Gold-Cinema System Analysis Report: SDLC, WBS, PERT, Investment

Introduction
The ticket office, Gold-Cinema is planning to evolve their ticket booking system to an
online-based booking system. It will help them to keep track of their productions, seat
availability, customers booking the seats and performance that takes place daily. On
implementing the system, necessary information like the type of production (play, movie or
concert), number of tickets sold and on which date a selective performance took place can be
stored. Similarly, these stored data can be easily searched at any point of time. The following
report will discuss about the life cycle of the Gold-Cinema system development along with its
work breakdown structure (a hierarchical layout of the work that will be implemented by the
project team in order to develop the final system) (Siami-Irdemoosa, Dindarloo and
Sharifzadeh 2015). It will also contain pert chart based on the system’s WBS (Work
Breakdown Structure), five-year investment evaluation of the online system and Use Case
diagram of the same.
Discussion
System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
A System Development Life Cycle mainly comprises six core processes in order to
develop a system that will meet the customer requirement. To develop the Gold Cinema
project, the same development process can be used (Isaias and Issa 2015). The process are
- Planning Phase
- System Analysis Phase
- System Designing Phase
- Development and Implementation
- Testing of the Developed System
- Deployment and Maintenance of the System

Planning Phase
The planning phase is one of the most important steps for developing a successful
system. Without a proper plan, computing the strength and weakness of a project has no
meaning to it. In this phase, one must decide what they want to develop and what features
they want to implement into the system. These can be done by:
- determining the main aim of the system, what problems the system will solve and the
resource needed to develop the system (resource can vary from monetary based to that
of the people based)
- considering different constraints and preparing different alternative solutions; in case
some problem might rise in later stages of the system development
reviewing what specific features the system will provide that will benefit both the system
admin along with the end users (Ahmed 2015).
For the current case study, the main aim is to develop a system that will keep track of
their renowned customers and give a notification of any upcoming-booked event. In case any
customer face any difficulty while registering in the system or booking a ticket through the
system, there will always be a dedicated support team of advisors who will help the
customers at any point of time.
System Analysis Phase
The end-users (like the facilities that the customers of the system will get as per their
expectation and how the system will perform regarding those expectations) are finalized and
noted in a documented layout. In other words, the system functionality is determined about
exactly which system ideation will be performed by which part of the system, resulting in

feasibility of the system in economical, organizational, social and technological aspects
(Egwoh and Nonyelum 2017). In Gold-Cinema case study, the online system will let the
customers observe seat availability and book tickets for any available seats for any particular
performance. In case they (the customers) face any problem, they will receive advisor help at
any point of time. To make this facility available, the system needs to store the customer
details online to track these problems along with the ticket booking and availability of the
seats. By doing these, the system analysis will be complete about what tasks needs be
performed and the details are noted accordingly to be utilized in the design phase.
System Designing Phase
Once the system analysis is complete, the designing phase takes over. Here the basic
structure of the system is chalked out. It is done by defining the elements of the system, its
components, different working modules, security levels of the system, its various interfaces
and the type of data that gets stored in the system (Mesfin 2015).
Initially, a normal system design can be done by using pen-paper based process to get
a clear idea about the functioning and interfacing of the basic system. Later on, the initial
design is expanded by detailing the task with proper documentation. By using this step, any
flaws can be easily spotted and removed; as a result, it will fully meet both the technical and
functional requirement of the whole system (Mustaquim and Nyström 2015).
In Gold-Cinema System, initially a new customer needs to create a new account in
order to book system for the first time as a result s/he needs to enter his/her details like first
name, last name, address of the residence, city name, zip code, email address and mobile
number. For this purpose a well designed registration page is required. On successful
registration, the customer needs to login resulting a requirement for login page. During these
processes if the customer faces any problem they can go to the support page. The ongoing

performances are categorized based on the type and ultimately the customer can book a ticket
if seats are available. Then they are redirected for payment completion. On successful
payment, a confirmation message is displayed with a virtual ticket containing seat details.
One page is required for each of these tasks. With these the layout based design is complete.
To keep the personal details of the customer and their transaction related details safe, the
connections of the system needs to be encrypted properly during the data transmissions to
avoid any type of data confidentiality leakage (Pitchai, Jayashri and Raja 2016). These falls
under technological infrastructure based design. The customer side design is now complete.
For the admin side system, there can be admin login page and a main page from which any
personal with admin access can retrieve production details based on type (play, movie or
concert), total number of sold tickets, performance date and any customer related details that
might require on special cases. With complete designing and proper documentation of these,
the designing phase ends and proceeds to the development and implementation stage.
Development and Implementation
The development phase is initiated once a complete understanding of the entire
system requirement is done. Here, the actual construction of the system is done based on the
design of the planned system. The construction includes coding of the system parts and
processes with recording of the data in the back end of the whole working structure. It also
includes secure connectivity implementation of data transfer between the front and the back-
end. After all the designed ideas are developed, the implementation stage comes in. Here, the
developed system drives through an experimental revision to make sure that all the system
facilities are functioning properly. If any abnormalities are found, then they are corrected and
sent to the testing stage (Ahmar, Rusli and Rahman 2017).

The Gold-Cinema System is developed with codes. The developed system comprises
the customer registration page, customer login page, support page, performance category
page, performance details page (dynamic in nature because each performance will have
different details in them), payment success/failure page and for the admin access, it has the
login page and the main page to search the details. In the back-end side, php will be used to
complete the scripting part of the database and front-end connection (Akinyede, Balogun and
Iwasokun 2017).
Testing of the Developed System –
Once the development of the system is done, it enters the testing stage. It is mainly
done by entering every type of possible inputs and checking for any loopholes in the
developed system code. It mainly assesses the system for any types of errors; if found any,
the same are documented. The specialized coding personnel of the project development team
mainly do testing at this stage. Upon finding inaccuracies (bugs) in the code, the bugs are
noted and the codes are revised accordingly (Maheshwari and Prasanna 2016).
In the Gold-Cinema System, the initial testing will be done on every page testing and
validations. Some of the validations can be mobile number validation, email address
validation and zip code validation. The testing in all the pages are very crucial along with
data transmission from the front-end to the online database of the system to maintain data
integrity. On finding and revising any bugged part of the system, deployment stage comes
next.
Deployment and Maintenance of the System
The system deployment for the initial users are done primarily. Upon finding any type
of system-lag or similar issue reports from the users, maintenance are done from time to time.
A maintenance is normally done periodically to make it certain that the system does not get

obsolete from the current ongoing similar systems. It also gives out latest updates with
various specific features. The features solely depends on the system organization (Kaur,
Singh and Singh 2015).
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
The Work Breakdown Structure for the Gold-Cinema System implementation is as
follows (Aryaningrum et al. 2018):

Following the above WBS structure, the complete Gold-Cinema System can be
deployed in 57 days. The whole process is divided into six phases. The first phase starts with
planning phase and takes a total time of 6 days to complete. In planning phase, ideation
proposal is accepted for two days, the proposed ideas are sorted for another three days and
finally the chosen ideas are noted for one day. Next, comes the analysis phase. It has sub
phases requirement analysis, implementation analysis and summarizing all the analysis; these
are done in two, five and one days respectively. The design phase consists of front-end
design, infrastructure design and summarizing all the designs. It takes four, three and one
days respectively. In development phase, all the finalized designs are coded in front-end,

back-end and secured interaction infrastructure design. The time taken for each of them are
six, eight and five days respectively. The testing stage consists of Unit testing, Integration
testing, overall system testing and acceptance testing and unit testing takes two days; the
remaining sub phases takes two days each. In the end, the deployment and maintenance phase
has alpha release and feedback-maintenance stage; these takes two and five days respectively.
Upon completing all these stages, the Gold-Cinema System can be released for public use.

Use-case diagram
A use case diagram is the initial form of a developing system. It explains the behavior
of a system and summarizes the relationship an end-user and the function of the system
(Singh, Sharma and Saxena 2016). However, it does not maintains any order of interaction
between a user and the system. The following use case diagram details about the user- system
interaction of the Gold-Cinema Case Study (Khurana, Chhillar and Chhillar 2016). The users
of the use case varies from, customer to admin and advisors.

From the above use case diagram, it can be said that the customer can register into
the Gold- Cinema System. Upon registering, they can then login into the system, view
Performance details, check seat availability, book ticket, take support from the advisors and
finally log out of the system. The Advisors can log into the system and provide support to any
customers facing difficulty in system related process. The Admin can log into the system,
view performance details and sold ticket details at the same time (Chaudhary, Chaudhary and
Khatoon 2015).
Summary
In the end, it can be concluded that the evolution of the Gold-Cinema booking system
can be properly developed by following the System Development Life Cycle. In the planning
phase all the system implementation based tasks are done. The system performance is
analyzed in the analysis phase. In designing phase, proper design of the system is finalized
and finally in the development and implementation phase the designed system is developed
properly. Testing of the developed system is done next, later of fixing all the system bugs, the
system gets its initial launch; periodically, the deployed system gets its upgrades and
maintenance. The Work Breakdown Structure and the PERT chart details the total structure
of the system in detailed tabular format. The investment evaluation table specifies about all
the returns on the investment done for next five years from the time of system deployment.
The Use Case Diagram of the system details about all actors and their interactions with the
Gold- Cinema System.
