INTRODUCTION
Globalization is a process of operating business at international level and can be a process
of integration with the customers with social and cultural aspects. It defines the way by which
countries and people of the world interact and integrate. It is process by which people and
organisation operate their business internationally to fulfil consumers demands and needs
(Agyeman and McEntee, 2014). Globalization is considered as a vast aspect that plays crucial
role in growth and development of an organisation. It is essential and effective in increasing
business operations at wide scale in respect to attaining higher growth and success within
commercial centre. This research is related with on Waitrose & Partners which is a chain of
British supermarket. It deals in food retail division of Britain's largest employee-owned retailer.
This firm established by Wallace Waite, Arthur Rose and David Taylor in 1908 and
headquartered Berkshire, England. The main purpose of this report is to understand different
aim, objectives and required gaols of the research project fro analysing the growth of the
company. In this research will be covered about the research approach and different
methodologies such as sampling, data analysis and others. Further will be included about data
collection, ethical consideration and recommendation.
TASK 1
Research Proposal
a) Research project description
This project is related to the globalisation which is a chain of activities to interact with
people and organisation, firm and government of different nations. It can be a process of
interaction with the international consumers so that the organisation get information about their
life style and culture or provide products according them. This research will be discussed about
the positive economic, ethical and cultural impact of globalisation on operations of Waitrose
(Azzimonti, De Francisco and Quadrini, 2014). It is a food retailer which operates a chain of
supermarkets in England, Scotland and Wales. It sells groceries such as milk, meat fruit, beers
and other various products. This company has 353 shops across the United Kingdom, including
65 little Waitrose convenience shops. 5.1% share of market making it the sixth largest retailer of
groceries in the UK. This firm export its products to 52 countries of the world and there are
52,590 employees are working under it.

b) Research aim and objectives
Aim: “To investigate the positive, economic, ethical and cultural impact on operations of food
retail industry”.
Objectives:
To determine the impact of globalization on food retail (Beck, 2018).
To collect and analyse secondary and primary data reflecting to benefits of globalization
on Waitrose.
To present the clockwise effect of globalization at Waitrose.
To investigate the positive economic and cultural influence on the online operations of
Waitrose.
c)Reasons of choosing this research project
The researcher chose this topic to understand and analyse the impact of globalization on
food retail.
d) Activities and time scales
Time scale is a time framework which is necessary and important for measuring and
monstering of time frame while the researcher persuading various activities in a project. The
researcher, in some operations deciding about aims and objectives, designing management plan
with conducting primary and secondary research. These kind of activities consume minimum
amount of time in completing in an effective manner. For this, the researcher can use Gantt Chart
and time scale to provide a time duration by that all research works and procedures to
accomplish tasks and a specified time duration which is provided to each task. Gantt chart is an
chart which bifurcate worsk and activities in small slots so that they can help them. This chart
include the tasks to be performed on the vertical axis and time intervals on the horizontal axis. In
the graph, the width of the horizontal bars shows the duration of each activity. This chart is
important to make plan and schedule projects. It help the researcher to assess that how long the
project should take, monitor the resources needed and make plan according to the project.
Work break down structure is a method of organising and completing work in a project. It
is a key project deliverable that organise team's work into manageable sections. It important and
essential tool for the project because it describes and organises the work required (Betz and et.
al., 2015). It is beneficial to facilitate the fast improvement of a program by assign try estimates
to special sections of the work break down structure.

TASK 2
Introductuion
Literature review is an narrative review which is an scholarly article and containing
knowledge and information to reach at desirable outcomes. (Chkanikova and Mont, 2015). In
research, it is important and necessary to place each work in the context of its contribution to
understanding and monitoring the research problem being suited. Fro example, in the research of
Waitrose, it is necessary to point the way in fulfilling a need for additional research.
Literature Review
To determine the impact of globalization on food retail
According to Victoria Duff, retailing is one of the area that remains primarily local is
grocery stores and globalization advances the retailers interest or the market place provides
retailers the new scope of buying functions. Globalization connects the world's whole markets. In
US consumer has become more health conscious and get knowledge and information of ethnic
foods. For example, Waitrose is the six largest food retailer and covered huge marketplace all
over the world. It is opening stores in various locations to provide good and ethnic food products
and in order to reverse falling profit. Waitrose provide an effective source which is private label
for supermarkets to seek or attract expatriate shoppers in several nations..
To collect and analyse secondary and primary data reflecting to benefits of globalization on
Waitrose
According to Nancy Chisholm, globalization encourages producers and consumers to
benefit from deeper division of workers and economies of scale. Cause of globalization the firm
create or provide awareness about its products worldwide (Costinot and Rodríguez-Clare, 2014).
In Wairtrose, with the help of globalization, the organisation operate its business in a global
economy where businesses and consumers know no boundaries. It enhanced consciousness

among customers of challenges from climate happening and financial condition or income
status. It generate several ways for expanding the business of the company and earn profit or
increase productivity.
To present the clockwise effect of globalization at Waitrose
According to Nicolas A. Pologeorgis, Globalization create or develop the different ways
for the food retail business of Waitrose. To find out or getting opportunities in international
sourcing, manufacturing and others, it is required for the retailers that they increase flexibility
(Crane, Kawashima and Kawasaki, 2016). The process of globalization provides golden
opportunities for Waitrose to expand its business in different countries or various markets. With
this, it attract number of consumers by providing several food products according to the
consumers needs and demands. This create clockwise impact in the economic condition of the
company and increase the productivity also.
To investigate the positive economic and cultural influence on the online operations of
Waitrose
According to Christain Annesley, Waitrose is known as a leading supermarket in The UK
with a strong following of loyal consumers because it provide various products according to its
different consumer's need and wants. This create positive impact on the economic and cultural
influence on the online operations of Waitrose. This firm operate its business global level and
produces products according to the culture of its consumers and provide satisfaction to their
desires. It make increment or development in its economic condition. This organisation has some
particular dynamics and concentration of its 350 plus stores in the south east of England which
create the positive economic and cultural influence on the online operations of Waitrose.
TASK 3
Research Approaches
It can be a procedure, process and plan that include some stages of broad assumptions to
explored or detailed method for gather data, analyse and explanation. For example, in this
research project, it is necessary to make plan so that the researcher can easily complete its
research (Hirsch and Schiefer, 2016). In context of this research, it can be a plan that span the all
the steps by which data can be collect, analyse and interpret. There are two types of research
approaches such as:

Deductive Approach- It is an approach which can be explained by the means of hypotheses.
This approach is based on deductive logic, logical deduction from one or more authorities to
comply with a logically confident judgement. It works from the more general to the more
specific and based on theory, statement and hypothesis works.
Inductive Approach- This approach also known as inductive reasoning which is based on
observation. It involves the search for pattern from observation and development of explantation
theories which are related to hypothesis (Hirst, Thompson and Bromley, 2015). It is use by the
researcher because it is a method of reasoning in which the premisses are viewed as supplying
supplying and some information and evidence is based on truth.
Methodologies
Research methodology is a process that is used by the researcher to collect data and
information for the purpose of completing the research and getting objective of it. It include
publication research, surveys, interviews and other various research techniques that can be
availed through the research to collet and collecting substance related to the investigating. The
types of research methodologies are as respective:
Qualitative research- this is a research method by observation to gather or collect data
and information. By using it, the researcher get non numeric data in form of definitions,
characteristics, concepts, symbols and others. In this methodology, substance is gather on the
basis of attribute that accent by examine mental representation of group. In this research project,
the research follow qualitative research to gather and collect data or information to achieve the
objective of this research.
Quantitative research- this is a method which I use through researcher for gather numerical
information or data to take appropriate decisions in terms of completing research or attain the
objective of research. By using this research, the researcher can gather appropriate numeric data
and do systematic empirical investigation of observable phenomenon with the help of statistical,
mathematical or computational techniques.
Primary research- It is a research method which is used by the researcher to collect
information related to a particular and specific issues and problem within business of the
organisation. It include survey, questionnaire and others method to gather data (Inglis and
Gimlin, 2015). With the help of primary research, the researcher can get accurate and reliable
6

information but need more time and cost. In this research, the researcher get pure and first hand
data or information which will not be used by anyone. In this research, the researcher follow
primary research to collect data because with the help of it, they can get pure information to
complete their research.
Secondary research- It mention about aggregation which is collect and gather by
individual other than the who avail it . It include scientific report which provide on social media,
internet and others (Najam, Runnalls and Halle, 2016). Under this research, the information are
gathered by government departments, organisational records and data that already collected by
others for other research purpose.
a) Sampling
It is a plan and procedure that is used by the researcher in applied mathematics analysis in
which a planned definite quantity of sight are taken from a larger people. In research, the
researcher use it in questionnaire for identifying potential respondents. It is used by individual to
manipulate, choice and examine a typical subset of collection points to denote practice. There
are two types of sampling, they are as following:
Random sampling- It is a portion or part of sampling tool with in every sample has equal
probability of being chosen. It can be a method of selecting a sample from a statistical population
in such a way in which each sample have possibility of being selected. There are four types of
this sampling, such as :
Simple random sampling- In this sampling, in each case in the population being sampled
has an equal chance to be selected. It is a method which can be known as equal sampling
method.
Systematic sampling- It is a type of probability sampling in which sample members from
a large population are selected accordingly to a random starting point but there is fixed periodic
interval.
Stratified random sampling- it is method of sampling which involves the division of a
population into smaller groups which is known as strata.
Cluster random sampling- In this sample distribution methodology, the research
bifurcate the grouping into different groups which titled cluster. Then a simple random sample of
cluster i marketing communication strategy s selected from the population.
7
Document Page
Non-random sampling- It is a tool and techniques of sampling within samples are collected in
an effective manner that does not provide equal cahnce to all persons to be selected (Rodrik,
2018). This sampling is not a product of a randomized selection process.
b) Data analysis
It is a activity of scrutinise, analysing, purifying, transforming and moulding collection
with the subjective of discovering helpful collection, conclusion and encouraging judgement
making. In it, the researcher collect data through qualitative and quantitative research method in
which they used interviews, survey, questionnaires and observation method of data collecting
(Smith, 2018). With it, they gather information related to the research and use it in completing
the research project.
c) Cost, access and ethical considerations
Research cost- It refers to the amount and fund that is incurred to complete the research or
gathering data by using different sources such as email, internet and others. For this researcher
prepare a budget because the individual use various source in which they invest cost to collect
data and information. In this research, the researcher need £250 to collect data for the research.
Research Ethics- It is a principle that were utilised include informed consent, anonymity and
confidentiality. The research used primary research method to collet and gather information and
in which, they use questionnaire to collect information. So it is necessary to maintain limit of
security so that the personal information of any respondent did not be leak. It is also important
for the researcher that during the time of asking questions, they did not hurt the feeling of any
respondent during the time of collecting data.
Research reliability- It is based on the execution of the test instrument which is the survey
questionnaire. Basically it means that the researcher collect and gather reliable or needed data
from its respondents and the information which is collect by the individual is correct or right.
The questionnaires also considered for validity. In order to minimize the problems and issues, it
is necessary to get positive response fro respondents and get right information.
TASK 4
Data Collection
It is a activity of assembly data and measurement data on variables of involvement. In
this research project, it can be a method or tool by which the researcher collect data and

information to attain the objective of the research which is impact of globalisation on food retail.
It is a systematic approach to gather and measure information from a variety of sources (Stiglitz,
2017). There are various methods that can be use by the researcher to collect data such as
qualitative, quantitative, primary and secondary in which they can use email, SMS, phone-calls,
interviews, survey, questionnaire and others for data collection. In this research project, the
researcher use questionnaire for collect and gather data or information.
Questionnaire is a research tool and technique in which there are figure of questions for
the goal for collecting information from respondents (Stromquist and Monkman, 2014). It can
