Background
The study is geared towards examining some of the factors that affect the GPA of third-
year students. Some of these factors are the number of hours spent on social events and
outings by students and the frequency of revising.
Topic: What are the effects of hours spent on social events/outings and frequency of revising
study materials on GPA.
A sample of 25 students will be involved in the study. This will be done by issuing
questionnaires to the selected sample. The three variables to collect data on are;
a. GPA
b. Hours spent on social events and outings
c. Frequency of revising study materials.
The Dependent variable is GPA
The independent variable (1) Hours spent on social events and outings
The independent variable (2) - Frequency of revising study materials.
Theory
Grade Point Average (GPA) displays the total GPA that the students had after the end
of the second year. According to Alfayez,Saud and Carline (231) students that did not use

participate is social event and outing for prolonged periods were found to have higher GPA
score compared to the students who spend more time in outings. Notably, Al Shawwa, Lana,
et al. (16) realized that students that revised their study at least once had higher GPAs
compared to them that never revise.
The variable “Hours spent on social events and outings “measures the hours spent on other
secondary activities apart from studies. Some students go for outings and social events
frequently hence having less time to study. This variable is therefore presumed to have a
negative relationship with GPA (Ferguson, Eamonn, David and Madeley,952)
The variable frequency of revision is presumed to have a positive relationship with GPA. The
more time students revise, there is a high likelihood to have a higher GPA (De Grave,
Willem, Schmidt, and Henny, 33)
Research Question:
Is there a relationship between GPA, frequency of revising and Hours spent on social events
and outings?
