Grants Application Abstract - Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth

Mr. Achim Steiner, Third Way organization is a community based organization based in
Brisbane South East Queensland of Australia is seeking for a grant to start and run an
empowerment and capacity building program for vulnerable women and youth in the rural areas.
The organization intends to do capacity building to the target group thus enabling them
generate income by joining the different sectors of economy particularly farming and
industrialization. The major objective is to empower economically vulnerable youth and women
in the rural parts of the district.
The organization chooses to apply grants from UNDP specifically since the objective
enables the achievement of most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program
aims at reducing poverty level, addressing zero hunger, considering gender equality, decent work
and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, and responsible consumption and
production. These are some of the UNDP objectives and partnering with them can be a milestone
to their achievement. The unemployment will go down as people are self employed.
Expected outcomes of the project are issues related to the economic status in the society
because the program is meant to empower the target population economically. Improved
economic status of a society would mean a better lifestyle through poverty eradication and zero
hunger because a household will be spending more than a dollar a day in foodstuffs. Gender
superiority will be minimized as the women will take part in any economic activities suitable to
them, industrial growth and recycling of waste, inventions and innovations will be given
attention and space for adoption and thus improved infrastructure. Increased responsible
consumption will be experienced due to increased purchasing power. Good health and well-

being is an expected outcome as the society will afford improved health care. Better housing will
also be witnessed and unemployment and drug abuse will be a passed issue in the economy.
The project also has unexpected outcomes as it will have an impact on weather changes,
environmental degradation, deforestation and pollution and economic inflation.
In conclusion the project has a direct impact to the economic life of residents from
Brisbane as the eye opener program will help in widening their thoughts on alternative options of
employment and generating more incomes. Government experts, political class and
administrative units are involved in the roll out to make the locals take up the project. Loan
lending organizations are major partners so as to offer funds to the locals after the empowerment
process.
