INTRODUCTION
Ethics refers to concept and basic principles of human being which has assist in
completing work in appropriate manner. There is important role of academic and professional
skills through which individuals can perform their roles and responsibilities in better and
effective manner. In professional sector, there is requirement of some skills through which they
can perform actions in better and effective manner. These days, people want up to the mark
services through which they can get better services through which they are able to show
themselves in front of others (Chittum and Bryant, 2014). Academic skills are characteristic in
individual such as writing skills, good presentation, etc. This is the best way through which they
can perform their actions in better and effective manner. So in professional these skills are
important. This assist in communicating with consumers and clients.
In this report, there is discussion about case study of Gosport War Memorial Hospital
located at England UK. In this hospital, there is death case of different individuals and after some
time some other individuals face same issue. So in this case individuals thought that there is
issue in medication process. So in order to deal with this case some stakeholders take actions
against it. But they face negative outcome from other parties. So there is negativity in brand
image of Gosport War Memorial Hospital. In this report, there is discussion about different
issues arise at Gosport War Memorial Hospital and parties associated with it. Apart from this
there are some recommendations provided in order to resolve with issues (Drew, 2018).
ANALYSIS
In hospitals there is requirement of different academic and professional skills through
which they can provide better services to consumers. There are different individuals suffering
from various problems such as physical impairment, mental disorder, etc. In health and social
organisations, there is demand of proper services by patient to get improvement in their health.
As per case study of Gosport War Memorial Hospital, there is issue in services offered to
consumers. There are many people who dead because of carelessness of consumers. There are
different unethical behaviour which affects performance of Gosport War Memorial Hospital
negatively. Some unethical behaviour are as under-
Lack of medication consultancy- At Gosport War Memorial Hospital, there is no
medication consultancy. There are many individuals having different issue related to health, so

When no proper medication is possible, then installation of opioids drugs in body of patient
which leads to death of many patients. This creates major problems in society and negatively

Nursing malpractices- There are mal practices by nursing department as well because
people are not able to understand what has to be done and they are not performing actions in
better and effective manner. This leads to mis behave with patients and their attendants. When
nursing does not give proper medicines, then this affects health of patients and there is no
improvement. This is the unethical issue due to which case of Gosport War Memorial Hospital is
not performing well (Goldingay and et. al., 2014).
Mis use of power and position- Top level management of Gosport War Memorial
Hospital is misusing power of position. There are different individuals working in Gosport War
Memorial Hospital to completing task in industry. People misuse their position by torture their
subordinates. If an individual wants to work in ethical manner then due to pressure from
supervisor they are not able to do and this affects performance of whole association. People at
top level management have power to make decisions, so they force others to perform activities in

for their dear ones. There is participation of different stakeholders in related case study. Some
are discussed as under-
Managers- Managers are the individuals who mange all the operations of Gosport War
Memorial Hospital. They are the people associated at top level management who are involved in
decision making of association. Managers have to frame policies through which they can
communicate to workers regarding change in working style (Novakovich, Miah, and Shaw,
2017). At Gosport War Memorial Hospital, there are different managers working and performing

Regulators- There are some regulators which are working with health and social care
organisations through which they can work in better and ethical manner (Mercader-Trejo and et.
al., 2016). There are different laws and regulations which has to be followed by managers of
Gosport War Memorial Hospital which makes their working appropriate manner. But as per case
study, there is no proper regulators due yo which this scandal happens. There is negative impact
on regulators of health and social organisation. People will not trust regulators of other
organisation as well. Regulators have to focus on working style and policies of consumers. It is
crucial and relevant to understand what has to be done through which they can work in better and
appropriate manner. Parties of regulatory body will not disclose their working style in front of
others, so they can keep their working confidential. Hence due to ethical behaviour, regulator
bodies have to perform actions with more caution and in case of any issue investigation has to be
done.
Shareholders- Shareholders are the people who have invested in capital of organisation.
When there is negative impact on brand image of Gosport War Memorial Hospital, then
shareholders withdraw their money. People of other health and social organisations also affects

with it and they are not able to understand what has to be done. Shareholders feels that share
price of Gosport War Memorial Hospital goes down and they withdraw their money (Moffett and
Mill, 2014). Due to negative publicity of hospital people will not invest money again. There are
some shareholders who buy back their shares in loss and they are not able to recover their
money. Hence this affects brand image of organisation and people does not want to continue
with Gosport War Memorial Hospital. There is important role of shareholders because they are
the sources of external funds and have right over decision making of Gosport War Memorial
Hospital. There is annual meeting with shareholders who are the part of hospital in which they
are told about working style of association, changes in accounting policies, etc. So shareholders
will never rely on working of health and social organisation (Moore and Morton, 2017).
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it is clear that there are different types of operations which
are specific and relevant in context of understanding changes which are taking place in external
market. It is crucial and important to understand policies which has to be followed in case of
understanding negative case at health and social care. There are different unethical practices such
as lack of medication consultancy, nursing malpractices, mis use of power and position-, etc. due
to organisational performance gets affected. There are many parties associated with health and
care organisation such as consumers, regulators, etc. So they get negatively affected with
working style. In order to analyse changes which are taking place in external market,
management have to take corrective actions through which unethical activities gets reduces. In
current market, there is requirement of proper work of health related organisation because people
have faith and loyalty. In order to reduce possibilities of such cases, managers must hire
personnel for the purpose of audit. There must be proper training and job rotation of workers
through which ethical check of operations is possible.
RECOMMENDATIONS
As per the case stated above there were deaths of 100s of patients in Gosport War
Memorial Hospital due to prescription of opioids drug as painkiller to elderly people without any
medical justification. Some recommendation to deal with such issues are as follows:

 Gosport War Memorial Hospital must include local government so that powerful and
vigorous actions should be taken for concern raised. It must address problem properly so
that appropriate investigation can be followed up to build name of hospital again in city.
 Manager must create fair environment that encourages issue raising and should bother
less about blame fixing. It will clear its image of hiding accidents for sake of reputation.
 Hospital managers must ensure mechanism that ensure quality standard as main priority
to be more specific about drugs and prescription. It will ensure less malpractices in
services and can take corrective actions when needed to ensure goodwill.
 It must involve outside committee like Coronial Service so that mortality rate, quality
standards and usage of particular drugs can be checked on regular basis to avoid any such
cases again. There is improvement in brand image of hospital because there is
involvement of external legal parties.
 Hospital Managers must encourage effective communication channel, proper supervision,
accountability at lower and managerial level. It will ensure poor processes or patient care
related problem to be solve immediately to build strong relationships. When there is
proper communication, so internal as well as external parties have complete knowledge
about working operations and hence people are aware about about brand name of Gosport
War Memorial Hospital.
 Top management must conduct regular audits and surveys to ensure proper functioning of
personnel. This will create authenticate reports to manage, address and take corrective
actions. Data can be made public so that customer themselves can be assure of hospital
functioning.
 Managers must plan training sessions for doctors and nurses to manage their elder
patient effectively, efficiently on regular basis. Change in behavior will regain trust of
other customers in the hospital again.
