proposal and produce a Research Report and present to
intended audience. This is covered under Part 2 below.

complete work for this unit.
Consider the development of a methodical and valid research proposal as the
foundation for the project.
Choose a topic relevant to the prescribed theme and related to your pathways.
Stick to the topic as specified on your Proposal form
The topic chosen should allow a sufficient and suitable degree of research through
the existence of adequate background materials as questionnaires, data collection
sheet, excel workouts etc.
A good project proposal title should meet the following criteria: The proposal is
one that has an existing body of literature or source material that can be
reviewed. The proposal extends a current line of learning that will lend itself to
further rigorous exploration.
Decide on appropriate research methods and select an appropriate sample size.
Ensure that the proposal is ethical, reliable and valid. An ethics form must be
submitted prior to commencement of research as part of the research proposal.
Agree the research proposal with your tutor before beginning the research
project.
Define your research problem or question, this can be stated as a research
question, through objectives or as a hypothesis.
Provide a literature review giving the background and conceptualisation of the
proposed area of study. This would provide existing knowledge and the gaps which
could be fulfilled by the proposed research.
Consider and define research methodology and research process. Demonstrate
understanding of the pitfalls and limitations of the methods chosen and ethical
issues that might arise.
Keep track of findings as you work.
Carry out the research, analyse research findings in relation to your original
question and draw conclusions. Apply both qualitative and quantitative research

to improve, why the topic is important):
Rationale
The above topic is chosen due to personal
interest regarding the expansion of the
business into new market. The topic is has
significance as many companies fails due to
diligence regarding the entry and unforeseen
complication into market. This will help in
developing the presentation skills and
knowledge regarding the different strategy used
by business for working into new country. As
this is very interesting area for researcher
because scholar has studied the same subject
and has worked in the international company.
Hence conducting research on the same topic is
interesting area for researcher which would be
better for their career as well.
Section Three: Literature sources searched
Use of key literature sources to support your
research question, objective or hypothesis:
According to Ruhl and Willis, (2017) the most of
employed theoretical perspectives to enter into new
market depends on the transaction cost theory and
institutional theory. On the other hand the Lindsay,
Rod and Ashill, (2017)argued that there is necessity
for the framework of combining factors other than the
theory itself. The author also stated that along with
transaction cost theory and institutional theory, there
are involvement of two more theory that is resource
based view and Dunning's electric framework.
According to De Villa, Rajwani and Lawton,(2015)
infrastructure is essential in execution of business
model. On the other hand the argued that the
infrastructure are absent or underdeveloped at time of
entering into new market. The author also added that
the companies fails to find the skilled market research

firms for the reliable information about current trends
and preference of customers.
According to Hernández and Nieto, (2015) the
company fails to understand the different
challenges in expansing the business and
entering into new market. Author also
supported the that company fails to identify
market need and cultural nuance differences. On
the other hand the Ahi and et.al., (2017) argued
that having the reliable partners with
relationship with distributors would help in
seeking the market which can tired to be
challenging task for company.
Section Four: Activities and timescales

Section Five: Research approach and
methodologies
What type of research approach and
methodologies are you likely to use and why?
What your areas of research will cover:
Research methodology.
Qualitative research will be done to achieve the
aims and objection of particular study. interpretivism
research philosophy will be used along with inductive
research approach. In inductive approach the data will
be collected from relevant topics of study. The
research design will be descriptive and data collection
will be done through secondary resources. With the
proper analysing of theories and secondary data
analysis the research will be accomplished. Research

will be done keeping the keys points of ethical
consideration in mind.
Researcher will take assistance of inductive
approach, as involvement of theories would be
suitable for answering research problems based of
strategies that are being employed by companies to
successfully run the operation in new market. Study
would be completely qualitative in nature as no
calculation will be involved to answer any research
question. Furthermore, research is going to select
random sampling tool, this is simple method to involve
the correct samples in the investigation.
Primary data collection method is more suitable
for this study because by using this technique scholar
would be able to get fresh and actual facts related to
effectiveness of different market entry strategies.
