INTRODUCTION
Business performs various activities that need to be carried out by various functions of the
organisation. Such functions of the organisation can be classified as core functions and support
function on the basis of the nature of the business (Cagle, Yılmaz and Doğru, 2020). Different
departments perform various functions with the common goal of achieving the overall
organisational objective. For this report Tesco Plc is taken into consideration which is a UK
based retailer operating across nations (Tescoplc. 2020. ). This report discusses the importance
of various functions that work together so that the organisational goals can be achieved. Also it
ensures that all the resources of the organisation are achieved efficiently.
MAIN BODY
For the businesses it is important to have various skills with the help of which they can
ensure success of their business. The businesses need to identify such core skills that facilitate
them to execute their role and to perform day to day operation effectively (Osman, 2017). The
business classifies their operations in different functions with the aim of achieving expertise so
that efficiency and effectiveness in all the activities can be achieved. Similarly, TESCO has
classified their business activities in different functions as per their operations
. Various department of TESCO that are crucial for their success is:
Marketing Function: Marketing function of the TESCO is so very crucial for them as they
determine the needs and wants of the customers that keeps on changing with change in their taste
and preference (The Role of Marketing, 2019). Also they promote the goods and services of the
company through advertisements of their offers outside their stores and through newsletters etc.
Operations Function: In operations functions of TESCO, all the activities of the
organisation related to the clerical work such as mail handling, documentation for the orders etc.,
cleaning and maintenance of the stores, security of the stores and many more are included. With
the help of these activities it is ensures that services to the customers are better and management
of the organisation is effective (Santos, Mota and Baptista, 2018).
Production Function: The aim of TESCO is to offer cheaper products in the market due to
which it is ensures that they do mass production with which per unit cost of the products can be
reduced. Also they production department ensures the quality of the products that is been offered
in the market so that the satisfaction level of the customer can be managed ( Tesco to simplify
operational structures, 2018 ).

Human Resource Function: The HR function of TESCO facilitates them with various
competent staff that has potential of meeting up with various requirements of the organisation.
They ensure the well being of the workforce so that the employees can be kept motivated. Along
with various trainings are conducted with the help of which they get sufficient knowledge of
their products and handling customers. This helps the employees in managing the customers and
resolving their issues in an efficient manner (Small Business Development Corporation, 2020.)
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above report that for the organisation it is important to determine
various functions as per the nature of the business. This facilitates them to improve efficiency of
