INTRODUCTION
Business function is refers to set of all activities that are perform by the different
departments which is initiated by the events, transforming information, materials, business
commitments etc. Every department perform their particular roles and duties in order to achieve
the desired goals and objectives of the organisation. The following report is based on TESCO
that is multinational retailing organisation with having headquartered in UK. The report below
consist of roles of business functions and its importance.
MAIN BODY
Role of different business functions
Role of marketing: Marketing is the process of delivering goods and services in the hand
of the customers with a view to satisfying them and to fulfil the need and wants of the consumers
(Albertoni, Elia and Piscitello, 2017). This includes the decision related that is taken by Tesco to
the branding and packaging of the product, physical distribution, promotion of the product and
service, and setting up the ethical pricing. They also put their expanses in build a customer
relationship in order to retain them as long as possible.
Role of finance: This includes managing, collecting and procuring fund. This department
of Tesco is liable for the three main decisions investments decision, financial decision and
dividend decision. their responsibility is to maintain the relationship with the major institution
and shareholders and take care about the share buybacks, borrowings and risk management.
Role of human resource: This departments of Tesco deals with the human side of the
business. This includes task related to the planning, recruiting, selection, controlling and
development of the human resource of the organisation. HR function is to obtain and maintain
capable and effective workforce, motivates employees to contribute their maximum in order to
attain the organisational goals.
Role of operations and production: It is the important function within Tesco that is
related to the manufacturing of goods and services by implementing optimum raw material
(Macchi, Savino and Roda, 2020). This function involves various activities like product
planning, procurement and storage of raw material, delegation of authority and responsibility and
quality control etc. that support the optimum level of production within the given resources.

organisational goals. But the relationship between these functions plays a vital role in the success
of the organisation. To run the all department of the business man power is the basic essential
element that will be provided by human resource department. Finance department has a link with
marketing, production and other departments as it facilitates the finance in order to perform
activities in a effective manner (Schonberger, 2020). Whereas, marketing helps in to promote the
product and the brand image which is needed by the human resource, finance and production
department in order to meet their targets.
CONCLUSIONS
from the above analysis it has been concluded that business function plays a very important in
the functioning and success of the business and they are also interconnected with each other to
perform their roles and responsibilities in a effective manner. Coordination between the
departments is a important aspect in balancing the functioning of the business in order to
maintain the smooth running of the operations and to achieve the desired goals by increasing
efficiency, profitability and productivity.
