INTRODUCTION
Business information systems is defined as the information systems where most of the business
operations like finance, human resource, marketing, production and many other are performed on
the technical basis that is by installing the information system according to the business. Green
computing is defined as the usage of the computing devices either software or hardware or
networking devices in an environmentally sustainable manner. Adoption of such information
systems helps the environment and an organization as well to work in a sustainable way for the
welfare of both the environment and the company as well (Bhattacherjee, Das, Khatua and Roy,
2019). The following discussions are made on the features of green computing, advantages and
disadvantages of green computing, overview of the organization chosen, benefits to the
environment of using green computing, concept of reusing and recycling, contribution to the

There is a low usage of those elements which are harmful for the environment and which
makes the environmental pollution and affect the human beings living there globally. Therefore,
it saves the environment from hazardous gases to emit in an environment.
Efficiency in energy
If the green technology is used in the world then it can become more easy to save the heat
and energy because it is one of the most advantageous feature of green computing that it is
efficient in energy consumption. Therefore, there is an efficiency in the energy (Bisoyi and Das,
2018).
Usage of renewable materials
Green computing is helping the world in making the use of renewable resources which
are environment friendly for the people who are living in this world and can save the
environment from damaging if green technology is used.
Product life is longer

These are considered as the two pillars green computing because these are the processes
which helps in the longer usage of a product with less wastages in an organization.
Task 2
Organisational opportunities and challenges of green computing
Opportunities
Cost effective
It can be considered as the one of the great opportunity for an organization because at the
time of formation of any company, first thought in the mid is that how they can spend less by
using maximum resources so they can use green technology in order to achieve such cost
effectiveness (Hasan, Mohammed, Ameedeen and Khalaf, 2018).
Low energy consumption
It is also the one of the good opportunities for the firm because in an organization, energy
is the most used asset or it can be said that the most of the expenses arises from the consumption
from the energy so it is important to take measure in order to reduce it so the use of green
technology can be helpful in such cases.
Efficient utilization of resources
Green computing has the power of utilization f resources very efficiently and every
organization’s goal is to achieve such kind of operative environment where they can get the low
expense and maximum resources so this can be attained by the green technology.
Low wastage of electronics
Every organization must be having the technical things because these are important in
every business function use for effectiveness in operations so there can be the low waste of such
technical things if green technology is adopted by the firm because it helps the company in
lowering the waste of an organization (Kern, 2018).
Low producing of heat
Generation of heat produced in an organization depends on what type of firm is and for
what purpose they are operating their business in the market. If the purpose is related to the
emissions of heat then they must use the green technology because it helps to reduce such
emissions in a company.

If company uses the green computing it it’s business operations in day to day life then it
can also be visible to the external environment and they appreciates such organizations who tries
to be an environmental friendly for the sake of the world and for their business itself.
Challenges
Low awareness
Green technology is new technology and not everyone knows about it that it also exist in
the world for the organization for the purpose to save the environment. So because of low
awareness, it is of minimal usage in the companies (Kumar, Kaiwartya and Abdullah, 2017).
Privacy issues
Every technology needs the security and privacy, because without privacy they cannot be
operated because there is a chances of leaking the data and information of the companies which
is stored so therefore high privacy is required in order to achieve this technology.
Expensive
It has the initial expenses of using and maintenance cost because every technology either
it’s a normal or green, maintenance is required for them to work properly for the company
otherwise it can create the problems in an operations of the firm.
Lack in green raw materials
Although it is already discussed above that there is a lack of awareness of such green
computing or technology, therefore the production of it’s raw materials are low because not
everyone uses such technology it lacks in this field (Marquetti, Rodrigues and Desai, 2018).
Difficult to manage
Green computing needs high knowledge to operate and high skilled people who have the
good knowledge about operating such technology. If they are not found then it can be difficult to
manage such technology in an organization.
Updating technology
Now a days technology is upgrading day by day, every day new innovation are
developing in the technology so the green computing in an organization needs to be updated
from time to time other it can create the problem in security or privacy issues and even corrupt
all the information of the business.

It is the important technology used in the computer system now days. Smart fan controls
the energy consumption used by the computer system and it can also be considered as the part of
the green computing which us specially designed to regulate the energy and great generation
activities through the computer systems thereby gaining the environment sustainability.
Scheduling the Wi-Fi
It is also the green computing feature that Wi-Fi is now can be scheduled to it’s limited
time duration so that the network and energy could not be wasted uselessly and it is used by most
of the companies as well and people are also having the good knowledge about it (Nwankwo,
Olayinka and Ukhurebor, 2020).
Proposals to address reuse of computing resources
There are different steps involved in the process of reusing of the computing
technologies. First is the identifying the technical devices that are to be reused otherwise some
devices are for the recycling process so it is important to recognise that what to be reused and
what to be recycled. After identification, it is essential for an organization to examine the parts of
the devices that are to be reused because without examining this, it can be difficult for the
employees in reusing such technical devices. Now comes the step of determining the area that
where it can be used and how efficiently it can work for the same or different work. And at last
the company can start reusing those technical devices again for their operations but it requires
the high knowledge of technical parts and high skilled person in hardware and software
efficiency which can perform such tasks in a more effective way for an organization.
Proposals to address recycling of computing resources
There are various steps involved in recycling of computing resources, it is important to
perform such activity because it directly connects with the environment sustainability which is
necessary to save the environment as well as the company from the unnecessary wastages from
the computing devices. First step is the collection, it states that it is essential to identify and
collect the unwanted resources of the computers which are now not in use by an organization. It
is necessary to recognise that what is important and what is not so that the recycling can be done
of the correct unwanted materials (Ojo, Raman and Downe, 2019). Second is sorting, which
states that it is important to rearrange the technical devices in a proper order so that at the time of

the energy consumption used by the computer system and it can also be considered as the part of
the green computing which us specially designed to regulate the energy and great generation
activities through the computer systems thereby gaining the environment sustainability.

recycling, no issues can be generated. Third is testing, which states that it is necessary to test the
technical device in order to examine that it is working or not or can be used for the reusing
process and if not found appropriate for reusing after testing then it has to be further go for the
recycling process. Fourth is disassembly, which states that the devices needs to be dissemble
manually before recycling s that the process can be continued effectively. Fifth is data
destruction, which states that the data is needed to be destructed because it cannot be used further
by anyone for any wrong purpose. Sixth is separation, which states that the now it is the time of
final recycling because separation of all the parts of the devices means it is ready for the
recycling activity.
Contribution of reuse and recycle in improvement of external factors
Social impacts
People are more conscious about their health now a days so the activity of reusing and
recycling the of the computing resources helps the world in maintaining the physical health of
the people and people also supports those organizations who take care of their health means no
producing any harmful substance (Saha, 2018).
Economic impacts
There is a great contribution of reusing and recycling of the computing resources because
it leads to the minimum wastages and maximum utilization of same resources many a times
which benefits the economy in increasing of the national income and gross domestic product
because of the using the same resources at an effective and efficient level.
Environmental impacts
It is the most important factor and the reason behind the concept of reusing and recycling
because if it is not done then the major harm can be on the environment because it causes the
emissions of the harmful gases and lots of pollution at the same which is difficult for the
environment to cope up with.
Technical impacts
It helps in upgrading the technology of the world by adopting the green technology
mainly the reusing and recycling methodologies thereby innovating the world with new more
ideas and strategies (Srivastava, Kumar, Singh and Mohan, 2018).

Three levels of strategy
This model states that how the company can establish and grow in a particular market
with the green technology adoption and how it can really develop it’s strategies of building up
it’s image, reputation and loyalty by the people. This model consist three levels which are,
corporate level strategy which states the goals, objectives, mission, vision and values of an
organization that they want to achieve in their life, green computing technology can be the goal
of the company because it is a cost effective process. Another level is business unit level strategy
which states that how an organization can gain it’s competitive advantage by accomplishing it’s
goals and objectives, competition in terms of green technology is high because everyone wants
to be sustainable in nature so they are focusing in adopting such green technology. Last level is
market level strategy which states the methodologies that how the company can grow, develop
and build it’s stability in the market to generate the more sales and revenues in order to achieve
the green computing technologies in an organization.
Porter’s generic strategy
It consist four strategies for the development of the business as whole including the green
computing. It enhances the business growth in sustainability of the environment. First one is cost
leadership which states that the company can either reduce the cost of production to increase the
profit margin or can either decrease the price to increase the market share. Second is
differentiation strategy which states the innovation in the existing product or creating the new
product with all unique features as compared to the competitors. Third is focus strategy which
states that the company needs to focus on the target market for their products and services they
are offering too their customers, this helps the company in gaining the proper stability in the
market. Fourth is differentiation focus which states that developing the new product for the

This model sates the stages of the processing of data and information internally in the
computing systems in an organization. It is consist three stages, that are, input which states that
the data which is entered through the input devices like keyboard, mouse, light pen and many
others must be qualitative because it decides the quality output of the of the data entered in the
initial stage. Second is processing which states that the entered data must be processed according
to the user’s instruction given and must be proper and accurate calculation according to the
user’s requirements, this operation is mainly done by the CPU that consist the control unit, ALU
and other parts of CPU. Third stage is the output that means the final result to the user and
mainly output devices are responsible for the same to display the results in front of the user like
monitor, speaker, printer, plotter and many more (Zheng, 2018).
Value chain model
This model states the various operations are performed in an organizations and how they
are performed. First is developing the firm’s infrastructure in various departments like finance,

user’s requirements, this operation is mainly done by the CPU that consist the control unit, ALU
and other parts of CPU. Third stage is the output that means the final result to the user and
mainly output devices are responsible for the same to display the results in front of the user like
monitor, speaker, printer, plotter and many more (Zheng, 2018).
Value chain model
This model states the various operations are performed in an organizations and how they
are performed. First is developing the firm’s infrastructure in various departments like finance,
marketing, human resource, information technology, research and development and many as per
the company’s requirements. It manages various functions relating to all such departments like
inbound logistics, procurement, outbound logistics, operations, marketing and sales and
servicing. This model consist mainly two types of activities, one is the support activities and the
another is primary activities. All the departments which are discussed comes under support
activities and all the functions which are discussed comes under the primary activities of an
organization.
