Introduction
Globalization can be defined as the procedure facilitating integration and interaction
amongst people, government and companies worldwide. Globalization also depicts the state
of interconnectedness through the medium of communication technologies, transportation
and movement of people, goods, and services (Steger, 2017). The process which creates and
indicates growth, positive change, the progress of economic, demographic, environmental,
social and physical components is known as development. Development can also be
witnessed through the ongoing improvement in the standard of living and socio-economic
progress (Goldin, 2018). The purpose of the paper is to discuss and project views regarding
the evidence of globalization and development in Indian contexts. The paper will identify the
visible aspects of development along with the unseen or hidden aspects regarding the process
of globalization and development based on the images and story about a city and with the
national perspective of India. The paper can be concluded by summarizing the significant
points deducted from the outcome of globalization and development.

Evidence of globalization and development and unseen aspects:
The process and outcome of globalization have projected various evidence and
positive effects on the growth of the nation. Understanding and assessing the areas
experiencing development can witness these pieces of evidence. The evidence can be
witnessed in Indian contexts through the outcome of:
 Elevated foreign investment opportunities in the Indian context
 Greater cultural exchange due to the progressive movement of people and goods from
one area to another (Steger, 2017).
 Exposure of the markets in India with foreign goods and services

 Improving the quality of the offerings in the market due to an increased level of
competition amongst national and international ventures (Steger, 2017).
 Digital advancements have resulted in the elimination of communication barriers
caused by making the evident distance insignificant
 Improved technological integration has resulted in the inefficiency of local sectors,
leading to increased employment opportunities
 Globalization and Development can also be witnessed in the field of transportation
with the improved and more accessible state of air-travel and enabling greater
movement amongst people and of goods all around the world (Goyal & Singh, 2016).
 The evidence can be experienced in the ease and improved state of mobility in capital
flow marking the elimination of capital barriers and enabling global
interconnectedness in the globalized financial market (Goyal, 2018).
 Rise of infrastructural development and Multi-national corporation
 The improved educational system in India has resulted in the growth quality
workforce
The significant pieces of evidence witnessed due to the implication of globalization and
development usually hide various challenging or negative consequences regarding the
transformations, which cannot be avoided in the long run. The hidden aspects of globalization
and development are:
 Replacement of labours or cheap labours: Although, technological advancements have
upgraded the processes and quality of performing business areas as automation has
also resulted in the replacement of labourers in India. India is also becoming the prey
of cheap labours, which cannot be ignored under the projection of increasing
employment with the globalized market (Steger, 2017).

 India is also losing its individualistic culture in various parts of the country, especially
in the metropolitan cities like Delhi, which has developed a mixed culture, where the
old heritage is losing its identity (Sharma & Joshi, 2019).
 Another hidden or avoided consequence of globalization and development is the
impact on climate change with the growth of technology and transportation.
Depiction about the images:
The images of different parts and aspects in India effectively capture the essence of
both progressive growth and stagnancy. These images depict both positive and hidden or
avoided truths regarding the implication of globalization and development. In the first few
images, one of the Seven Wonders of the World can be witnessed but under the coverage of
smog, which indicates a heavy rate of pollution mixed with fog, depicting the hidden
consequences of developing transportations and industrial development. The dominance of
agriculture in India can also be witnessed, which demands equitable and focussed attention as
any other area of business, as it denotes one of the crucial sectors of economic and
sustainability (Bourguignon, 2017). In the next set of images, the complete contrast of food
and grocery market can be witnessed, which indicates the harsh reality of dominating local
vendors and businesses with the infrastructural development of supermarkets and malls. Next
images portray the prevalence of poor populations all throughout India without any influence
from the mass phenomenon of globalization. Handicraft and small-scale businesses are the
sign of development in India, which has employed people from all around without focussing
on gender dominance (Steger, 2017). However, with the increasing number of international
businesses and fast fashion existent in malls, these small-scale businesses can be negatively
impacted. On one side, the images portray the sign or reflection of development and another
side portrays the hidden or avoided regions, such as slums, which are still untouched by the
positive impacts of globalization marking doubt for its efficiency. On one side, children can

be seen attending schools marking the positive implications of globalization in India. On the
other side, a child is seen in colors and another is seen engraved with dirt. However,
globalization and development have integrated development in society and the environment
with the contribution of industry players in the name of CSR (Corporate Social
Responsibilities). The last set of images portrays the consistent presence of spirituality in
India's culture by the acceptance of international brands and the aspect of democracy.
The meaning of the images can vary in the context of origin, perspective, and
intention. A tourist or a person from the west will understand the images as the mixed culture
and states of India, which makes the identity of the company, a tourist may enjoy the
underdeveloped regions of India, thinking it as an old heritage and at the same time can
witness the ill effects of pollution without been ignorant. An NGO will witness the images
with the intent of improving the condition and reducing the dominance of globalization.
Things, people, and aspects unseen:
The rich or the privileged population, who are experiencing the positive influences
from globalization and development stops noticing the negative or untouched areas of
development. They start projecting the world as their resources to utilize by engrossing their
efforts and investment in self-development without recognizing the underdeveloped regions
of the country (Roy, 1998). Authoritative institutions and positions also stop seeing the
potential areas of development by only concentrating on international businesses and
automation or digitalization. The focus has been shifted from cohesive development through
investment in local businesses to bringing international businesses for participating in
globalization. This practice is elevating due to the intent of self-benefits and the
underestimation of developing underdeveloped regions and local businesses.

Therefore, it can be concluded from the paper that globalization in India portrays both
sides of the scenario, both positive and negative even though the negative effects or the
untouched areas are avoided by the privileged. Globalization processes need to be practiced
and recognized with the intent of overall development for bringing changes that can lead to
ultimate growth in the country
