Executive Summary
The primary purpose of this report is to elucidate on the main concept in relation to the two
articles. It highlights the main ideas of the articles and the rationale for the selection of the
articles. It elaborates on how the ideas of the article have helped in broadening my
knowledge.

Globalization that is prevalent in the current era has brought about great changes in
the field of business. The role pertaining to national government has been minimalized on
account of neo-liberal globalization. Nation state remains as the primary democratic entity
but is functionality has been greatly reduced in the present age. Global economy has brought
about great amount of changes and has paved the path for structural transformation.
Integrated network in relation to world trade has developed in the present age (Min and
Smyth 2014). I have selected the articles because these topics can prove to be of great
significance in the current age on account of the changes taking place in the world economy.

The article talks regarding how the corporations act as central players in relation to
global as compared to nations. It talks about how a drift is taking place in the new world
towards that of cosmopolitanism where the citizens are excluded from the polity.
The rationale for the selection of the article arises due to the role played by neoliberal
globalisation in the present era. It states the growing popularity of the left is on account of the
fact that it wants to build a society that is more inclusive in nature.
The key ideas pertaining to the article relates to the viewpoint of the right who
conceive of “tradition” to be like heritage and it evokes a myth in relation to purity. The
minorities are at the center stage of and they are uncertain that has been exacerbated on
account of the inability of states of securing economic sovereignty (Younge 2014). Neo-
liberal policies acts as the main driver in relation to globalization and globalization can be
considered to be an effect in relation to neo-liberalism. Economic liberalism lays stress on

maximising freedom in relation to the individuals that can help in reducing the state
intervention. It advocates the removal of restrictions on that of transnational movement in
relation to the goods. Corporate social responsibility aids in the process of generation of
positive publicity and it helps in providing access to that of investment (Dignam and Galanis
2016). A company can be labelled to be ethical if it adopts certain policies that can be
favourable for the public. The article talks about the significance of minorities and it talks
about tolerance towards that of the collective stranger. In the similar strain, corporate social
responsibility helps a company in reaching out to those people who are in need of some kind
of help.
The information that I find valuable in the article relates to how the concept of
corporation have emerged as major players in relation to global affairs as compared to that of
nations. I was able to learn that multi-national companies do not have any kind of
parochialism which limits them within a specific time or that of space (Cumming et al. 2017).

This article talks about how globalization is related to that of corporate power. The
structural transformation has taken place in the global economy in the present era. The
evolving of an integrated network in relation to world trade have taken place with the help of
two separate stages. This article discusses how structural transformation can be deemed to be
like corporate globalization (Brinkman and Brinkman 2002). The dominance of the multi-
national companies have brought sovereignty under question. The issue that has been raised

in the article pertains to whether the nation states or the multi-national corporations will
control the process of globalization.
The rationale for the selection of the article is owing to the fact that globalization has
taken centre stage in the current age and this has brought about a lot of changes in relation to
sovereignty pertaining to the nation states. The role played by the state is greatly discussed
about in the age of globalization and hence I have selected this article because the content of
the article is greatly relevant in the present age.
The article talks about how the new kinds of business opportunities need new kind of
business model that can help in the integration of the operations of the different locations.
The integration of the operations diminishes the scope in relation to national industrial policy.
Business models is dependent on that of integration of the different kinds of operations and
any kind of government policy can have a negative impact in relation to competitiveness
pertaining to a particular firm. This helps in relating to the concept of ethical decision making
because the new kind of business model would need ethical decision-making on the part of
the different companies. The age of multi-national corporations will demand that the
conglomerates start thinking in a fashion that will not only suit their own organisation but
also the franchises that are operating in different kinds of locations (Crane and Matten 2016).
Ethical thinking is greatly desirable in the modern age so that a business can create a position
in the international arena. This article elaborates on how the changing times have made the
states a protector as compared to that of a controller. State sovereignty has greatly been
reduced in the age of globalization and the state instead of an authoritative figure has
emerged to become a dependent figure (O’Mahony and Mason 2017).
The information that I find valuable in the article is how the factor of globalization is
bound up with that of corporate power. The structural transformation that has enveloped the

global economy has brought about great changes in the corporate structure of a company. It
discusses the changing role of the states as most of the states depend on that of the others.
The article provides one with immense knowledge regarding how initially the states were
sovereign but the modern age has greatly curbed the power of the state. Power in the present
age is conceived to be more economic as compared to that of political progress and the states
are becoming more developmental. The article shows that stronger relationship has been
created between the states on account of globalization. The international networks are leading
to the eroding of the aspect of sovereignty and the state in the present era has to negotiate
with the other parts thus giving rise to multi-level governance.
